Metaverse technology, heralded as the fourth major innovation in computing following personal computers, the internet, and mobile devices, has realized a three-dimensional virtual world where communication with others as well as social, cultural, and economic activities of the real world can take place. While platforms like Zepeto, launched in 2018, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released in 2020, initially became popular among younger generations, concerns about declining investment and usage rates of the metaverse have become apparent since 2023. This study examines the impact of metaverse users' sense of presence on their immersion and intention to continue using these platforms.
The purpose of this study is to empirically identify the process of technology acceptance of the metaverse, a virtual world-based platform that has attracted attention due to the 4th industrial revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic. The technology acceptance model (TAM) was used to identify factors affecting the use of the metaverse platforms and to analyze the causal relationship among these factors. For research, a survey was conducted on ordinary adult men and women and was analyzed using a structural equation model. The study found that perceived pleasure, interactivity, self-efficacy, and social influence had a positive effect on perceived ease-of-use. Interactivity and social influence had a statistically significant effect on perceived usefulness. The relationship between perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness was not statistically significant, but both perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness had a significant effect on positively forming attitudes toward metaverse. Lastly, favorable attitudes toward the metaverse platform had a positive effect on the intention to continue using it. Through this study, it was possible to identify the factors affecting the intention to use the metaverse and to confirm the causal relationship between the factors. A deeper understanding of users may be obtained in future if the research subject can be expanded and investigated with various factors.

COVID-19 has radically changed the behavior of members of society for exchange. In particular, the strong contagiousness of the virus is increasing networking on online platforms while reducing people's networking in the real world. Recently, the metaverse, which strengthened the presence based on 3D technology, is attracting attention from members of society such as individuals and companies. We present a method to improve metaverse utilization from the perspective of organizations and employees who have introduced metaverse for work. In other words, we check the effect of metaverse social function and telepresence on the employee's intention to offer support by improving the trust of the metaverse participants. We obtained samples through questionnaires targeting employees of organizations that introduced metaverse to their work, and verified the research hypothesis by applying the structural equation model. As a result, social interactivity, reciprocal favor, and telepresence of metaverse partially affected metaverse trust (platform, peer, organization), and metaverse trust increased the intention to offer support. Our study suggests a strategic direction to improve the metaverse utilization and exchange level of employees of organizations who want to use the metaverse for business.
Metaverse is one of the most frequently used words recently, with digitalization accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic that started in 2019 and the development of information and communication technology. It is expected to bring a new revolution in our life as a whole in user experience. In particular, as telecommuting was adopted in the business area, interest in virtual office services such as digital video conferencing and remote offices, which are similar to the metaverse, has also increased. In this study, a study on the intention to use the metaverse service used in the work environment was applied to the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2(UTAUT2). External variables for metaverse characteristics, such as self-presentation, telepresence, and technostress, were analyzed and discussed. In this study, PC-based Gather.town and VR-based Facebook Horizon, currently the most well-known and considered usable in work environments, were introduced to potential users and conducted a survey. This study has academic implications in that the research has examined the factors that affect the technology acceptance intention of users who want to apply the metaverse as a work environment based on the UTAUT2 model, unlike previous studies that have been mainly researched on the general metaverse. In practice, it may be helpful to suggest factors that should be considered when firms adopt the metaverse for business purposes.
As the 4th industrial revolution progresses, new technologies and services are being born, growing, and maturing. Now, beyond the mobile era, the metaverse is being discussed as a new paradigm. Therefore, in this study, in preparation for the metaverse era, we tried to analyze what factors have an important influence when consumers want to use new technologies. In particular, the research was conducted focusing on how the context in which consumers use the technology changes depending on whether they are B2C or B2B. For this, augmented reality (AR) was selected in the B2C context by linking the research subject with the metaverse era, and the smart factory was selected in the B2B context. The research model for the analysis was established by deriving and setting common influence variables by reflecting the characteristics of the research target technology based on the modified extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology. A survey was conducted for empirical analysis, and 150 AR and 150 smart factory subjects were analyzed. The empirical study results are as follows. The relationship between performance expectancy and intention to use, technology readiness and intention to use was found to have a significant positive (+) effect on both AR and smart factory. On the other hand, it was found that effort expectancy, social influence, and trust had a positive (+) effect on intention to use only in AR. Only in smart factory, facilitating conditions had a significant positive (+) effect on intention to use. It was also found that the perceived risk had a significant negative (-) effect on the intention to use only in the smart factory. The results of this study are academically significant in that we empirically test that influencing factors of technology use varies depending on the context in which it is used by consumers. In practice, it provided an implication of what to focus on first is being implemented.
