The Standing Crop and Edaphic Factor of Grasslands in Chuiwon near the D.M.Z. (철원지구 비무장지대 초지의 지력에 Standing Crop의 변동에 관한 연구)

  • We study on the standing crop and edaphic factor of grasslands in Chulwon near the D.M.Z. The widespread and most abundant grasses are Arundinella hirta and Miscanthus sinensis in the upland fields of D.M.Z. The vascular flora of grasslands in Umi-dong and Sukda-dong near the D.M.Z. and composed of total 25 species, the most important of which ace Arundinella hirta and Miscanthus sinensis These two species contribute greatly to the standing crop of live naterial was in excess of $107.6g /m^2$. Correlation between standing ccop and water content, organic matter, total nitrogen, or avail-able phosphorus of grassland soils in area studied is high significant. It is argued that these edaphic factors affect the growth of grasses in Umi-dong and Sukda-dong grasslands.

The Primary Productivity of Grasslands in cheju-Island (제주도 초지의 생산성에 관한 연구)

  • The Widespread and most abundant grasses are Miscanthus sinensis and Pteridium aquilinum in the grassland of Cheju-Island. The vascular flora of the grassland are composed of 127 species in all. Those communities of Miscanthus sinensis Pteridium aquilinum Imperata cylindrica Themeda japon-ica and Zoysia japonica are relatively homogeneous. Standing crops of the mixed grass communities range from 657 g /$m^2$ to 2, 975 g /$m^2$ on August 30, and the value of daily net production is around 2.6~121 g/$m^2$. The standing crop of north facing slop showed higher than that of south facing slop. Relationship between the standing crop and water content, organic matter, total nitrogen and available phosphorus of soils in Cheju-Island showed high level of significant.

  • The cycle of heavy metal, copper, was investigated in dynamic grassland ecosystems at a steady state in a Zoysia japonica and a Miscanthus sinensis ecosystem in Mt Kwanak, Korea. Total average storage amounts in Z. japonica and M sinensis grasslands were copper 23.92mg /$m^2$ and 51.82mg /$m^2$ respectively. Estimates of decay constants for based on experimental and mathematical model, were 0.18 in Z. japonica grassland, and 0.30 in M sinensis grassland. Decay half time of copper were 3.85 years in Z. japonica grassland and 2.31 years in A'. sinensis grassland. 95% decay times of initial copper amounts in Z. japonica and A'. sinensis were 16.68 and 9.99 years. Needed times to decay almost all of elements in Z. japonica and M sinensis grassland were 27.80 years and 16.65 years respectively. The copper was losed more rapidly in M. sinensis than in Z. japonica grassland.

  • The leaf anatomy, seasonal growth and regrowth of Miscanthus sinensis were studied at Wonju, 1984. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The leaf of M. sinensis showed typical Kranz anatomy. 2. Seasonal change of standing crop was rapidly increased from May to August and reached its peak in early October. The highest rate of net productivity was $510gdw/m^2$ in late July and the lowest was $80gdw/m^2$ in September. 3. The LAI was continuously broadened and reached its peak, 6.3 in July then decreased. The number of leaves per plant rapidly increased from April to July, and gradually decreased thereafter. 4. High cut of M. sinensis in late April has brought better regrowth than cut and that of in late May has no more regrowth.

Newly Recorded Noctuid Pest, Leucapamea askoldis (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) from Amur Silver Grass, Miscanthus sacchariflorus

  • Amur silver grass, Miscanthus sacchariflorus is one of the promising biofuel weeds. A damage of noctuid pest, Leucapamea askoldis was firstly observed from Amur silver grass in Hwasun silver grass plantation during the survey of insect pests of Amur silver grass in Iksan, Hwasun, and Sancheong plantation areas in Korea. The host of L. askoldis was not known yet in Korea. The L. askoldis damage was observed as larval feeding on newly grown shoots and roots of M. sacchariflorus close to soil surface from early May in 2013. Investigated larval density was $1.6{\pm}1.1per\;m^2$ on April 4 and damage rate of shoots was $0.8{\pm}0.4%$ on May 4, 2013. The larvae bore into shoots of M. sacchariflorus and feed on the inside of plant. The damaged shoots are easily pulled out and distinguished by the boring hole on the shoots. L. askoldis was potential insect pest in M. sacchariflorus plantation areas.

  • 우리나라, 중국 및 일본을 포함한 동북아시아가 원산이며 바이오매스량이 많은 억새(Miscanthus spp.)는 바이오에너지 생산을 위한 원료작물로서 가치가 높아, 바이오에탄올 생산용 원료작물로 주목을 받고 있다. 독일 등 유럽과 미국에서는 바이오에탄올 생산용 작물로 주로 종간 교잡 이질 3배체인 불임성 억새(M. x giganteous)를 대상으로 연구하고 있다. 이렇게 단일유전형을 갖는 품종의 재배에는 특정 병과 해충에 약하며 자연재해에도 취약성을 나타내므로 억새가 바이오에너지작물로 자리 잡기 위해서는 다양한 유전형의 억새 품종 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구는 우리나라의 자생 억새 3종을 기내배양하고 탈분화 및 재분화 시스템을 구축하여 억새 품종 육성 시 효율을 높이기 위해서 실시하였다. 억새 종자로부터 캘러스의 유도는 MS배지보다 N6배지 에서 좋았으며, 식물생장조절제로 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D)와 6-Benzyl aminopurine (BA)를 조합처리한 처리구보다 2,4-D만을 단독처리하였을 때 캘러스 유도율이 더 높았다. 억새 종에 따른 캘러스 유도율은 물억새가 가장 낮고, 거대억새가 가장 높았으며, 3 ~ 5 mg/L의 2,4-D가 첨가된 N6배지에서 배발생 캘러스(embryogenic callus)가 발생하였다. 억새 신초 및 줄기의 절간에서의 캘러스 유도율은 전반적으로 종자에 비하여 낮았으며, 미성숙화기로부터의 캘러스 유도는 억새 종에 따른 차이가 없었으며, 5mg/L의 2,4-D가 첨가된 배지에서 캘러스 유도율이 가장 높게(90 ~ 95%) 나타났다. 형성된 배발생 캘러스로부터 식물체의 재분화는 N6배지에서는 재분화 식물체가 발생하지 않았고, 1 ~ 3mg/L의 BA와 0.1ml/L의 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA)가 첨가된 MS배지에서만 식물체가 재분화되였다.

