An aerostatic stage has frictionless behavior, so it has a advantage of investigation into positioning characteristics. A one-dimensional aerostatic ceramic stage with ballscrew driven and laser scale feedback system is manufactured, aiming at investigating positioning characteristic of ultra-precision stage. We confirm, this ceramic aerostatic stage has a 10nm micro resolution, and can be reduced mean of position error by compensation of numeric control command. By means of analyzing relationship of position error and change of temperature, we build a on-line compensation algorithm of position error from the measured temperature data. So we can improve repeatability of ultra-precision stage up to 34%($0.095{\mu}$) of the normal condition.
The next generation of Korean high-speed train under development will be designed for the maximum operating speed of 350km/h and maximum speed of 400km/h. This high-speed operation may cause the noise and vibration problems around tunnel exit due to the higher micro-pressure wave than present level. In this study, the nose shape optimization was conducted for the countermeasure against these problems. Axi-symmetric solver was used for numerical simulation, and response surface was used for efficiency of optimization process. Also the multi-step optimization was conducted to find out more accurate optimal shape. Through these analysis and optimization, it was found out that the optimal nose shapes for minimization of micro-pressure wave are definitely different along the nose length variation. And the mechanism of micro-pressure wave reduction was closely investigated by the analysis of generation process of compression wave in tunnel. The results are expected to be used as design guideline for performance improvement of the next generatin of Korean high-speed train.
A bulk amorphous NiTiZrSiSn powder produced using an inert gas atomization was sprayed by kinetic spraying process that is basically a solid-state deposition process onto a mild steel substrate. They were successfully overlaid onto the mild steel substrate. In order to evaluate the tribological behavior of the kinetic sprayed NiTiZrSiSn BMG (Bulk Metallic Glass) coatings, a partially crystallized coating and a fully crystallized coating were prepared by the isothermal heat treatments. Tribological behaviors were investigated in view of friction coefficient, hardness and amorphous phase fraction of coating layer. Surface morphologies and depth in the wear tracks were observed and measured by scanning electron microscope and alpha-step. From the examination of the scratch wear track microstructure, transition from the ductile like deformation (micro cutting) to the brittle deformation (micro fracturing) in the scratch groove was observed with the increase of the crystallinity.

The study of methyl viologen ($MV^{2+}$) mediated oxygen reduction in electrolytic ethanol media possesses potential application in the electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide mainly due to the advantages of the much increased solubility of molecular oxygen ($O_2$) and high degree of reversibility of $MV^{2+/{\bullet}+}$ redox couple. The diffusion coefficients of both $MV^{2+}$ and $O_2$ were investigated via electrochemical techniques. For the first time, $MV^{2+}$ mediated $O_2$ reduction in electrolytic ethanol solution has been proved to be feasible on both boron-doped diamond and micro-carbon disc electrodes. The electrocatalytic response is demonstrated to be due to the radical cation, $MV^{{\bullet}+}$. The homogeneous electron transfer step is suggested to be the rate determining step with a rate constant of $(1{\pm}0.1){\times}10^5M^{-1}s^{-1}$. With the aid of a simulation program describing the EC' mechanism, by increasing the concentration ratio of $MV^{2+}$ to $O_2$ electrochemical catalysis can be switched from a partial to a 'total catalysis' regime.
A finite element model for polarization switching in electro-mechanically coupled materials is proposed and applied to predict the switching behavior of a two-dimensional ferroelectric ceramic. A complicated micro-structure existing in the material is modeled as il continuum body and a simple 3 node triangle finite element with nodal displacement and voltage degrees of freedom is used for a finite element analysis. The elements use nonlinear constitutive equations, switching criterion and kinetic relation, fur representation of material response at strong electric and stress fields. The polarization state of the material is represented by internal variables in each element, which are updated at each simulation step based on the proposed constitutive equations. The model reproduces strain and electric displacement hysteresis loops observed in the material.
