  • A fluxgate magnetic sensor consists of a solenoid excitation coil, pick-up coil, and magnetic core. We presents the effect of magnetic core shape in a micromachined fluxgate sensor. To observe the performance of fluxgate sensor with magnetic core side width and gap, side width of 125 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 250 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were designed in a rectangular-ring shaped core and the gaps of 0 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were also fabricated in a racetrack shaped core. The solenoid coils and magnetic core were separated by benzocyclobutane(BCB) which had high insulation and good planarization characters. Copper coil patterns of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ width and 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were electroplated on Ti(300 $\AA$) / Cu(1500 $\AA$) seed layers. 3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick N $i_{0.8}$F $e_{0.2.}$(permalloy) film for the magnetic core was also electroplated under 2000 gauss to induce the magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic core had the high DC effective permeability of ∼1,300 and coercive field of ∼0.1 Oe. Because the magnetic cores of 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ side width and 0 gap had a low magnetic flux leakage, high sensitivity of ∼350 V/T were measured at excitation condition of 3 $V_{P-P}$ and 2 MHz square wave. The power consumption of ∼14 ㎽ was measured. The fabricated fluxgate sensor had the very small actual size of 3.0${\times}$1.7 $\textrm{mm}^2$. When two fluxgates were perpendicularly aligned in terrestrial field, their two-axis output signals were very useful to commercialize an electronic azimuth compass for the portable navigation system.m.m.m.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture toughness of dental composite resins and to investigate the filler factor affecting the fracture behaviour on which the degree of fracture toughness depends. Six kinds of commercially available composite resin;, including two of each macrofilled, microfilled, and hybrid type were used for this study, The plane strain fracture toughness ($K_{10}$) was determined by three-point bending test using the single edge notch specimen according to the ASTM-E399. The specimens were fabricated with visible light curing or self curing of each composite resin previously inserted into a metal mold, and three-point bending test was conducted with cross-head speed of 0.1mm/min following a day's storage of the specimens in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water. The filler volume fractions were determined by the standard ashing test according to the ISO-4049. Acoustic Emission(AE), a nondestructive testing method detecting the elastic wave released from the localized sources In material under a certain stress, was detected during three-point bending test and its analyzed data was compared with, canning electron fractographs of each specimen. The results were as follows : 1. The filler content of composite resin material was found to be highest in the hybrid type followed by the macrofilled type, and the microfilled type. 2. It was found that the value of plane strain fracture toughness of composite resin material was in the range from 0.69 MPa$\sqrt{m}$ to 1 46 MPa$\sqrt{m}$ and highest In the macrofilled type followed by the hybrid type, and the microfilled type. 3. The consequence of Acoustic Emission analysis revealed that the plane strain fracture toughness increased according as the count of Acoustic Emission events increased. 4. The higher the plane strain fracture toughness became, the higher degree of surface roughness and irregularity the fractographs demonstrated.

  • The current paper focuses on the analysis of transient cavitating flow in pressurised polyethylene pipes, which are characterized by viscoelastic rheological behaviour. A hydraulic transient solver that describes fluid transients in plastic pipes has been developed. This solver incorporates the description of dynamic effects related to the energy dissipation (unsteady friction), the rheological mechanical behaviour of the viscoelastic pipe and the cavitating pipe flow. The Discrete Vapour Cavity Model (DVCM) and the Discrete Gas Cavity Model (DGCM) have been used to describe transient cavitating flow. Such models assume that discrete air cavities are formed in fixed sections of the pipeline and consider a constant wave speed in pipe reaches between these cavities. The cavity dimension (and pressure) is allowed to grow and collapse according to the mass conservation principle. An extensive experimental programme has been carried out in an experimental set-up composed of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, assembled at Instituto Superior T$\acute{e}$cnico of Lisbon, Portugal. The experimental facility is composed of a single pipeline with a total length of 203 m and inner diameter of 44 mm. The creep function of HDPE pipes was determined by using an inverse model based on transient pressure data collected during experimental runs without cavitating flow. Transient tests were carried out by the fast closure of the ball valves located at downstream end of the pipeline for the non-cavitating flow and at upstream for the cavitating flow. Once the rheological behaviour of HDPE pipes were known, computational simulations have been run in order to describe the hydraulic behaviour of the system for the cavitating pipe flow. The calibrated transient solver is capable of accurately describing the attenuation, dispersion and shape of observed transient pressures. The effects related to the viscoelasticity of HDPE pipes and to the occurrence of vapour pressures during the transient event are discussed.

