Anaerobic Digestion Treatment for the Mixture of Chinese Cabbage Waste Juice and Swine Manure

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of anaerobic digestion of Chinese cabbage waste juice (CCWJ) and swine manure(SM). Methods: The anaerobic digestion test was conducted under batch and continuous conditions at mesophilic temperature ($36-38^{\circ}C$). The batch test was divided into Experiment I and II. In the Experiment I, biogas potential and production rate of CCWJ was evaluated. In Experiment II the effect of F/M ratio (2.0, 3.2, 4.9) at mixture ratio of 25:75(CCWJ: SM, % vol. basis) on biogas yield was studied. Results: CCWJ produced biogas and methane yield of 929 and 700 mL/g VS added respectively. The biogas yield from the mixture of CCWJ and SM was almost same at F/M ratio of 2.0 and 3.2 but dropped by 14% when F/M ratio increased from 3.2 to 4.9. In continuous test the mixture of CCWJ and SM (25:75, % vol. basis) produced biogas yield of 352 mL/g VS added which is around 11% higher compared to biogas yield from SM alone. Addition to biogas yield digester performance was also improved with co-digestion of CCWJ with SM. Conclusions: The results showed that the anaerobic digestion of CCWJ with SM could be promising for improving both the biogas yield and digester performance at mesophilic temperature.

자일로올리고당을 함유한 설탕이 20대 여성의 변비 개선에 미치는 효과: 이중맹검 연구 (Effect of xylooligosaccharide-sugar mixture on defecation frequency and symptoms in young women with constipation: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial)

  • 본 연구는 자일로올리고당을 설탕에 혼합하여 변비를 앓고 있는 젊은 여성을 대상으로 변비개선효과를 확인하였다. 평균연령 22.1세인 젊은 여성 56명을 대상으로 실험 1에서는 설탕을 플라시보로 하는 이중맹검 임상연구를 통해 자일로올리고당 0.7 g이 함유된 설탕 10 g (n = 19명) 또는 설탕 10 g (n = 19명)을 블랙커피와 함께 복용하도록 하였고, 실험 2에서는 자일로올리고당 0.4 g 함유한 설탕 5.6 g과 1.6 g의 커피, 4.8 g의 식물성 크림이 함유된 커피믹스를 1일 2회씩 6주간 섭취하도록 하였다 (n = 18명). 섭취결과 XOS군과 XOSmix군의 경우 섭취전 주간 배변횟수가 2.47회에서 섭취 1주째부터 증가하여 섭취 6주째에는 주간 배변횟수가 4.11회와 5.67회로 각각 증가하였다. XOS와 XOS 함유 커피믹스는 통계적으로 유의하게 복부 불쾌감과 잔변감을 개선하였으며, 배변횟수의 증가는 섭취초반 부터 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 XOS는 0.7 g의 적은양으로도 변비를 개선하는 효과가 있는 것으로 나타나 음료에 기능성을 갖춘 감미료로서의 활용이 기대된다.

골프장 답압지역의 토양개량 (Effect of Soil Amendments at Heavy Traffic Area in Golf Course)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of soil amendments for reducing soil compaction at heavy traffic area in golf course. Major results of this research are summarized at follows: 1. In the Lab. experiment, the porosity was improved significantly when the materials, such as peatmoss, charcoal, and tire chip mixtures were used respectively. Especially mixture of sand and 20% peatmoss showed higher effectiveness (10%) in porosity, comparing with ordinary sand. This soil mixture(sand 80%+peatmoss 20%) was observed the best in water retention, soil hardness and hydrauric conductivity. 2. In the greenhouse experiment, traffic pressure was given 7 times a day on several combination of mixture treatments to see the top dry weight. The soil mixture of 20% peatmoss showed the highest in the top dry weight. When the more traffic pressure(15 time/day) were given on the different treatment, the top dry weight was significantly reduced. However, the mixture of 20% peatmoss also had the least influence on this type of heavy traffic. 3. In the field experiment, the soil amendments were treated in traffic area f golf course, and observed at 30days, 60days, 90days, 120days after treatment. Visual turf quality(color), root length and soil compaction were compared to those of control. As a result, overall treatments with soil amendments were effective, which showed better turf quality and less soil compaction. 4. In the field test, physical characters of soil (such as soil hardness and hydrauric conductivity) in sand+tire chip+peatmoss(60:20:20, %, v/v) treatment was significantly improved. Also in the slow increasing of traffic, the soil compaction was the most effective in reducing soil hardness.

