  • In this work, we describe the synthesis and infrared light reflecting characteristics of $TiO_2$/mica hybrid composites. $TiO_2$/mica composite materials were obtained by the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of titanium isopropoxide in an aqueous solution of acetic acid in the presence of mica particles. Amorphous phase of $TiO_2$ on the surface of mica was converted to the crystalline rutile phase via anatase phase by heat treatment ($600-1000^{\circ}C$, 1-3 h) of $TiO_2$/mica composite materials, and the size of crystals was controlled by heat treatment conditions. Physicochemical properties of mica and $TiO_2$/mica composites were investigated using FE-SEM, ED-XRF, and PXRD. The solar reflectance of $TiO_2$/mica composites in the near IR region (780~2,500 nm) measured using a diffuse reflectance NIR spectrophotometer was 88.6%, which is rather higher than that of calcined pure mica (86.6%). Therefore, $TiO_2$/mica composites can be used as NIR light reflective pigments.

  • The metamorphic environments occrrred in the Sadong and the Gobangsan formations were studied through the investigation of chloritoid and white mica in shales at Munkyung area. Two types of white mica occurs in the shale of Sadong formation; muscovite-dominant ($Mu_{76.1}Pa_{18.1}Ma_{5.8}$) and margarite-dominant ($Ma_{52.9}Mu_{31.6}Pa_{15.5}$). It is inferred that the muscovite-dominant white mica is generated by the diagenesis of Na-rich illite whereas the margarite-dominant white mica is generated by reactions between calcite and pyrophyllite separated from illite. In shales of the Gobangsan formation, chloritoids are observed with muscovite, pyrophyllite and chlorite. The chloritoids of the Gobangsan formation are considered to be originated from the reaction between pyrophyllite and chlorite. The Sadong and Gobangsan formations would have experienced the low-temperature metamorphism (anchizone) considering that white mica in general forms above the temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ and the assemblage of chloritoid-pyrophyllite-chlorite is stabilized below $280^{\circ}C$.

  • A mica has been introduced as a new substrate material for the fabrication of the poly-Si TFTs. A poly-Si film is produced on the mica substrate at $550^{\circ}C$ by the nickel-induced crystallization and the poly-Si TFTs on the mica substrate are successfully fabricated for the first time.

  • $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on a mica or $TiO_2$/mica surface as infrared reflective blue pigment was prepared by a hydrothermal method. $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$, used as coloring agent, was uniformly coated on mica or $TiO_2$/mica under the optimized condition of a 1.2 : 1 weight ratio between iron(III) chloride hexahydrate and potassium ferrocyanidetrihydrate at the initial pH level of 4.5 at $70^{\circ}C$. The infrared (IR)-reflective pigments were characterized by SEM, Zeta-potenial, FT-IR, and UV-VIS NIR spectrophotometry. Especially the CIE color coordinate and total solar reflectance(TSR) properties of the pigments were investigated in relation to variation of the coating and coated substrate thicknesses. Isolation-heat paint was prepared with 20 wt% blue pigments fully dispersed in acryl-urethane resin and several additives to coat the film uniformly. The films were also measured with CIE color coordinate, TSR, and the surface temperature was recorded by an isolation-heat measuring system. The pigments and films of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on mica and $TiO_2$/mica showed high TSR values compared with the TSR value of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ itself. According to the increase of TSR value, the property of isolation-heat is effective. To realize the optimal blue color, we applied the the pigment to $TiO_2$ coated mica(TM(b)) which has blueish interference color. The pigment of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on TM(b) shows a strong blue color compared with that of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on $TiO_2$/Mmca(TM(w)), which has a whitish interference color.

  • A 50% reduction of convergence errors of CRT's is achieved by a technique referred to as 'Magnetically Improved Color Alignment' or MICA for short. The MICA technology comprises a ring of synthetic material (polymer) filled with ferrite particles. MICA is meant for repairing CRT's, which are out of convergence specification. The repairing occurs by writing a magnetic correction profile in the ring.

  • Dielectric and Mechanical Properties of Mica flake/ Epoxy Composite are investigated. The Mica content is about 50 wt % and its thickness is about $240{\mu}m$. The finished Mica flake/Epoxy Composite contains about 0.1-1.0 wt % of aminosilane coupling agent. Ruby Mica filler and high temperature curing Epoxy resin are used. From the viewpoint of dielectric and mechanical properities. the optimum properties is obtained for the sample post cured at $130^{\circ}C$ for 5 h ours after curing at $80^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours and with 0.5 weight % silane coupling agent.

  • In this study, epoxy/mica composite was prepared by mixing with mechanical stirrer together with homogenizer, and the effect of amino-type silane coupling agent was also studied. To reduce the viscosity without any decrement of other properties, 1,4-Butanediol diglycidyl ether (1,4-BDGE) as an aliphatic epoxy reactive diluent was introduced to the epoxy/mica composite in order to use as vanish for high voltage motor and generator stator winding. It was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation that interfacial characteristics between organic epoxy and inorganic mica was modified by coupling agent treatment so that glass transition temperature increased, and tensile strength and electrical breakdown strength increased. The properties were estimated by Weibull statistical analysis and the ac electrical breakdown strength was 20.2% modified by treating silane coupling agent.

  • In this study, large-current (75 - 400 A), high-voltage (500 - 1000 $V_{rms}$), reliable capacitors with capacitances (C) of 100 - 1000 nF were developed for energy storage facility applications. Mica was used as the dielectric of the capacitors. In order to form a parallel stack of a capacitor element, 50 ${\mu}m$ thick mica sheets with a size of $30mm{\times}35mm$ were used with lead foils for the plate lead type of mica capacitors (HCM-L), while the same sizes of mica sheets coated by Ag paste were employed with lead foils for the parallel plate terminal type (HCM-C). The developed capacitors exhibited well behaviored device characteristics which meet the requirements of the capacitors. The developed capacitors also showed excellent characteristics for thermal shock test. The stability characteristics of developed capacitors for large current stress was superior to those measured for the capacitors prepared recently by CDETm.

  • To be design the slope, the area distributed the shale or mica schist which was metamorphosed by shale must carefully consider the stability. The shale has the detrital materials of which the grain size are 1/256mm and fissility. As the reason the slope of shale is always unstable by bedding slip and fissility but also the joint and fault. Mica schist is also another unstable rock for slope by schistosity, cleavage, axial plane of a fold etc. In general shale and mica schist contain the swelling clay minerals such as smectite, vermiculite and montmorillonite. These minerals make the slope unstable. At OO tunnel construction area for the rail way of the Kyungbu high speed train, the slope of mica schist is very unstable by the distribution phenomena of the discontinuous plane such as joints which are 1-5cm spacing and thrust and strike-slip fault. By the drilling core of this area, most RQD have 0-20%.
