  • In order to prevent pollution from animal waste, P, N and pharmacological level minerals should be properly managed. Microbial phytase has been used successfully to control P excretion. Activity of natural phytase in certain plant feedstuffs is high enough to be considered in feed formulation. Nitrogen control can be achieved through amino acid supplementation and protein restriction in the diet. Supplementation with carbohydrases reduces output of excreta as well as N. Ammonia release from the manure could be reduced by using a low crude protein diet along with the supplementation with probiotics products. Excretion of minerals used at pharmacological level can be reduced by using chelated forms. Cu and Zn in the form of methionine chelate have been successfully used in the broiler and pig diets.

  • A fundamental study was conducted on the dissolution of North Korean magnesite using hydrochloric acid to understand the dissolution behavior of the magnesium and impurities. The influence of the acid concentration, particle size of the magnesite, reaction temperature, and pulp density on the dissolution of magnesium, iron, calcium, aluminum, and silicon dioxide was studied. The experimental results showed that 98.5% of magnesium, 86.9% of iron, 87.3% of calcium, 23.6% of aluminum, and 20.4% of silicon dioxide were dissolved when magnesite particle sizes within the range of $75{\sim}105{\mu}m$ were reacted using 3 M HCl solution under 6% pulp density at 363 K for 3 h. The residues that remained after the dissolution were silicon dioxide, talc, and clinochlore.

  • Several heavy metals are known to give some kinds of mental retardation although abnormal X-chromosome is closely connected with genetic disease such as mental retardation. This study dealt with the influence of minerals in the hair of mental retardation people. Minerals were analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (Sciex Elan 6100, Perkin-Elmer corporation, Foster, CA, USA). The nutritional elements such as Ca, Na, K were higher level (p<0.01) in normal group than in the mental retardation group. The toxic elements such as Cd (p<0.01) and As were higher level in the mental retardation group than in normal group. But Pb is not significant difference among the all groups including normal group.

  • The Asia Pacific papermaking giants are China, Japan and Korea followed by Indonesia. The strong trends in recent years have been the move to alkaline/neutral sizing which has assisted the move from kaolin and talc as the major filler minerals to ground calcium carbonate and precipitated calcium carbonate. Kaolin remains important as a constituent in many coating formulations and Chinese-sourced talc, due to its brightness and price will remain important especially in paper filler minerals. The need for ever increasing printing surface quality and continuing efforts by the paper manufacturers to keep costs under control will ensure minerals in papermaking will continue to be a dynamic subject in the years ahead.

  • We have studied the major food sources of minerals and vitamin based on the data from the National Nutrition Survey in 1993. The most important food sources was anchovy for calcium, spinach for vitamin A, and kimchi for vitamin C. The primary source of iron, thiamin, riboflavin and niacin was rice. Number of foods providing 90% of individual nutrient intake were 54 items for calcium, 40 items for iron, 20 items for vitamin A, 25 items for thiamin, 29 items for riboflavin, 39 items for niacin and 18 items for vitamin C. Among regions, amount of nutrients from same foods(10 more important food source) didn't show any significant differences (p>0.05) in minerals and vitamins studied. Over all rice was found to be the most important sources of minerals and vitamins.

  • This report is written for presenting a principal theme of study about. the origin of Sangdong ore deposit in details, being an aid to find new ore bodies, on the basis of mineralogical charactor and geological feature. Main vein in Sandgong mine has characteristic zonal distribution and localization of minerals. 3 kinds of minerals, that are quartz, hornblende, diopside, form systematically their each rich zones. Other minerals like plagioclase, native bismuth, sphene, molybdenite and wolframite are developed locally. According to the zonal distribution and localization of the minerals, the authors presume that mineralizing agents which changed interbedded limestones into ore bodies act and come up from non-exposed igneous body in the direction perpendicular to the platy main vein. That non-exposed igneous body, presumed, might be extended from the exposed igneous bodies in the southern part of Sangdong mine.

  • In order to investigate the nutrients, such as amino acids and minerals concerned to propagate the cancer cells, cancerous tissues such as neuroblastoma with liver meta, cancer in situs. CIS, meta. squ. cell cancer, R/O squ. cell cancer, macro. RIF, metastatic papillary cancer. neck, stomach cancer, lung cancer, intestinal obs., 3 kinds of rectal cancers were analyzed. Tryptophane, a fat soluble amino acid, and minerals such phosphorus, sulfur and iron were contained exceptionally high in cancerous tissues than that of normal cells. And copper and zinc minerals were contained very low level in cancerous cells. Therefore, we can deduce that those constituents might be concerned to the formation of cancerous tissues.