항균·방충제의 농도에 따른 금속재질에 미치는 영향성 및 표면변화 조사 (The influential Investigation and Surface Change by Concentration to the Antimicrobial Agent and Insecticide on Metallic Material)

  • 항균 방충제가 은(Ag), 구리(Cu), 납(Pb), 철(Fe) 등의 재질로 구성된 문화재에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 Oddy test를 실시하였다. 금속시편으로는 은(99.9%), 구리(99.9%), 납(99.9%), 철(99.5%)을 사용하였다. 항균 방충제를 60ml 제조 시 주요성분인 B77 Essential oil mixture에 대하여 표준물질 농도인 17.5%를 기준으로 ${\pm}1{\sim}2%$의 농도로 제조하였으며, 저농도의 B77 Essential oil mixture에 항균성분인 BS-2와 BS-3를 각각 첨가하여 제조하였을 때 금속시편에 미치는 영향도 조사하였다. Oddy test 실험 후의 표면관찰, 중량측정, 색도측정 및 SEM-EDS분석으로 표면의 변화를 알아보았다. 실험 결과 납(Pb)시편이 가장 큰 표면변화를 보였으며, 색측계 측정결과 구리(Cu)의 색차가 가장 컸다. 또한 이 실험을 통해서 B77 Essential oil mixture의 농도 19%에서 실험 전과 후의 시편에서 변화가 가장 컸으며, B78 Essential oil mixture가 포함된 약품에서 비교적 큰 변화가 나타났다. 즉, B77 Essential oil mixture의 농도가 높을 경우에는 표면 변화가 컸으며, B77 Essential oil mixture가 저농도일 경우 B78 Essential oil mixture가 포함되어 제작된 약품에서 비교적 큰 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 B78 Essential oil mixture를 첨가하지 않은 저농도의 B77 Essential oil mixture에서는 표면변화가 크지 않음을 확인할 수 있었다.

석회보르도액 처리농도 및 시기가 4, 5년생 인삼의 생육과 병발생에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Concentration and Time of Lime-Bordeaux Mixture on Growth and Disease of Four and Five Year Old Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer))

  • Lime-bordeaux mixture (LBM) has been used instead of pesticides in ginseng field and orchard since the 1960's in Korea. In this experiment, LBM was made with different concentrations and sprayed in the field of ginseng for eco-friendly cultivation. Growth characteristics and disease such as alternaria blight, anthracnose, and gray mold were investigated in 4-5 year old ginseng after spraying LBM. LBM caused a little damage on leaf when it was sprayed at the time of leafing stage, late April and early May. Root weights of five-year-old ginseng were 43.1~51.5 g and 41.2~46.6 g in the plot of mid-April and mid-May treatments, respectively. These growth levels were further reduced as compared with that of the chemicals treatment plot. The rate of diseases in the plot of 6-6 and 8-8 ratio were 0.0~4.8% and 0.0~4.4%, respectively, which was similar with that in the plot of chemical control for alternaria blight and anthracnose. However, LBM had little effect on controling gray mold. It showed lower control effect in the plot of 4-4 ratio than that of chemical control. This result will be expected to be a useful guide that can be used in the field to the farmers of the ginseng.

복숭아 과원에서 월동 후 세균구멍병 방제를 위한 보르도액 최적 살포시기 (The Best Spray Timing for the Control of the Bacterial Shot Hole with Bordeaux mixture (6-6) after Wintering in the Peach Orchard)

  • 복숭아 과원에서 월동 후에 세균구멍병 방제를 위한 보르도액(6-6)의 최적 살포시기를 구명하기 위해 이 연구를 수행하였다. 복숭아 미백도와 유명 및 천홍 품종에서 2001년과 2002년, 2014년 3월 하순부터 4월 중순까지 보르도액(6-6)을 살포한 후 복숭아 세균구멍병 발병 양상과 약해 정도를 조사하였다. 2002년에 보르도액 살포시기별 세균구멍병 이병률의 경우 잎에서 10.2~11.7%, 과실에서 1.7~2.2% 정도였으며, 2014년에 보르도액 종류별 세균구멍병 이병률은 잎에서 21.2~30.4%, 과실에서 1.7~4.4%였다. 약해는 보르도액 처리 후 1주일 경에 미약하게 발생하였다. 착과율은 미백도에서 20.7~29.8% 였으며, 유명에서는 35.4~61.9% 정도였다. 개화기에 자가 조제한 보르도액을 살포했을 때 복숭아 세균구멍병에 효과가 있는 것으로 조사되었으며, 보르도액 자가 조제구와 완제품 배량 처리구의 경우 21~25% 정도의 이병엽률로 완제품 기준량의 28~30% 정도에 비해 방제효과가 높았다.