The purpose of this study is to explore how citizens perceive application of the metaverse platforms for city marketing and investigate factors that affect overall attitude for citizen relationship management in the public sector. In particular, this study investigates the following: i) how factors including perceived city brand value, public service, emotional value, experience, personalization, economic value, social value, and cultural value on overall attitude and ii) how overall attitude affects intention to use of metaverse for the public sector and citizen satisfaction. This study conducted an online survey with the assistance of a well-known research firm. This study applied factor, ANOVA, and regression analysis to test hypotheses. The results found that effects of perceived city brand value, emotional value, information, economic value, social value, and cultural value on overall attitude toward metaverse application for the public sector showed significance. The results provide managerial and policy implications for the public sector on how to apply metaverse to provide public services and enhance engagement with citizens. The results also provide implications which aspects should be considered to enhance citizen relationship management and to build the better city brand value by applying metaverse.

Using the extended technology acceptance model, this study aims to quantitatively analyze the user experience with the . In the case of Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use, only limited detailed factors have significant impacts on the degree of satisfaction. The degree of satisfaction has positive correlations with the degree of immersion and the variables of Behavioral Intention to Use Metaverse. Although sophisticatedly remediates using digital technology to provide visitors with the sameness of exhibits, exhibition circulation and interaction method, the metaverse exhibition does not acquire the same value of the exhibition. In conclusion, cannot replace , however, it has the potential to offer learning usefulness to visitors with low accessibility to the art museum.
With the development of information technology, new technologies to be introduced in each industry are continuously increasing. This study aims to verify the influence of ambivalent emotions experienced when encountering new technologies, the coping strategies they induce, and their impact on the decision-making process of technology adoption Specifically, this research investigates the emotions and responses to new technologies in the situational context where service providers must deliver services based on new technology in environments where no such services have been developed previously. Furthermore, it seeks to verify the influence of coping responses on the intention to use services based on new technologies. To this end, this study investigated the ambivalent emotions and coping responses of financial sector workers to new financial services based on metaverse technology. As a result of the analysis ambivalance had a significant effect on all four coping responses (disengagement-oriented coping, denial, indecision and compromise). Among them, denial, which is an inflexible response, and compromise, which is a flexible response, had a significant positive effect on the intention to use, and disengagement-oriented coping and indecision had a significant negative effect on the intention to use. The results of this study confirm the user's metaverse acceptance factor and user-centered influence, and are expected to provide guidelines for the introduction of services to practical workers with academic significance.
The metaverse is a virtual world where individuals engage in social, economic, and cultural activities using avatars, which represent an alternate version of oneself within the virtual realm. While the metaverse has garnered global attention recently, research exploring the identity manifested through avatars within the metaverse remains limited. This study investigates the influence of four IT artifact characteristics related to avatar usage in the metaverse-avatar representation, avatar copresence, avatar profiling, and avatar-space interaction-on perceived avatar identity verification. A survey was conducted with 196 experienced users of the Zepeto platform, and hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. The analysis results indicate that the use of IT artifacts enabling avatar representation, avatar copresence, and avatar-space interaction has a positive impact on perceived avatar identity verification. This achieved self-verification indirectly influences the satisfaction and subsequent intention to continue using the metaverse. This study contributes to the academic field by empirically verifying the metaverse technological factors that influence the projected identity onto avatars within the metaverse. Furthermore, it is expected to provide effective guidelines for metaverse platform companies in designing and implementing the metaverse.
This study empirically examined the influence of motivation for using the metaverse virtual community Ifland on satisfaction and intention to continue usage, as well as the moderating effect of innovativeness. Specifically, the study identified the motivations for using Ifland among its users and analyzed their relationships with satisfaction and intention to continue usage. For this purpose, a survey was conducted targeting 303 university students who had experience using Ifland. The results of the study are as follows: Firstly, the motivations for using Ifland were identified as entertainment and relaxation, information-seeking, social interaction, and self-expression motives. All of these motivations were found to have a significant impact on user satisfaction. Secondly, satisfaction with Ifland was found to influence intention to continue usage. Thirdly, innovativeness was found to moderate the relationship between entertainment and relaxation motives and satisfaction, and it was confirmed to play a moderating role between satisfaction and intention to continue usage.
