  • Various metal ions (transition and base metals) incorporated MCM-41 catalysts can be synthesized using colloidal and soluble silica with non-sodium involved process. Transition metal ion-typically $V^{5+}$, $Co^{2+}$, and $Ni^{2+}$-incorporated MCM-41 catalysts were synthesized by isomorphous substitution of Si ions in the framework. Each incorporated metal ion created a single species in the silica framework, single-site solid catalyst, showing a substantial stability in reduction and catalytic activity. Radius of pore curvature effect was investigated with Co-MCM-41 by temperature programmed reduction (TPR). The size of metallic Co clusters, sub-nanometer, could be controlled by a proper reduction treatment of Co-MCM-41 having different pore size and the initial pH adjustment of the Co-MCM-41 synthesis solution. These small metallic clusters showed a high stability under a harsh reaction condition without serious migration, resulting from a direct anchoring of small metallic clusters to the partially or unreduced metal ions on the surface. After a complete reduction, partial occlusion of the metallic cluster surface by amorphous silica stabilized the particles against aggregations. As a probe reaction of particle size sensitivity, carbon single wall nanotubes (SWNT) were synthesized using Co-MCM-41. A metallic cluster stability test was performed by CO methanation using Co- and Ni-MCM-41. Methanol and methane partial oxidations were carried out with V-MCM-41, and the radius of pore curvature effect on the catalytic activity was investigated.

  • For the success of complete denture, three essential requirements such as retention, stability and support are needed. Moreover, due to the absorption of residual ridge and scarring due to the surgery, when making a complete denture, which is difficult to form the mandibular lingual margins, various considerations such as the arrangement of the Non-anatomical dl non-anatomical teeth, the polished surface impression, the internally weighted metal framework and the use of the denture adhesive cream are necessary. In this case report, the patient has a severely resorbed edentulous ridge from severe periodontitis and has some soft tissue problems after the glossectomy due to tongue cancer. To obtain additional retention and stability, some trials such as polished surface impression taking, internally weighted metal insertion and minimal pressure impression were done for the better result. Moreover To make a metal framework that precisely shapes the desired three-dimensional shape and reduces the complicated process, minimal pressure impression method and direct metal laser sintering technique were used.

  • This manuscript presents impacts of gradation of material functions and axial load functions on critical buckling loads and mode shapes of functionally graded (FG) thin and thick beams by using higher order shear deformation theory, for the first time. Volume fractions of metal and ceramic materials are assumed to be distributed through a beam thickness by both sigmoid law and symmetric power functions. Ceramic-metal-ceramic (CMC) and metal-ceramic-metal (MCM) symmetric distributions are proposed relative to mid-plane of the beam structure. The axial compressive load is depicted by constant, linear, and parabolic continuous functions through the axial direction. The equilibrium governing equations are derived by using Hamilton's principles. Numerical differential quadrature method (DQM) is developed to discretize the spatial domain and covert the governing variable coefficients differential equations and boundary conditions to system of algebraic equations. Algebraic equations are formed as a generalized matrix eigenvalue problem, that will be solved to get eigenvalues (buckling loads) and eigenvectors (mode shapes). The proposed model is verified with respectable published work. Numerical results depict influences of gradation function, gradation parameter, axial load function, slenderness ratio and boundary conditions on critical buckling loads and mode-shapes of FG beam structure. It is found that gradation types have different effects on the critical buckling. The proposed model can be effective in analysis and design of structure beam element subject to distributed axial compressive load, such as, spacecraft, nuclear structure, and naval structure.

  • Selective catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by methane in the presence of excess oxygen was investigated over copper and cobalt ion-exchanged ZSM-5 zeolites. Copper ion-exchanged ZSM-5(Cu-ZSM-5) has the limitations for commercial applications to lean-bum gasoline and diesel engines due to low thermal stability and resistance to water vapor and sulfur dioxide. But cobalt ion-exchanged ESM-5(Co-ZSM-5) is more active at high temperatures and also stable to water vapor and sulfur dioxide for catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by methane. The catalytic activity of Cu-ZSM-5 for NO reduction increases with increasing temperatures, reaches the maximum conversion of 23.0% at 350\"C. and then decreases with higher temperatures. In the meantime catalytic activities of Co-ZSM-5 show the maximum conversion of 25.8% at $500^{\circ}C$ Therefore Co-ZSM-5 catalysts have higher thermal stability at high temperatures. Catalytic activities of both zeolites were remarkably enhanced with the existence of oxygen in the exhaust. It is noted that the catalytic activity of Cu-ZSM-5 decreases with the increasing concentration of methane while the catalytic activity of Co-ZSM-5 decreases with increasing contents of methane in the exhaust. This may imply the existence of different paths of NO reduction by methane in the presence of excess oxygen fur Cu-ZSM-5 and Co-ZSM-5 catalysts. For binary metal ionexchanged ZSM-5, the primary ion-exchanged metal may be masked by secondary ion-exchanged component, which plays the important role for catalytic activities of binary metal ion-exchanged ZSM-5, Therefore CuCo-ZSM-5 catalysts show the similar volcano-shaped curves to Cu-ZSM-5 catalysts between the activity and temperature. It Is interesting that the activities of CoCu-ZSM-5 catalysts indicate almost no dependence on the concentration of methane in the exhaust.aust.