Plant Species Assemblages and Vegetation Composition of Wetlands Within an Upland Forest

  • Small wetlands in an upland matrix can support diverse vegetation composition that increase both local and regional species richness. In this study we characterize the full range of wetland vegetation in an upland forest landscape at Dumyeong-ri, Gijang-gun, Busan. This wetland index can be calculated with species data, or with community type data as performed. Classified community types were used to describe vegetation at three wetlands and adjacent areas. The communities contained 28 species of vascular plants and 28 species were identified four plant community types. The Pinus densiflora type was dominated by Pinus densiflora and contained only four species. None of the plots had high proportion of standing water. The Carpinus laxiflora type had high obligate upland species (OU) and facultative upland species (FU). The Rhododendron mucronulatum type grew in over half of the plots included Pinus densiflora and Alnus japonica. Some species bother swampy areas adjacent to site C. The Miscanthus sacchariflorus type consisted of seasonal wetlands. The three sites contained nine species with the strongest indicator species being Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens, Miscanthus sinensis, Echinochloa crus-galli, and Sagittaria aginashi. This type had the highest proportions of obligate wetland species. Plant species richness averaged 5.069. Shannon-Weaver index of diversity also varied among the community types (F=22.7, df=4, 115), with the types FU having significantly higher value (2.746) than the others (1.057 for type FW and 1.600 for type OU). Regional plans including all of the diverse types of wetland vegetation in upland forests will contribute substantially to the conservation of plant diversity.

Culture Optimization for Bacillus lentimorbus G-74 by Using a Miscanthus purpurascens Juice Medium (억새즙액 배지를 이용한 Bacillus lentimorbus G-74 균주의 배양 최적화)

  • Miscanthus purpurascens Juice containing potassium (37,952 mg/L), nitrogen (14,000 mg/L), phosphorus (6,800 mg/L), magnesium (5,969 mg/L), calcium (5,910 mg/L), etc., was investigated to develop a novel meidum far the mass cultivation of useful microorganisms. For this research, we first isolated an antagonistic bacterium G-74 from soil, which showed strong growth inhibition against two phytopathogenic fungi, Rhizoctonia solani and Botrytis cinerea, and identified as Bacillus lentimorbus G-74 based on the morphological characteristics and MIDI analysis. Culture conditions for G-74 strain in the M. purpurascens juice medium were optimized. Dilution rate of the medium, temperature and initial pH for the optimum growth of G-74 strain were 30% (V/V), $35^{\circ}C$ and 5.0, respectively. It was found that additions of 2.0% (W/V) corn starch as a carbon source and 1.0% (W/V) yeast extract as a nitrogen source in this medium increased B. lentimorbus G-74 growth to 66% more efficient than Luria Bertani medium.

A Study on Change of an Accumulated Organi Matter Contents According to Successional Stage on Temperate Grassland (천이계열에 따른 온대초원의 유기물량 축적량 변화)

  • To develop accurate and predictive global carbon cycle models, it is important to understand the change of accumulated carbon for many ecosystems according to successional stage. In this study, I measured total biomass, litter and soil organic matter contents through an aerial photo and field observation. As a result, accumulated organic matter contents per unit area (kg $m^{-2})$ of three communities composed at grassland were 7.00 kg $m^{-2}$, in Solidago altissima community, 9.18 kg $m^{-2}$, in Imperata cylindrica community, and 12.68 kg $m^{-2}$, in Miscanthus sinensis community, respectively. Accumulated total organic matter contents was high in Miscanthus sinensis community at later succession stage but soil carbon was low. In Miscanthus sinensis community, highly accumulated organic matter contents was resulted from increasing of biomass comparison with that of the other two communities. The pattern of accumulated organic matter contents was changed by changing of the dominant community due to progressing in succession. The accumulated carbon in temperate grassland will be increased with progressing in succession.

Characteristics of Board Made from Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens Particles (거대억새 파티클로 제조된 보드의 특성)

  • This study was investigated on the properties of board made from Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens particles differed in density of board and mixed ratio of powder type- and liquid type-phenolic resin. As the board density increase, thickness swelling and bending strength increased while water absorption decreased. With increasing the resin content, water absorption and thickness swelling decreased while MOR and internal bond strength increased. The board made of liquid type phenol-formaldehyde resin was low in water absorption and thickness swelling, and there were similar bending strengths between power type- and liquid type-phenol resin in resin cont of 11% and 13% at the board density $0.4g/cm^3$ and internal bond strength was higher with liquid type-phenolic resin in its bending strength.
