  • Design of a weapon-carrier type of missile requires to provide a highly reliable mechanism of airframe separation and air stabilizer deployment which enables the safe release of payload at high-speed flight conditions. This mechanism is characterized by a relative dynamic motion of multiple separated bodies, proceeding as swiftly as hundreds of milli-seconds, so that the use of modeling & simulation(M&S)techniques could play a crucial role in the design. This paper presents an M&S technique which has been developed for a design of anti-submarine missile employing a clamshell type of airframe separation, and shows some major results of simulation compared to available flight test results. Emphasis of the current study was laid on a proper balance between the quick calculation, which is essential for practical design application, and the credibility of the results.

  • The structural integrity of a dual-purpose metal cask currently under development by the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) was evaluated, through numerical simulations and a model test, under high-speed missile impact reflecting targeted aircraft crash conditions. The impact conditions were carefully chosen through a survey on accident cases and recommendations from literature. In the impact scenario, a missile flying horizontally hits the top side of the cask, which is freestanding on a concrete pad, with a velocity of 150 m/s. A simplified missile simulating a commercial aircraft engine was designed from an impact loade-time function available in literature. In the analyses, the dynamic behavior of the metal cask and the integrity of the containment boundary were assessed. The simulation results were compared with the test results for a 1:3 scale model. Although the dynamic behavior of the cask in the model test did not match exactly with the prediction from the numerical simulation, other structural responses, such as the acceleration and strain history during the impact, showed very good agreement. Moreover, the containment function of the cask survived the missile impact as expected from the numerical simulation. Thus, the procedure and methodology adopted in the structural numerical analyses were successfully validated.

  • Unsteady numerical analysis was performed to simulate air-launched missiles from a complete helicopter in hover by using an unstructured overset mesh flow solver coupled with a module of six degree-of-freedom motion of equations. The unsteady computations have been performed to obtain flow fields around the complete helicopter including main rotor, tail rotor, and fuselage equipped with multiple missiles, and six-DOF simulation has been performed to predict the behavior of the air-launched missile. The effects of the launching position and the missile thrust on the trajectory of the missile were investigated as well as the aerodynamic interference of the air-launched missile under the unsteady downwash produced by main rotor.

  • In recent years, naval vessels have been developed to fulfill a variety of missions by being equipped with various cutting-edge equipment and ICT technologies. One of the main missions of Korean naval vessels is anti-ballistic missile warfare to defend key units and areas against the growing threat of ballistic missiles. Because the process of detection and interception is too complex and the cost of failure is much high, a lot of preparation is required to effectively conduct anti-ballistic missile warfare. This paper describes the development of a simulation model of anti-ballistic missile warfare with combat systems and equipment to be installed on future naval vessels. In particular, the DEVS formalism providing a modular and hierarchical modeling manner was applied to the simulation model, which can be utilized to efficiently represent various anti-ballistic missile warfare situations. In the simulation results presented, experiments were conducted to analyze the effectiveness of the model for effective detection resource management in anti-ballistic missile warfare. This study is expected to be utilized as a variety of analysis tools necessary to determine the optimal deployment and configuration of combat resources and operational tactics required for effective anti-ballistic missile warfare of ships in the future.

  • This paper presents to calculate the lethality of missile for the simulation test program and to verify the simulation results. In order to calculate a reliable lethality we need may data and experiments of fuse and warhead, but in reality it is hard to perform a task. Therefore, this paper obtained from the reference paper to analyze the lethality data for the calculation of the lethality. We form the 6 DOF simulation model using the MATLAB/SIMULINK. And formed the autopilot algorithm using the vertical and horizontal acceleration feedback and PNG (Proportional Navigation Guidance) command be used to the guidance algorithm. Finally, we evaluate the results about three cases, front launch, side launch and rear launch to simulate the simulation program, and the target is designed to have a constant speed and direction.

  • Launching system is designed to store the payload, withstand the rigors, and prevent it from rusting and damaging. The behavior during initial deployment of the missile is determined by production, assembly and insertion condition of a launching tube and a missile. The purpose of this research is to confirm the safety of a launching tube by statistically analyzing behavior of the missile, during initial deployment stage. Error parameters which effect initial behavior of the missile are selected and analyzed through Monte-Carlo Simulation. Based on the result of simulation, tip-off and stress distribution between rail and shoe is predicted by using the commercial analysis program called Recurdyn. Lastly, the safety factor is calculated based on yield strength of the material and maximum stress of the rail during the process of launching. The safety of the launching system is verified from the result of the safety factors.

  • To analyze the threat decision performance of MWR(Missile Warning Radar) give analysis on condition that we decide the effective threat using the POC(Probability of Over Countermeasure)/PUC(Probability of Under Countermeasure). Thus, we execute the simulation using the Monte-Carlo method to analyze effect, but the execution time of simulation took longer than we expected. In this paper, the effect analysis is proposed using the probability model to reduce the execution time of simulation. We present the setting method of parameter for probability model and the effect analysis result of MWR using the simulation. Also, we present the comparison result of simulation execution time for Monte-Carlo and probability model.

  • The High maneuver missiles use various interfaces and high speed guidance and control loop. Hardware-in-the-Loop(HWIL) simulation control system, therefore, should have high performance computing power and hardware interface capabilities, and should be developed using IT technology with which real time operating system, embedded system, data communication technology, and real time hardware control are integrated. This paper suggests the control system design techniques, such as a system hardware configuration, a job distribution algorithm for high performance multi-processors, a real time calculation and control mechanism, inter-processor communication mechanism, and a real time data acquisition technique, to perform the HWIL simulation for high maneuver missile system.

  • In this paper, we investigate the time-sampling effects on the digital implementation of singular perturbation based STT autopilot with excellent performance and propose a compensation method for the time-sampling effects. In digitization of analog STT autopilot, it is found that the stability margin of the fast dynamics is mostly affected to lead to rapid decrease. Under the this analysis, a composite digital controller with additional compensator for fast dynamics is proposed to improve the time-sampling effect and a simulation verifies the result.

  • This paper combines the disturbance accommodating control(DAC) and nonlinear model inversion control for a skid-to-turn(STT) missile. The missile autopilot may be designed to be robust with respect to a variety of uncertainties. We proposes the two step control design method. Nonlinear model inversion control is used as the main design method. Due to the model uncertainties and external disturbances, the exact nonlinear model inversion can not be achieved. DAC is designed to detect, to identify, and to compensate these uncertainties. DAC's disturbance observer is linear. Thus it is easy to implement. It does not cause the convergence problem due to coexistence between the modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. 6 DOF simulation results show that the proposed method may improve the missile tracking performance.