  • Statement of problem. Acrylic resin is most commonly used for denture bases. However, acrylic resin has week points of volumetric shrinkage during polymerization that reduces denture fit. The expandability of POSS (Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane) containing polymer could be expected to reduce the polymerization shrinkage of denture bases and would increase the adaptability of the denture to the tissue. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to compare the dimensional stability in the conventional acrylic resin base, POSS-containing acrylic resin base, and metal bases. Materials and methods. Thirty six maxillary edentulous casts and dentures of different base were fabricated. Tooth movement and tissue contour change of denture after processing (resin curing, deflasking, decasting and finishing without polishing) and immersion in artificial saliva at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 week and 4 weeks were measured using digital measuring microscope and threedimensional laser scanner. Results. The results were as follows: 1. The conventional resin group showed significant (p<0.01) dimensional change throughout the procedure (processing and immersion in artificial saliva). 2. After processing, the metal group and POSS resin group showed lower linear and 3-dimensional change than conventional resin group (p<0.01). 3. There was no statistically significant linear and 3-dimensional change after immersion for 1 week and 4 weeks in metal and POSS resin group. 4. In all groups, the midline and alveolar ridge crest area presented smaller 3-dimensional change compared with vestibule and posterior palatal seal area after processing and soaking in artificial saliva for 1 week and 4 weeks (p<0.01). Conclusion. In this study, a reinforced acrylic-based resin with POSS showed good dimensional stability.

  • The pigments of acetylshikonin and isobutylshikonin isolated from the roots of Lithospermum erythrorhizon were determined over a period of storage for their stabilities influenced by temperatures and metal ions. In dark condition, both pigment solution were unstable at 488 and 560 nm; alcoholic solutions of acetylshikonin pigment were stable at $25^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, but isobutylshikonin showed severe discoloration within 1 hour at $95^{\circ}C$ . Buffered solutions of acetylshikonin tended to be discolored with the addition of $Fe^{++}$, while those of isobutylshikonin with $Fe^{++}$ and $Cu^{++}$. These studies indicated that acetylshikonin and isobutylshikonin can be used in foods as the natural colorant under selected conditions in case of considering storage temperature and metal ions.

  • Hydrogels have gained considerable attention in various fields due to their easily transformative ability by different stimulation. In addition, metal-based conductive additives can enable the hydrogels to be conductive with dimension change. Although the development of the additives offered enhanced electrical properties to the hydrogels, correspondingly enhanced mechanical properties may limit the volume and electrical properties switching after stimulation. Here we prepared poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) thermo-responsive hydrogel that has a 32℃ of low critical solution temperature and added liquid metal particles (LMPs) as conductive additives, possessing soft and stretchable benefits. The LMPs enabled PNIPAM (PNIPAM/LMPs) hydrogels to be constricted over 32℃ with a high volume switching ratio of 15.2 when deswelled. Once the LMPs are spontaneously oxidized in hydrogel culture, the LMPs can release gallium ions into the hydrogel nature. The released gallium ions and oxidized LMPs enhanced the modulus of the PNIPAM/LMPs hydrogel, triggering high mechanical stability during repeated swelling/deswelling behavior. Lastly, highly constricted PNIPAM/LMPs hydrogel provided a 5x106 of electrical switching after deswelling, and the switching ratio was closely maintained after repeated swelling/deswelling transformation. This study opens up opportunities for hydrogel use requiring thermo-responsive and high electrical switching fields.

  • Macrocyclic ligand has been known to selectively bind with metal ions so that ability applied for the transport of metal ions across the emulsion liquid membrane in this study. The metal ions are transproted from the source phase to the receiving phase by the carrier of the organic phase. Several factors involved in the transport of metal ions acrose the emulsion membrane we reported here and these factors provided the informations for the selective seperation of some metal ion. Stability constants for cation-macrocyclic ligand and metal ion-anion receiving phase interaction are examined as parameters for the prediction of metal ion transport selectivities. $Pb^{2+}$ was transported higher rates than the other metal ions in the mixture solution. The interaction of metal ion to anion in receiving phase is important. $S_2O_3^{2-}$- in replacement of $NO_3^-$ in the receiving phase enhances the transport of $Pb^{2-}$since $Pb^{2-}-S_2O_3^{2-}$interaction is greater than $Pb^{2+}-NO_3^-$ interaction.

  • Hydrochloric acid salt of a new $N_2O_3$ pentadentate ligand, N,N'-Bis(2-Hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-diamino-2-propanol(H-BHDP 2HCl) was synthesized. Br-BHDP 2HCl, CI-BHDP 2HCl, $CH_3-BHDP$ 2HCl and $CH_3O$-BHDP 2HCl having Br, Cl, $CH_3$ and $CH_3O$ substituents at 5-position of the phenol group of H-BHDP 2HCl were also synthesized. The potentiometry study in aqueous solution revealed that the proton dissociations of the synthesized ligands occurred in four steps and their order of the calculated overall proton dissociation constants($log{\beta}_p$) was Br-BHDP < Cl-BHDP < H-BHDP < $CH_3O-BHDP$ < $CH_3-BHDP$. The order showed a similar trend to that of Hammett substituent constants(${\delta}_p$). The order of the stability constants($logK_{ML}$) was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) < Zn(II) < Cd(II) < Pb(II). The order in their stability constants ($logK_{ML}$) of each transition metal complex agreed with that of the overall proton dissociation constants ($log{\beta}_p$).

  • In this study, the stability analyses for metal mine roadways at a great depth were performed. In-situ stress measurements using hydrofracturing, numerous laboratory tests for rock cores and GSI & RMR classifications were conducted in order to find the physical properties of both intact rock and in-situ rock mass distributed in the studied metal mine. Through the scenario analysis and probabilistic assessment on the results of rock mass classification, the in-situ ground conditions of mine roadways were divided into the best, the average and the worst cases, respectively. The roadway stabilities corresponding to the respective conditions were assessed by way of the elasto-plastic analysis. In addition, the appropriate roadway shapes and the support patterns were examined through the numerical analyses considering the blast damaged zone around roadway. It was finally shown to be necessary to reduce the radius of roadway roof curvature and/or to install the crown reinforcement in order to enhance the stability of studied mine roadways.
