Development of Creative Design and Construction Methods of Bridge Piers using 3D Model (3차원 모델 기반의 미적 교각 설계 및 시공 기술 개발)

  • Bridge piers typically have circular or rectangular shapes without decorative design. Prefabrication for accelerated construction has been widely adopted in bridge structures. Cost for steel formwork is a main restriction of creative irregular shapes. 3D modelling techniques allow creative design of columns and 3D printing provides possibility to minimize the fabrication cost. In this paper, 3D design process of bridge piers was suggested by converting 2D picture into 3D decorative shape. Formwork design using 3D printed panels was also proposed and mock-up tests were conducted. Precast columns need accurate geometry control from fabrication to assembly. Laser scanning and geometry control devices were adopted. Through the digitalized process of design, fabrication and assembly, creative design of structures can be realized in reasonable cost range.

  • This paper describes prototype Virtual Reality Ship Simulator (VRSS) that we have recently developed next-generation training equipment based on the virtual reality (VR) technology. The inherent defects of conventional ship simulators are enormous costs and difficult system upgrade due to the system construction, such as large mock-up bridge system, wide visual presentations, In this paper, to cope with those problems, we explored VR technology that can give realistic environments in a virtual world. Then we constructed prototype VRSS system, which is, consists of PC-based human sensors, and Databases set having 3D object models and coefficients of Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs). 3D-WEBMASTER authoring tool was used as Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML). Using the VRSS system, we constructed Port an Passage Simulator for the harbor of INCHON in Korea, and Ship and Sea State Simulator for an arbitrary given sea environmental states by user. Through many simulation tests, we testified the efficiency of developed prototype VRSS by subject assessment with five participants. Then, we present results on the simulation experiments and conclude with discussion of evaluation results.

  • In the present study, we have developed high strength concrete which is adequate for the long span PC beam above 40 meters. We have selected the most adequate materials for high strength concrete through laboratory tests and in-situ mock-up applications. We verified and decided the best curing condition of high strength concrete, and suggests the optimum mix design of high strength concrete. In the future, we will verify the properties-fresh and hardened concrete- of high strength concrete and its serviceability, and also apply the high strength concrete to newly-constructed real bridge structure.

  • This paper presents a series of tests to produce the high quality concrete to be filled inside the steel tube columns. This concrete filled steel tube system requires not only the high strength, but also the high flowable concrete. Laboratory test has been performed to clarify the material characteristics and to produce the optimal mix design proportion. Full-scale site mock-up test has been then carried out to simulate the actual construction conditions including the production of concrete at the remicon batch plant, transportation to the construction site, proper workability and man-power required.

Mock-up Tests of Concrete Filled Steel Tubular Columns (콘크리트 충전 강관 기둥의 시공에 관한 연구)

  • Three concrete filled steel tubular columns with six inner diaphrams are constructed and tested under field conditions. The size and shape of three columns are exactly same. The cross section is $40\times40cm$, and the height is 9m. Each column is constructed with normal concrete, CFST concrete, and high flowing concrete, respectively. Concrete is pumped into bottom parts of steel tubular columns from a concrete pump on the ground. Test data indicate that the slump flow of the concrete place in the top of the column is lower than that of the concrete before pumping by about 10~20cm. Slump flow loss of high flowing concrete caused by pumping is high compared to the other concretes. Concrete pump pressure of high flowing concrete is somewhat higher than that of CFST concrete.

  • The structure of Tower Palace III Sports Center building was designed as concrete Filled Steel Tube(CFT) Column and the filled-in concrete was designed as high compressive strength of 500kgf/$m_2$. The self compacting concrete(SCC, non-vibrating concrete) with 65$\pm$5cm flow must be applied to this case for filling the CFT by injecting the concrete from the column bottom. Laboratory tests and pilot productions of batcher plant were performed for optimum mix design and the full scale Mock-Up test was performed to check the appicability of the construction method. As a result, we observed that good quality SCC and the pressure change of concrete pump normally used domestically. Based on these results, we have constructed 20-40m height CFT columns successfully.

  • 학술연구정보 서비스는 연구자의 연구 개발 과정에서 필수적으로 활용해야 하는 서비스이다. 그렇지만, 그 중요성에 비해 아직까지 학술연구정보 서비스에 대한 심도 깊은 사용성 평가가 제대로 이루어지고 있지 않다. 본 연구는 OntoFrame이라는 시맨틱 웹 기술 기반 학술연구정보 서비스 구현 과정에서 반복적인 사용성 평가를 수행함으로써 어떻게 서비스가 효용성과 사용성을 갖추어가는 지를 실증함으로써 사용성 평가의 중요성을 강조하고자 한다. 특히, 사용성 평가 목표에 따라 서비스 시안(Mock-up)을 대상으로 실시한 사용자 인터뷰 중심의 1차 사용성 평가와 서비스 프로토타입을 대상으로 실시한 학술연구 정보 서비스간 비교 평가 중심의 2차 사용성 평가를 상이하게 구성함으로써 사용성 관련 문제를 다양한 관점에서 도출할 수 있었다. 사용성 평가는 매 구현 단계마다 반복적으로 실시함으로써 본 학술연구정보 서비스의 사용성을 지속적으로 향상시킬 계획이다.

  • To overcome the limitation in relation to thermal insulator's selection and installation method that is suitable for exterior insulation and waterproof construction methods, a production basis of thermal insulators of which manufacturing knowhow is held by companies was ensured and future-oriented construction methods to adopt new materials were applied. Performance verification was conducted through performance and mock-up tests of thermal transmittance on the cross sections where the flexible insulators were applied based on the improved prototype and performance data were obtained. To overcome the biggest drawbacks (walking feeling and damage etc.) in the exterior insulation and waterproof construction method, inserting a protective layer between thermal insulator and water-proof layer was proposed, and polypropylene corrugated cardboards.

  • The trends of research for concrete in recent days are the high performance, high flow, ultra high strength and high durability. These are being researched with a construction company and a materials company. Anyone have to use the good quality sand, gravel, high quality chemical compound and silica fume for ultra high strength concrete as yet. This paper was researched with the domestic materials, not use the high price silica fume for the development 100MPa ultra high strength concrete with laboratory tests and mock-up test.

A Study for Selection and Field Applicability of Asphalt Precast Pothole Repair Materials (아스팔트 프리캐스트 포트홀 보수재료의 선정과 현장 적용성에 관한 연구)

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this study was to break away from the workforce method using cold-mix asphalt mixtures and has a constant quality and has develop repair materials of pre-production asphalt-precast types. METHODS: The selection of the repair material was determined as the results obtained through physical properties of materials and the field applicability. In case of repair materials, values obtained through Marshall stability test & the dynamic stability test & retained stability test as well as the site conditions was considered. In case of adhesive, test results were obtained through examination of the bond strength(tensile, shear) and the field applicability of the adhesive was examined through combined specimens to simulate field applications. RESULTS : According to the results of laboratory tests, in the case of repair materials, Marshall stability and dynamic stability, retained stability of cold-mix reaction type asphalt mixture is the highest. In the case of adhesive, two-component epoxy-urea has a very high bonding strength(tensile, shear) was most excellent. According to the results of field tests, when epoxy-urea was excellent workability. Also, the repair body through actual mock-up test did not occur large deformation and fracture after 12 months. CONCLUSIONS : A suitable repair material is cold-mix reaction type mixture of asphalt-precast, a suitable adhesive is a two-component epoxy-urea.