The study on the high-speed machine tool is very important for the improvement of productivity since it can shortens cutting and non-cutting time. Especially, high speed of feed drive system is the major research field. In the industries of the advanced countries, the feed drive systems at the speed of 60 m/min have been already developed based on the high lead ball screws. In this study, a high speed feed drive system at the speed of 60 m/ min has been developed, and its movements characteris-tics are investigated. As the movement characteristics, positioning accuracy, angular accuracy, straightness and micro step-response are measured. Thermal characteristics of the system is also discussed. For measuring the movement characteris-tics, a laser interferometer, a memory-based Hi-coder and a cooling device are used. The experimental results confirm that the movement characteristics and the thermal behavior of the system are satisfactory in the aspect of accuracy and stability.
For compensating the error motion of hydrostatic guideways, the structure and the theoretical design method of ACC(Active Controlled Capillary) are proposed. The maximum controllable range, micro step response and dynamic characteristics of ACC are analyzed experimentally for verifing the availability. The experimental results showed that by the use of ACC, the error motion within 2.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of a hydrostatic guideway can be compensated with the resolution of 27nm, 1/100 of uncontolled error, and the frequency band of 5.5Hz. From these results, it Is confirmed that the ACC is very effect to improve the moving accuracy of high or ultra precision hydrostatic guideways.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare microRNA (miRNA) gene expression in saliva using miRNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) arrays in healthy and aggressive periodontitis (AP) patients. Methods: PCR arrays of 84 miRNAs related to the human inflammatory response and autoimmunity from the saliva samples of 4 patients with AP and 4 healthy controls were performed. The functions and diseases related to the miRNAs were obtained using TAM 2.0. Experimentally validated targets of differentially expressed miRNAs were obtained from mirTarBase. Gene ontology terms and pathways were analyzed using ConsensusPathDB. Results: Four downregulated miRNAs (hsa-let-7a-5p, hsa-let-7f-5p, hsa-miR-181b-5p, and hsa-miR-23b-3p) were identified in patients with AP. These miRNAs are associated with cell death and innate immunity, and they target genes associated with osteoclast development and function. Conclusions: This study is the first analysis of miRNAs in the saliva of patients with AP. Identifying discriminatory human salivary miRNA biomarkers reflective of periodontal disease in a non-invasive screening assay is crucial for the development of salivary diagnostics. These data provide a first step towards the discovery of key salivary miRNA biomarkers for AP.

To compensate for the motion errors in hydrostatic tables, a method to actively control the clearance of a bearing corresponding to the amount of error using actively controlled capillaries is introduced in this paper. The design method for an actively controlled capillary that considers the output rate of a piezo actuator and the amount of error that must be corrected is described. The basic characteristics of such a system were tested, such as the maximum controllable range of the error, micro-step response, and available dynamic bandwidth when the capillary was installed in a hydrostatic table. The tests demonstrated that the maximum controllable range was $2.4\;{\mu}m$, the resolution was 27 nm, and the frequency bandwidth was 5.5 Hz. Simultaneous compensation of the linear and angular motion errors using two actively controlled capillaries was also performed for a hydrostatic table driven by a ballscrew and a DC servomotor. An iterative compensation method was applied to improve the compensation characteristics. Experimental results showed that the linear and angular motion errors were improved to $0.12{\mu}m$ and 0.20 arcsec, which were about $1/15^{th}$ and $1/6^{th}$ of the initial motion errors, respectively. These results confirmed that the proposed compensation method improves the motion accuracy of hydrostatic tables very effectively.
Electrically conductive polypyrrole-polyvinylpyrrolidone (PPy-PVP) nanofiber mats with a core-shell structure have been successfully fabricated by a two-step process: the formation of FeCl3-containing PVP nanofiber mat by electrospinning, and the vapor-phase polymerization (VPP) of pyrrole monomer on the mat in a sealed chamber at room temperature. Surface morphology and chemical composition of the PPy-PVP mat were characterized by SEM, EDX and FTIR analyses. The as-prepared nonwoven mat was composed of PPy-PVP nanofibers with an average diameter of 300 nm. The sheet conductivity of the nanofiber mat was measured to be approximately 0.01 S/cm by a four-point probe. We have also investigated gas-sensing properties of PPy-PVP nanofiber mat upon exposure to methanol vapor. The PPy-PVP nanofiber sensors were observed to have excellent methanol-sensing performance. The nanofiber-based core-shell nanostructure could give an opportunity to fabricate a highly sensitive and fast response sensor due to its high surfaceto-volume ratio.
