An Experimental Study on Friction Reduction by Additives in a Water Channel

  • An experimental study has been carried out as a basic research for the development of the friction drag reduction technology for water-borne vehicles by injecting microbubbles or polymer solution. Experimental apparatus and procedures have been devised and prepared to measure the changes of the wall friction with the injection of additives and the basic experimental data on friction drag reduction are obtained for fully developed channel flows. The effects of key controlling parameters were investigated for higher drag reduction with varying the concentration and the injection rate of additives. The frictional drag has been reduced up to $25\%$ with the microbubble injection and $50\%$ with the polymer solution injection.

Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification by using ejector type microbubble generator in a single reactor

  • This study was performed to verify the possibility of nitrification and denitrification in a single reactor. In batch type experiment, optimal point of experimental conditions could be found by performing the experiments. When supply location of microbubbles was located at half of width of the aeration tank and operating pressure of 0.5 bar, it was possible for zones in the aeration tank to be separated into anoxic and aerobic by controlling air suction rate according to operating pressure of the generator. To be specific, the concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) in zone 1 and 2 of the aeration tank could be maintained as less than 0.5 mg/L. Also, in the case of concentration of oxygen in zone 3 and 4, the concentration of DO was increased up to 1.7 mg/L due to effects of microbubbles. In continuous flow type experiment based on the results of batch type experiments, the removal efficiency of nitrogen based on T-N was observed as 39.83% at operating pressure of 0.5 bar and 46.51% at operating pressure of 1 bar so it was able to know that sufficient air suction rate should be required for nitrification. Also, denitrification process could be achieved in a single reactor by using ejector type microbubble generator and organic matter and suspended solid could be removed. Therefore, it was possible to verify that zones could be separated into anoxic and aerobic and nitrification and denitrification process could be performed in a single reactor.

다항식 회귀분석을 이용한 마이크로 버블의 종말상승속도 모델식 구축 및 운전조건 최적화 (Model setup and optimization of the terminal rise velocity of microbubbles using polynomial regression analysis)

  • 본 연구는 3개의 운전변수(압력, 공기량, 운전시간)를 실험 설계하고 마이크로 버블의 종말부상속도(Terminal rise velocity)를 반응 값으로 하여 예측식 모델과 최적 조건을 수립하였다. 다항식 회귀분석을 통해 펌프의 압력($X_1$) 4.5bar, 공기량($X_2$) 3.3L/min 그리고 운전시간($X_3$)이 2.2min에서 종말상승속도(Terminal rise velocity)에 대한 최적값인 5.14 cm/min ($85.7{\mu}m/sec$)을 얻었다. 또한, 레이저 입자계수 측정장치를 이용하여 $2{\sim}5{\mu}m$$25{\sim}50{\mu}m$ 영역에서의 가장 높은 마이크로버블 직경크기 분포를 확인하였다.

슬릿노즐기반 응집·공기부상공정을 통한 유류폐수 전처리 (Pre-treatment of oily wastewater using a coagulation-DAF process with slit-nozzle)

  • Large amounts of oily wastewater discharged from various industrial operations (petroleum refining, machinery industries and chemical industries) cause serious pollution in the aquatic environment. Although dissolved air flotation (DAF) separating oil pollutants using microbubbles represents current practice, bubble size cannot be selectively controlled, and lots of power is required to generate microbubbles. Therefore, to investigate performance of the DAF process, this study examined the distribution of different sizes of microbubbles resulting from changes in physical shear force via modifying shapes of a slit-nozzle without an additional power supply. Three types of slit-nozzles (different angle, shape and length of the slit-nozzle) were used to analyze the distribution of bubble size. At a slit angle of $60^{\circ}$, shear force was 4.29 times higher than a conventional slit, and particle size distribution (PSD) in the range between 2 and $20{\mu}m$ more than doubled. Treatment efficiency of synthetic oily wastewater through the coagulation-DAF process achieved 90% removal of COD by injecting $FeCl_3$ and PACl of 250 mg/L and 100 mg/L, respectively, and the same performance resulted using $FeCl_3$ of 200 mg/L and PACl of 80 mg/L employing a slit-nozzle angle of $60^{\circ}$. This study shows that a coagulation-DAF process using a modified slit-nozzle can improve the pre-treatment of oily wastewater.