  • This work examines the characterization and corrosion behaviour of laser alloyed UNSG10150 steel with three different premixed composition Zn-Sn binary powders using a 4.4 kW continuous wave (CW) Rofin Sinar Nd:YAG laser processing system. The steel alloyed samples were cut to corrosion coupons, immersed in sulphuric acid (0.5 M H2SO4) solution at 30℃ using electrochemical technique and investigated for its corrosion behaviour. The morphologies and microstructures of the developed coated and uncoated samples were characterized by Optic Nikon Optical microscope (OPM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDS). Moreover, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) was used to identify the phases present. An enhancement of 2.7-times the hardness of the steel substrate was achieved in sample A1 which may be attributed to the fine microstructure, dislocations and the high degree of saturation of solid solution brought by the high scanning speed. At scanning speed of 0.8 m/min, sample A1 exhibited the highest polarization resistance Rp (1081678 Ωcm2 ), lowest corrosion current density icorr (4.81×10−8A/cm2 ), and lowest corrosion rate Cr (0.0005 mm/year) in 0.5 M H2SO4. The polarization resistance Rp (1081678 Ωcm2 ) is 67,813-times the polarization of the UNSG10150 substrate and 99.9972% reduction in the corrosion rate.

  • This paper presented the implementation and design of the 2T-2R wireless HD video streaming systems over 1.7 GHz frequency band using 3GPP LTE-TDD standard on NI USRP RIO SDR platform. The baseband of the system used USRP RIO that are stored in Xilinx Kintex-7 chip to implement LTE-TDD transceiver modem, the signal that are transmitted from USRP RIO up or down converts to 1.7 GHz by using self-designed 1.7 GHz RF transceiver modules and it is finally communicated HD video data through self-designed 2x9 sub array antennas. It is that communication method between USRP RIO and Host PC use PCI express x4 to minimize delay of data to transmit and receive. The implemented system show high error vector magnitude performance above 32 dBc and to transmit and receive HD video in experiment environment anywhere. The proposed hybrid beam forming system could be used not only in the future 5G mobile communication systems under 6 GHz frequency band but also in the systems over 6 GHz frequency band like ones in mmWave frequency bands.

  • An explosion modeling technique was developed by using the spherical discrete element code, PFC3D, which can be used to model the dynamic stress wave propagation phenomenon. The modeling technique is simply based on an idea that the explosion pressure should be applied to a PFC3D particle assembly not in the form of an external force (body force), but in the form of a contact force (surface force). According to this concept, the explosion pressure is applied to the wall particles by the scheme of radius expansion/contraction of inner-hole particles. The output wall force is compared to the input hole pressure in every time step, and a correction routine is activated to control the radius multiplier of the inner-hole particles. A comparative blast simulation far a cement mortar block of $80\times90\times80mm$ was conducted by using the conventional explosion modeling method and the new one. The results of the simulation are presented in a qualitative fashion.