  • Many industrial products such as paints, ink and adhesives are composed of the ingredients of a mixture. In mixture experiments, the characteristics of quality(response) depends only on the proportions of the ingredients and does not depend on the total amount of the mixture. This article discusses the constrained mixture experimental design, the data analysis, and the optimum formulation of ingredients based on the two quality characteristics - taste and flavor. It IS shown that efficient designs can be constructed from D-optimal criterion. Special cubic models were selected as the final mixture response surfaces for both reponses. The desirability function was used for the optimization of the two responses.

  • The study is aimed to assess the usefulness of the mixture design for spent resin immobilization in cement. Although a considerable amount of research has been carried out to determine the limits for the composition of an acceptable resin-cement mixture, no efficient experimental strategy exists that explores the full properties of waste form against composition relationship. In order to gain an overall view, this report introduces the method of mixture design and mixture analysis, and describes the design of experiment of the 5-component mixture with the constraint conditions. The mathematic models of 28-day compressive strength varying with the ingredients are fitted, and the main effect and interaction effect of two ingredients are identified quantitatively along with the graphical interpretation using the response trace plot and contour plots.

식물성 단백질 혼합물을 이용한 넙치(Paralichthys olivaceus) 사료 내 어분대체 가능성 평가 (Evaluation of a Mixture of Plant Protein Source as a Partial Fish Meal Replacement in Diets for Juvenile Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus)

  • This study was conducted to examine a mixture of plant protein sources as a fish meal (FM) substitute. Two feeding trials were carried out using similar dietary formulations but different FM levels. In Experiments 1 and 2, the basal diets were formulated to contain 65% and 60% of FM, respectively. The other five diets were formulated replacing FM by 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30% with a mixture of soybean meal, wheat gluten and soy protein concentrate. Three synthetic amino acids (lysine, threonine and methionine) were added to the test diet. Groups of fish in experiment 1 ($6.76{\pm}0.03g$) and experiment 2 ($32.5{\pm}0.1g$) were fed one of the experimental diets for 7 and 9 weeks, respectively. Each experiment was carried out in triplicate. There were no significant differences among groups in terms of growth performance, feed utilization, survival or hematological parameters in either experiment. The results indicated that a mixture of soybean meal, wheat gluten and soy protein concentrate, supplemented with three synthetic amino acid, can replace fish meal by up to 30% in diets for juvenile olive flounder.

Synergetic effect of soluble whey protein hydrolysate and Panax ginseng berry extract on muscle atrophy in hindlimb-immobilized C57BL/6 mice

  • Background: Sarcopenia, defined as loss of muscle mass and strength with age, becomes a public health concern as the elderly population increases. This study aimed to determine whether the mixture of soluble whey protein hydrolysate (WPH) and Panax ginseng berry extract (GBE) has a synergetic effect on sarcopenia and, if so, to identify the relevant mechanisms and optimal mixing ratio. Methods: In the first experiment, C57BL/6 mice were hindlimb immobilized for one-week and then administered WPH 800 mg/kg, GBE 100 mg/kg, WPH 800 mg/kg+ GBE 100 mg/kg mixture, and Fructus Schisandrae extract (SFE) 200 mg/kg for two weeks. In the second experiment, experimental design was same, but mice were administered three different doses of WPH and GBE mixture (WPH 800 mg/kg+ GBE 100 mg/kg, WPH 800 mg/kg+ GBE 90 mg/kg, WPH 1000 mg/kg+ GBE 75 mg/kg). Results: In the first experiment, we confirmed the synergetic effect of WPH and GBE on muscle mass and identified that GBE was more effective on the protein synthesis side, and WPH tended to be slightly more effective for protein degradation. In the second experiment, among three different ratios, the WPH 800 mg/kg+ GBE 100 mg/kg was most effective for muscle mass and strength. The mixtures activated muscle protein synthesis via PI3K/Akt/mTORc1 pathway and inhibited muscle protein degradation via suppressing ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and autophagy-lysosome system (ALS), and these effects were more GBE dose-dependent than WPH. Conclusion: The WPH and GBE mixture having a synergetic effect is a potential agent to prevent sarcopenia.