수중 내 발포성 정제로부터 생성된 미세기포 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Microbubbles Generated by an Effervescent Tablet in Water)

  • Effervescent tablets generate gas bubbles when chemical reaction occurs between water and tablets. Most of previous studies have been focused on pharmaceutical characteristics of tablets. However, for their applications in disinfectants, cleaners, and pesticides, physical characteristics of bubbles released from the effervescent tablets when they are in water are important. In this study, we experimentally investigated the characteristics of microbubbles generated by an effervescent tablet made of sodium bicarbonate and tartaric acid using PDPA and high-speed camera. Microbubbles were generated using different weights of effervescent tablet as well as in different water temperature. The experimental study shows increase in reaction time, bubble concentration and rise velocity as the weight of effervescent tablet increases from 1 to 20 g. The decrease in average bubble diameter was observed when the temperature of water increased from 25 to 45 ℃. Further, reaction time varies inversely with increase in water temperature, while bubble rise velocity is directly proportional to increase in water temperature. Effervescent table continuously generates the bubble with approximately constant diameter (235 ㎛) in the water. However, bubble concentration and bubble rise velocity decreased over time.

약물이 탑재된 미소기포와 결합된 sonoporation: 유방암세포에 대한 치료효과 (Sonoporation with echogenic liposome: therapeutic effect on a breast cancer cell)

  • 공학적으로 제작된 미소기포 중 가스층과 유체층을 함께 내포하는 echogenic liposome은 수용성 약물 탑재에 용이하다. 또한 특정 위치에서 약물을 방출할 수 있다는 점에서 초음파 조영제의 기능을 넘어서 초음파 기반 약물전달(sonoporation)에 활용될 수 있다. 이에 따라, 본 논문에서는 이전 연구에서 제안된 echogenic liposome의 구조를 EF-TEM으로 재확인하였으며 sonoporation에서 약물전달 매개체로의 효과를 세포실험을 통하여 입증하였다. 세포실험은 유방암 조직인 MDA-MB-231 세포 대상으로 대표적 암치료제인 Doxorubicin을 지표 약물로 활용하였다. 비교군(1 그룹), Doxorubicin 그룹(2 그룹), Doxorubicin 과 일반 기포를 추가하여 sonoporation을 한 그룹(3 그룹), Doxorubicin을 echogenic liposome에 탑재하여 sonoporation을 적용한 그룹(4 그룹)으로 구분하여 진행한 실험결과, 4 그룹에서 약물 전달 효과가 초기부터 급격히 증가하였으며, 최종적으로 2 그룹과 3그룹에 비하여 최소 1.4 배 이상 효과적으로 종양 세포 괴사를 유도하였다. 따라서 sonoporation에서 echogenic liposome은 기존 일반적 미소기포보다 더 효율적인 약물 매개체라고 결론 내릴 수 있다.

마이크로버블을 이용한 분리막 파울링 저감방법 (Method of Reducing Separation Membrane Fouling Using Microbubbles)