  • The Gangneung region has the complicated geographical characteristics being adjacent to East Sea and Taeback mountains, and thus sea breeze could play an important role in local weather in various aspects. This study aims to understand overall characteristics of sea breeze largely based on long-term (2009~2018) ground-based observation data. We also propose a selection criteria of sea breeze occurrence day; 1) daily precipitation is less than 10 mm, 2) surface wind direction is 0~110° (northerly to easterly) for more than 3 hours during the daytime, 3) wind direction is 110~360° for more than 3 hours during the nighttime, and 4) land and sea temperature difference is positive during the daytime, 5) sea and land sea-level pressure difference is more than 0.5 hPa. As a result, a total of 595 days was selected for the past 10 years. The occurrence of sea breeze is the highest in late Spring to early Summer (May to June). The passage time of sea breeze at the inland station (1.6 km farther inland) is one hour later than the coastal station. On the typical sea breeze event of April 12, 2019, the passage speed and duration of sea breeze was 15 km hr-1 and about 9 hours, respectively, with its depth of about 500 m and its head swelling. The current results emphasize the critical role of sea breeze in forecasting surface temperature and wind, and contribute to relieve heat wave especially in summer in the Yeongdong region.

  • This study intends to find out possible variations in physical properties and color of hair depending on dye type(acidic and alkalic) and permanent treatment/hair dyeing procedure. To meet the goals, healthy hair samples were taken from 5 women's hair speciment in 20's without experiencing in any harmful substance via long-term medications. and beauty care using chemicals. To get possible findings depending upon hair dye type and treatment procedure, both acidic and alkalic hair dye were applied on some specimens after permanent treatment, while on other specimens before permanent treatment. In order to determine scale damage, this study used SEM(Hitachi S-2500C) both hair thickness and tensile strength were measured with optical microscope(Nikon, MM-60/L3T) and Instron (4482-standard). Wave configuration was measured transverse and longitudinal round diameter. The chromaticity of each specimen was measured using a spectrocolorimeter(Color Techno System, JP/JX-777) with visual $C/2^{\circ}$ (at $2^{\circ}$ with C light source) monitor fixed to determine Lab and CMYK values. As a result, it was found that hair specimens were more significantly damaged with alkalic hair dye treatment than with acidic hair dye treatment, while hair specimens were more effectively dyed with the former hair dye type than with the latter one. For possible results depending on treatment procedure, it was found that hair specimens were less damaged but more effectively dyed with permanent treatment followed by hair dyeing than vice versa. Therefore, it was concluded that permanent treatment followed by acidic hair dyeing would be more effective in reducing hair damages.

  • Numerical simulations and experiments have been carried out to investigate the effect of fuel injection nozzles on the combustion and NOx formation processes in a medium-speed marine diesel engine. Spray visualization experiment was performed in the constant-volume high-pressure chamber to verify the numerical results on the spray characteristics such as spray angle and spray tip penetration. Time-resolved spray behaviors were captured by high-speed digital camera and analyzed to extract the information on the spray parameters. Spray and combustion phenomena were examined numerically using FIRE code. Wave breakup and Zeldovich models were adopted to describe the atomization characteristics and NOx formation processes. Numerical results were verified with experimental data such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate and NOx emission. Finally, the effects of fuel injection nozzles on the engine performance were investigated numerically to find the optimum nozzle parameters such as fuel injection angle, nozzle hole diameter and number of nozzle holes. From this study, the optimum fuel injection nozzle (nozzle hole diameter, 0.32 mm, number of nozzle holes, 8 and fuel injection angle, $148^{\circ}$) was selected to reduce both the fuel consumption and NOx emission. The reason for this selection could be explained from the highest fuel-air mixing in the early phase of injection due to the longest spray tip penetration and the highest heat release rate after $19^{\circ}$ ATDC due to the increased injection duration.

  • In this paper, a 60 GHz LTCC SiP with low-power CMOS OOK modulator and demodulator is presented. The 60 GHz modulator is designed in a 90-nm CMOS process. The modulator uses a current reuse technique and only consumes 14.4-mW of DC power in the on-state. The measured data rate is up to 2 Gb/s. The 60 GHz OOK demodulator is designed in a 130nm CMOS process. The demodulator consists of a gain boosting detector and a baseband amplifier, and it recovers up to 5 Gb/s while consuming low DC power of 14.7 mW. The fabricated 60 GHz modulator and demodulator are fully integrated in an LTCC SiP with 1 by 2 patch antenna. With the LTCC SiP, 648 Mb/s wireless video transmission was successfully demonstrated at wireless distance of 20-cm.
