  • The stress relaxation of poly(methyl acrylate)-poly(acrylonitrile) copolymer samples was carried out in air, distilled water, pH 3, 7 and 11 solutions at various temperatures using a tensile tester equipped with a solvent chamber. The relaxation spectra of poly(methyl acrylate)-poly(acrylonitrile) copolymers were obtained by applying the experimental stress relaxation curves to the equation of relaxation spectrum derived from the Ree-Eyring and Maxwell model. The determination of relaxation spectra was performed from computer calculation using a Laplace transform method. It was observed that the relaxation spectra of these samples are directly related to the distribution of molecular weights and self-diffusions of flow segments.

  • Dispersion polymerization of methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and glycidyl methacrylate were performed in supercritical $CO_2$ at $80\;^{\circ}C$ and 346 bar. Glycidyl methacrylate linked poly(dimethylsiloxane) (GMS-PDMS) surfactant, which was prepared by linking glycidyl methacrylate to monoglycidyl ether terminated PDMS with amino-propyltriethoxysilane, was used as surfactant for the dispersion polymerization in $CO_2$. The yield of the poly(alkyl acrylate) polymers, synthesized in $CO_2$ medium, decreased as the alkyl tail of the acrylate monomers increased. Poly(glycidyl methacrylate) and poly(methyl acrylate) were produced in bead form whereas poly(ethyl acrylate) and poly(butyl acrylate) were viscous liquid. The poly(glycidyl methacrylate) particles had a number average diameter of 2.45 ${\mu}m$ and monodisperse distribution. The poly(methyl acrylate) had a number average diameter of 0.52 ${\mu}m$ and the particle size distribution was bimodal. The glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of the poly(glycidyl methacrylate) and the poly(alkyl acrylate) products were 4~9 K higher than the $T_g$ of the corresponding acrylate polymers synthesized in conventional processes.

  • The rheological parameters of poly(methyl acrylate)-poly(acrylonitrile) copolymers were obtained by applying the experimental stress relaxation curves to the theoretical equation of the Eyring-Halsey non-Newtonian model. The experimentals of stress relaxation were carried out using the tensile tester with the solvent chamber. The determination of rheological parameters was performed from computer calculation. It was observed that the rheological parameters of these copolymer samples are directly related to the self diffusions and viscosities and activation energies of flow segments.

  • In this study, (3,4-epoxycyclohexane)methyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexylcarboxylate acrylate was synthesized by reacting (3,4-epoxycyclohexane)methyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexylcarboxylate with acrylic acid to minimize hardening shrinkage and to improve heat resistance, which are known as disadvantages of photopolymers for 3D printing application. Urethane acrylate was synthesized by reacting 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamino alcohol, 2-hexylethyl acrylate, and isophorone diisocyanate in order to improve the mechanical properties without deteriorating the heat resistance. The physical properties before and after the synthesis of the acrylate and the mechanical properties when the urethane acrylate was applied were investigated. The reaction progress of the composite was examined by FTIR and $^{13}C$ NMR. The heat deflection temperature, flexural strength, and surface hardness of the molding were measured. The curing behavior by Photo-DSC ultraviolet irradiation was also examined.

  • Methyl fructoside acrylate and methacrylate were synthesized by lipase-catalyzed glycosylation of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and vinyl methacrylate with ${\beta}$-methyl fructoside in t-butanol as a reaction medium. From the optimum conditions of enzymatic synthesis for acrylate and methacrylate, we obtained 78% conversion for methyl fructoside acrylate and 93% conversion for methyl fructoside methacrylate. The polymerizable sugar acrylates have potential application as biomedical polymer such as hodrogel contact lens.

  • The waterborne acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive in the basis of butylacylate (BA) and 2-Ethylhexylacrylate (2-EHA) was synthesized and the methyl methacrylate (MMA) have been used to give the rigidity perfroamce. The polymreric latex was synthesized using butyl acrylate (BA), 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA), methyl methacrylate (MMA) and each 1, 2, 3% of various functional monomers. The dimethyl-2-imidazlidon acrylate and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate was used in order to increase the wetting properties of acrylic emulsion. To study of properties of functional monomer, The polymreric latex was synthesized various functional monomers each 1, 2, 3%. The 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate showed the best properties. Latex with acrylic acid and dimethyl-2-imidazlidon acrylate had good peel strength, holding power, but it showed that they didn't separate from adhered cleanly by weak cohesion strength. The adhesion performance was increased by increasing amount of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate however latexes with upper 7% 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate showed that the properties of PSA decreased.

  • Monodisperse composite latex particles with size of ca. 300 nm, which consist ofn-butyl acrylate as a soft phase and methyl methacrylate as a hard phase with different morphology, were synthesized by seeded multi-stage emulsion polymerization. Three types of composite latex particles including random-, core/shell-, and gradient-type particles were obtained by using different monomer feeding methods during semi-batch emulsion polymerization. Effect of poly(butyl acrylate)-poly(methyl methacrylate) rubber particle morphology on the mechanical and rheological properties of rubber toughened poly(methyl methacrylate) was investigated. Among three different rubber particles, the gradient-type rubber particle showed better toughening effect than others. No significant variation of rheological property of poly(methyl methacrylate)/rubber blends was observed for the different rubber particle morphology.

  • Vinyl acetate/alkyl acrylate copolymers were prepared by water-born emulsion copolymerization according to the compositional change of vinyl acetate and various alkyl acrylates such as methyl acrylate (MA), ethyl acrylate (EA), and n-butyl acrylate (BA). Ammonium persulfate (APS) was used as an initiator and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was used as a protective colloid. The significant result was described as follows. The activation energy determined by an isothermal analysis in the temperature region between $100{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ of the copolymer had the order of PVAc/PMA > PVAc/PEA > PVAc/PBA. The peel strengths before and after the plasma treatment were the order of PVAc/PMA > PVAc/PEA > PVAc/PBA.

  • The crystallization behavior of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) /ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (E-MeA-GMA) blend was studied. The extent of reaction and the reaction rate between PET and E-MeA-GMA were measured with torque rheometer, FT-IR and SEM. The effects of the grafting reaction on the crystallization behavior were investigated with DSC and time-resolved light scattering (TR-LS) techniques. The morphological change at the lamellar level was also examined by using a small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method.
