  • LVC(live-virtual-constructive) integrated training system is a representative cyber-physical system. Each systems in a LVC system has different time domain, resolution and operation methods. So, it is very important to integrate different middlewares as a common middleware for heterogeneous systems using inter-working GWs. Especially, since the LVC system uses different time, it is necessary to study the method for guaranteeing causality and time synchronization among the events from different systems. In this study, we propose an time synchronization scheme to integrate the virtual and constructive system which use the simulation time of HLA (High Level Architecture)/ RTI (Run Time Infrastructure) into the live system based on the OMG DDS (Data Distribution Service). We propose a precise time synchronization scheme based on HLA time management and clock federate between participants and federates which are the communication objects of DDS and HLA/RTI respectively. In addition, we verified that time is well-synchronized among heterogeneous systems using the suggested scheme by implementing and demonstrating simulation applications on each middleware.

  • In this paper, we first survey cross-layer architectures for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs). Afterwards, we propose a novel cross-layer architecture for QoS provisioning in clustered and multi-hop based WMSNs. The proposed architecture provides support for multiple network-based applications on a single sensor node. For supporting multiple applications on a single node, an area in memory is reserved where each application can store its network protocols settings. Furthermore, the proposed cross-layer architecture supports heterogeneous flows by classifying WMSN traffic into six traffic classes. The architecture incorporates a service differentiation module for QoS provisioning in WMSNs. The service differentiation module defines the forwarding behavior corresponding to each traffic class. The forwarding behavior is primarily determined by the priority of the traffic class, moreover the service differentiation module allocates bandwidth to each traffic class with goals to maximize network utilization and avoid starvation of low priority flows. The proposal incorporates the congestion detection and control algorithm. Upon detection of congestion, the congested node makes an estimate of the data rate that should be used by the node itself and its one-hop away upstream nodes. While estimating the data rate, the congested node considers the characteristics of different traffic classes along with their total bandwidth usage. The architecture uses a shared database to enable cross-layer interactions. Application's network protocol settings and the interaction with the shared database is done through a cross-layer optimization middleware.

  • In recent years, business environments have become more complex; therefore, enterprises must be capable of responding flexibly and agilely. For these purposes, effective enterprise systems service monitoring and early decision making based on the same, emerge as core competency of the enterprise. In addition, enterprise system techniques that filter meaningful data are needed to event processing. However, the existing study related with this is nothing but discovering of service faults by monitoring depending upon API of BPEL engine or middleware, or is nothing but processing of simple events based on low-level events. Accordingly, there would be limitations to provide useful business information. In this study, we present an extended event processing model that enables delivery of more valuable and useful business information through situation detection. Primarily, the event processing architecture in an enterprise system is proposed as a definite approach, and then define an event meta-model suitable for the proposed architecture. Based on the defined model, we propose the syntax and semantics of the elements that make up the event processing language include various and progressive event operators, the rules, complex event pattern, etc. In addition, an event context mechanism is proposed to analyze more delicate events. Finally, the effectiveness and applicability of proposed approach is presented through a case study.

  • It is difficult to observe the potential risks of lifting or turn-over operations in the early stages before a real operation. Therefore, many dynamic simulations have been designed to predict the risks and to reduce the possibility of accidents. These simulations, however, have usually been performed for predetermined and fixed scenarios, so they do not reflect the real-time control of an operator that is one of the most important influential factors in an operation; additionally, lifting or turn-over operations should be a collaboration involving more than two operators. Therefore, this study presents an integrated method for a collaborative simulation that allows multiple workers to operate together in the virtual world. The proposed method is composed of four components. The first component is a dynamic analysis that is based on multibody-system dynamics. The second component is VR (virtual reality) for the generation of realistic views for the operators. The third component comprises the control devices and the scenario generator to handle the crane in the virtual environment. Lastly, the fourth component is the HLA (high-level architecture)-based integrated simulation interface for the convenient and efficient exchange of the data through the middleware. To show the applicability of the proposed method, it has been applied to a block turn-over simulation for which one floating crane and two crawler cranes were used, and an offshore module installation for which a DCR (dual-crane rig) was used. In conclusion, the execution of the proposed method of this study is successful regarding the above two applications for which multiple workers were involved.

  • The naval combat system is gradually evolving, actively accepting technological advances. The domain components of the naval combat system must also be adapted to the gradual evolution of the naval battle system. In other words, domain components should be easy to change. However, existing domain components do not fully consider changeability. In particular, when receiving more messages than planned from the middleware, it does not consider a way to process them in a timely manner. We propose a domain component reference architecture for timely processing of increased messages. The proposed architecture separates domain components so that business logic can operate independently, and sets up multiple business logic to operate simultaneously to handle increased messages. The track management domain component is designed using the proposed reference architecture to confirm the applicability.