  • 수자원 오염 그리고 기후변화로 인한 극한의 기상현상으로 물 부족 현상 심화로 공공하수처리 시설의 폐수 배출시 총유기탄 소량(TOC) 기준이 시행되고, 대체 수자원 확보를 위해 하수처리수 재이용에 연구와 관심이 증가하고 있다. 현장에서는 하폐수고도처리로 MBR(membrane bio-reactor)공법을 보편적으로 사용하며, 유기 및 무기 이온 제거 그리고 화학물질의 사용 및 배출이 없다는 친환경적인 장점이 있다. 하지만, 분리막을 사용한 MBR공정은 고농도 활성슬러지 부유물질(mixed liquor suspended solid, MLSS)로 인한 분리막의 막오염(파울링) 현상으로 잦은 막세정 비용 발생의 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서는 분리막 운영시 최대 단점이었던 분리막의 차압 상승, 통수량 저하, 파울링 현상을 개선하고자 i) 공정 개선과 ii) 마이크로버블의 세정 효율을 평가하였다. 기존 MBR공법에 원수가 유입되는 호기조와 MBR조 사이에 침전조를 설치하여 침전조를 거친 상등수가 유입된 분리막조 내부로 마이크로버블을 주입하였다. 마이크로버블은 5개월간 15일 간격으로 마이크로버블 발생장치를 작동(ON), 미작동(OFF)하여 방류수 시료(4L)를 채취 후 TOC를 측정하였다. 침전조를 거친 상등수가 분리막조로 유입하여 원수 MLSS의 95%이상이 제거되어 생물막 등의 오염으로부터 막의 파울링 현상을 1차 방지할 수 있었다. 침전조를 거친 상등수에 마이크로버블의 적용으로 분리막의 차압은 1.6 ~ 2.3배 감소 및 통수량은 최대 1.4배 증가하였다. 마이크로버블의 적용(ON)으로 TOC 제거율은 58% 이상 증가했다. 호기조와 분리막조를 분리 운영함에 따라 침지식 분리막의 파울링 현상을 저감할 수 있고, 추가로 마이크로버블을 적용하여 분리막의 차압, 통수량과 막오염(파울링)이 개선으로 효율적인 고도처리공법을 제시했다.

전해부상을 이용한 활성슬러지의 탈수성 향상 (Improvement of Activated Sludge Dewaterability by Electro-flotation)

  • Electro-flotation(EF), a novel sludge thickening method, could improve the dewaterability of activated sludge. The gas(microbubbles) generated during EF decreased the solid-liquid separation time below 1/5 of the time required for gravity sedimentation. In addition, over 90% of the sludge volume reduction could be achieved by EF although the settling characteristics of the sludge was very poor. The SRF(specific resistance to filtration) of the thickened sludge by EF was much lower than that of the sludge thickened by gravity sedimentation. The SRF of the thickened sludge decreased exponentially with increase of gas generation rate of the EF system. Gas generation rate could be controlled by varying the current density of the electrode. Degasing of the microbubbles by vigorous mixing of the thickened sludge layer deteriorated the dewaterability of the sludge. Therefore, it is obvious that the gas bubbles entrapped in the thickened sludge play a key role in the observed dewaterability improvement.

하수처리시설의 Retrofitting을 위한 파일럿 규모 공기부상공정 연구 (A Pilot Study on Air Flotation Processes for Retrofitting of Conventional Wastewater Treatment Facilities)

  • The pilot study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of air flotation(AF) processes combined with biological nutrient removal(BNR) for the retrofitting of conventional wastewater treatment facilities. The BNR system was operated in pre-denitrification and intermittent aeration; developed ceramic membrane diffusers were installed to separate the solid-liquid of activated sludge at the bottom of a flotation tank. Before performing a pilot scale study, the size distribution of microbubbles generated by silica or alumina-based ceramic membrane diffusers was tested to identify the ability of solid-liquid separation. According to the experimental results, the separation and thickening efficiency of the alumina-based ceramic membrane diffuser was higher than the silica-based ceramic membrane diffuser. In a $100m^3/d$ pilot plant, thickened and return sludge concentration was measured to be higher than 15,000mg SS/L, therefore, the MLSS in the bioreactor was maintained at over 3,000mg SS/L. The effluent quality of the AF-BNR process was 4.2mg/L, 3.7mg/L, 10.6mg/L and 1.6mg/L for $BOD_5$, SS, T-N and T-P, respectively. Lastly, it was revealed that the unit treatment cost by flotation process is lower than about $1won/m^3$ compared to a gravity sedimentation process.

  • 급격한 산업화와 인구증가로 인한 화학물질 사용량의 증가는 기존의 수 처리 방식의 대부분을 차지하는 생물학적 공정의 한계를 불러온다. 이와 같은 문제를 해결하기 위한 방법으로 고급산화공정의 하나인 오존 마이크로버블 기술이 최근 주목을 받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 마이크로버블의 물리학적 및 화학적 특성에 대해 논하고, 다양한 독성 오염물질의 제거를 중심으로 마이크로버블 오존산화공정을 분석하였다. 또한 다른 처리 기술과 결합한 오존 마이크로버블 기술의 용수 및 폐수처리 전망을 논하였다.
