  • This paper presents an application of LMI-based techniques to the mixed $H_2/ H_\infty$ control of an inverted pendulum. The linear model of the inverted pendulum represented by an LFR(Linear Fractional Representation) model of uncertainties is derived. Considered uncertainties are three nonlinear components and a parameter uncertainty Augmenting the LFR model by adding weighting functions, we get a generalized plant, for which we design a mixed $H_2/ H_\infty$ controller using the LMI technique. To evaluate control performances and robust stability of the mixed $H_2/ H_\infty$ controller designed, we compare it with the $ H_\infty$controller through the simulation and experiment. The mixed $H_2/ H_\infty$ controller shows the better control performances and robust stability than the $H_\infty$controller in the sense of pendulum angle.

  • This paper presents a simple methodology for reducing the order of H$_{\infty}$ controllers in the mixed sensitivity control problems. The key point of this methodology is to transform the generalized plant expression to new one, where the control object and the weighting functions for the sensitivity function may have some poles on the imaginary axis. So that, this methodology makes it possible to use the standard method to solve the general H$_{\infty}$ design problems about the mixed sensitivity problems, even for a servo system or a oscillatory system. We derive that the order of H$_{\infty}$ controllers designed by this methodology may be reduced to n$_{p}$ where n$_{p}$ is the order of the denominator of the control object. It is clear that n$_{p}$ is lower than n$_{p}$ + n$_{s}$, which is the order of H$_{\infty}$ controllers obtained by the ordinary H$_{\infty}$ design method up to now, where n$_{s}$ is the order of the denominator of the weighting function for sensitivity. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the results..lts.ts..lts.lts.

  • In this paper, we propose a coprime factor model reduction method to get a reduced order controller in $H^{\infty}$ mixed sensitivity problem with frequency weighting functions. for this purpose, the given $H^{\infty}$ mixed sensitivity problem is transformed into robust stabilization problem with coprime factor uncertainty of given plant. This method is to define frequency weighted coprime factors of plant in CSD (chain scattering description) form and reduce the coprime factors using weighted balanced truncation. then a controller is designed to the reduced order coprime factors using J-lossless coprime factorization method. Using this approach, the robust stability condition is derived and good performance is preserved in closed loop system with the given plant and the reduced order controller. Also the order of reduced controller for guaranteeing the robust stability can be determined before designing the reduced controller. The proposed method behaves well in both stable and unstable plant.

  • This paper is concerned with a mixed control with aerodynamic fin and side thrust control applied to an agile missile using a dynamic inversion and a time-varying control technique. The nonlinear dynamic inversion method with the weighting function allocates the desired control inputs(aerodynamic fin and side thrust control) to achieve a reference command, and the time-varying control technique plays the role to guarantee the robustness for the uncertainties. The proposed schemes are validated by nonlinear simulations with aerodynamic data.

  • When missile is launched, a launcher needs to be leveled with accuracy to avoid the systems's instability. In general, a launcher is leveled by adjusting the stroke of leveling jacks; however, it is still challenge to control the leveling jacks fast and accurately. This paper thus proposed an innovative algorithm for compensating ground inclination of a missile launcher to expand operational field of a missile launcher. Using two inclinometers attached on a launcher, a base jack for leveling is selected and the mixed gradient where launcher stands on can be estimated. Due to the limited stroke, the launcher can compensate its ground inclination within maximum stroke margin. Then, the ground inclination of a launcher can be compensated by calculated angle using weighting factors. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm is proved with a prototype missile launcher.

  • The H$_{\infty}$robust controller fur the reactor power control system is designed by use of the mixed weight sensitivity. The system is configured into the typical two-port model with which the weight functions are augmented. Since the solution depends on the weighting functions and the problem is of non-convex, the genetic algorithm is used to determine the weighting functions. The cost function applied in the genetic algorithm permits the direct control of the power tracking performances. In addition, the actual operating constraints such as rod velocity and acceleration can be treated as design parameters. Compared with the conventional approach, the controller designed by the genetic algorithm results in the better performances with the realistic constraints. Also, it is found that the genetic algorithm could be used as an effective tool in the robust design. robust design.

  • The mixed-mode stress intensity factors of 2-D angled cracks are evaluated by Petrov-Galerkin natural element (PG-NE) method in which Voronoi polygon-based Laplace interpolation functions and CS-FE basis functions are used for the trial and test functions respectively. The interaction integral is implemented in a frame of PG-NE method in which the weighting function defined over a crack-tip integral domain is interpolated by Laplace interpolation functions. Two Cartesian coordinate systems are employed and the displacement, strains and stresses which are solved in the grid-oriented coordinate system are transformed to the other coordinate system aligned to the angled crack. The present method is validated through the numerical experiments with the angled edge and center cracks, and the numerical accuracy is examined with respect to the grid density, crack length and angle. Also, the stress intensity factors obtained by the present method are compared with other numerical methods and the exact solution. It is observed from the numerical results that the present method successfully and accurately evaluates the mixed-mode stress intensity factors of 2-D angled cracks for various crack lengths and crack angles.

  • A $H_{\infty}$ adaptive controller is designed by using polynomial approach. The $H_{\infty}$ robust controllers for adaptive system were designed by Grimble. But they did not minimize the mixed sensitivity ra cost function which is the re sum of weighted sensitivity and complementary sensitivity terms Moreover pole placement is dependent of cost function. In this paper, the mixed sensitivity re cost function is minimized by employing the Youla parameterization and polynomial approach at the same time. And pole plaement is independent of weighting function.

  • A pleomorphic adenomas (so-called mixed tumors) predominantly localize in the salivary glands. of the mixed tumors affecting the major sailvary glands. 90% ocur in the parotid gland, about 9% occur in the submaxillary gland, and 1% occur in the sublingual gland. The sites of origin of tumors of the inor salivary glands, in order of frequency, are the palate, lip, tongue, cheek, anf floor of the mouth. In the case of reported here a tremendous large pleomorphic adenima (weighting 580gm, measuring 18X7cm) occuerd in the submaxilly gland which had been growing for about 20 years.

  • Evaluation of traffic data quality is a backbone of better traffic information and management systems because it directly affects the reliability of traffic information. This study developed an integrated index for evaluating the quality of archived intelligent transportation systems (ITS) data. Two novel indices including spatio-temporal consistency and severity of missing data were devised and integrated with existing indices such as availability and completeness. An evaluation framework was proposed based on the developed integrated index. Both analytical hierarchical analysis (AHP) technique and entropy method were adopted to derive mixed weighting values to be used for the integrated index. It is expected that the proposed methodology would be effectively used in enhancing the quality of traffic data as a part of traffic information system.
