  • Korean e-Navigation is a system that introduced to reduce maritime accidents. In order to reduce marine accidents, Korean e-Navigation provides the following services-"Vulnerable Vessel Monitoring", "Vulnerable Vessel support & monitoring", "Optimal safety route", "ENC Streaming for Small Vessel", "Tug & Barge Support", "Maritime Safety Information Providing". Each Service is a system separated into finctional units and integrated into Korean e-Navigation. Korean e-Navigation is introducing data middleware to integrate each service and the DDS(Data Distribution Service) is judged to be effective. Thus, this paper analyzed the characteristics of DDS middleware types suitable for each service of e-Navigation.

  • Lately the usage of multimedia equipment with small LCD displays is rapidly increasing. Although many people use devices like this, videos intended for TV or HDTV are sent to these mobile devices. Therefore cases where it is hard for the user to view the desired scenes are growing more frequent. Currently, most services simply reduce the size of the content to fit the screen when they offer it for mobile devices. However, especially with sports broadcasts, there are many areas that cannot be seen very well because it was simply reduced in size. We therefore consider this weakness and are researching how to let the user choose an area of interest and then sending it to the user in a way that fits the device. In this paper, we address the problem of video delivery and personalization. For the delivered video content, we suggest the UP-SAM User Personalized Context-Aware Service Adaptation Middleware) model that uses the video content description and MPEG-21 multimedia framework.

  • As the T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) has been actively launched, all the service providers are focusing on finding a new business model using a variety of data services as well as video service. The middleware technology for data broadcasting service, which was presented due to such necessity, known as DMB MATE (Mobile Application Terminal Environment), provides a running environment of the applications and APIs so that the various data applications can support high-level functionalities for the interactive data service. In this paper, in order to effectively provide the data service under restricted channel environment of T-DMB, we introduce a service technology and an interactive data broadcasting system using the DMB MATE, specifically proposing a design method of T-DMB MATE receiver capable of the presented DMB MATE service. Finally, the performance of developed system is confirmed through the T-DMB data broadcasting experiment under a variety of conditions.

  • In this paper, we introduce the UTOPIA Smart City Security Management System which manages a user authentication for smart cities. Because the smart city management system should take care of huge number of users and services, and various kinds of resources and facilities, and they should be carefully controlled, we need a specially designed security management system. UTOPIA is a smart city system based on ICT(Information and Communication Technology), and it has a three tier structure of UTOPIA portal system, UTOPIA processing system and UTOPIA infrastructure system. The UTOPIA processing system uses the smart city middleware named SmartUM. The UTOPIA Smart City Security Management System is implemented in the application security layer, which is the top layer of the SmartUM middleware, and the infrastructure security layer, which is the lowest layer. The UTOPIA Smart City security management system is built on the premise that it supports all existing user authentication technologies. This paper introduces the application security layer and describes the authentication management in the application security layer.

  • With the advancement of the internet, the use of personal information in online interactions has increased, underscoring the significance of data protection. Breaches of personal data due to unauthorized access can result in psychological and financial damage to individuals, and may even enable wide-ranging societal attacks aimed at those associated with the victims. In response to such threats, there is active research into security measures using blockchain to safeguard personal information. This study proposes a system that uses middleware and IAM (Identity and Access Management) services to protect personal information in a BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) environment where blockchain is provided via the Internet. The middleware operates on servers where IAM roles and policies are applied, authenticates users, and performs access control to allow only legitimate users to access blockchain data existing in the cloud. Additionally, to understand the impact of the proposed personal information protection method on the system, we measure the response time according to the time taken and the number of users under three assumed scenarios, and compare the proposed method and research related to personal information protection using blockchain in terms of security characteristics such as idea, type of blockchain, authentication, and confidentiality.

  • LBS has attracted considerable attention with the spread of high performance mobile devices and the expansion of mobile business. Our study starts from the recognition of the problems associated with the current mobile Sales Force Automation(SFA) which is one of the application domain of LBS: they lack the capabilities such as an efficient sharing of information. This paper presents a technical framework in which the location information on the move and the mobile P2P service are utilized for the realization of truly mobile SF A platforms. Major contributions of our study include feasible prototyping of gCRM middleware via which the location-based services on the move are enabled, and a agent module involving the P2P service for mobile clients.

  • For the activeness and autonomy of a sensor network, the efficient migration method of a mobile agent and the consistent naming services are the required components of a sensor network. Accordingly, this paper presented the implementation of backward migration of an active rule mobile agent applying the naming method based on RMI that used the meta_table including the informations about the components of a sensor network. This study implemented based on the extension of the forward migration[12], and the results of the various experiments present the efficacy of mobile agent middleware system and the possibility of constructing efficient sensor network application environment. And, the results of this study are able to enhance the adaptability on dynamic changes of environment in sensor network application development.

  • With the recent development of the ubiquitous computing technology, there are increasing interest and research in technologies such as sensors and RFID related to information recognition and location positioning in various ubiquitous fields. Especially, RTLS (Real-Time Locating Services) dealing with spatio-temporal data is emerging as a promising technology. For these reasons, the ISO/IEC published RTLS standard specification for compatibility and interoperability in RTLS. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems for efficiently managing and searching the incoming Spatio-temporal data stream of moving objects. Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems's spatio-temporal middleware maintains interoperability among heterogeneous devices and guarantees data integrity in query processing through real time processing of unceasing spatio-temporal data streams and two way synchronization of spatio-temporal DBMSs. Web Server uses the SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) message between client and server for interoperability and translates client's SOAP message into CQL(Continuous Query Language) of the spatio-temporal middleware.

  • Recently, there has been much research to develope and apply RFID technology, which has a kcy role in the upcoming ubiquitous society, in many fields such as physical distribution, traffic control, medical service, and so on. However, there has been little research on a ubiquitous education or learning including 'u-Campuses' and 'u-Libraries'. Based on the characteristics of RFlD, this paper proposes a system for English learning required in globalization age. RFID tags and sensors utilize wireless communications to track the location and status information of the user to deliver English situated learning services. The current RFID-based system should use quite a different rniddleware, compared with a general-purpose middleware on server or desktop. The RFID system is used on a mobile PDA and consists of essential APIs such as reader and tag control, queue, and filter management.

  • A URC, which is a Ubiquitous Robot Companion, provides services to users in ubiquitous computing environments and has advantage of simplifying robot's hardware and software by distributing the complicated functionality of robots to other system. In this paper, we propose SOWL, which is a software architecture for URC robots and a mixed word of SOMAR and CAWL. SOWL keeps the advantages of URC and it also has the loosely-coupled characteristics. Moreover it makes it easy to develop of URC robot software. The proposed architecture is composed of 4 layers: device software, robot software, robot application, and end user layer. Developers of the each layer is able to build software suitable for their requirements by combining software modules in the lower layer. SOWL consists of SOMAR and CAWL engine. SOMAR, which is a middleware for the execution of device software and robot software, is based on service-oriented architecture(SOA) for robot software. CAWL engine is a system to process CAWL which is a context-aware workflow language. SOWL is able to provide a layered architecture for the execution of a robot software. It also makes it possible for developers of the each layer to build module-based robot software.
