Graphene has recently been a subject of much interest as a potential platform for future nanodevices such as flexible thin-film transistors, touch panels, and solar cells. And chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and related surface segregation techniques are a potentially scalable approach to synthesizing graphite films on a variety of metal substrates. The structural properties of such films have been studied by a number of methods, including Raman scattering, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). An understanding of the structural quality and thickness of the graphite films is of paramount importance both in improving growth procedures and understanding the resulting films' electronic properties. In this study, we synthesized the few-layered grapheneunder optimized condition to figure out the growth mechanism seen in CVD-grown graphenee by using various electron microscope. Especially, we observed directly film thickness, quality, nucleation site, and uniformity of grpahene by using AEM. The details will be discussed in my presentation.

Superhydrophobic surfaces on alloyed steels were fabricated with a non-conventional method of plasma etching and subsequent water immersion procedure. High aspect ratio nanopatterns of nanoflake or nano-needle were created on the steels with various Cr content in its composition. With CF4 plasma treatment in radio-frequence chemical vapor deposition (r.-f. CVD) method, steel surfaces were etched and fluorinated by CF4 plasma, which induced the nanopattern evolution through the water immersion process. It was found that fluorine ion played a role as a catalyst to form nanopatterns in water elucidated with XPS and TEM analysis. The hierarchical patterns in micro- and nano scale leads to superhydrophobic properties on the surfaces by deposition of a hydrophobic coating with a-C:H:Si:O film deposited with a gas precursor of hexamethlydisiloxane (HMDSO) with its lower surface energy of 24.2 mN/m, similar to that of curticular wax covering lotus surfaces. Since this method is based on plasma dry etching & coating, precise patterning of surface texturing would be potential on steel or metal surfaces. Patterned hydrophobic steel surfaces were demonstrated by mimicking the Robinia pseudoacacia or acacia leaf, on which water was collected from the humid air using a patterned hydrophobicity on the steels. It is expected that this facile, non-toxic and fast technique would accelerate the large-scale production of superhydrophobic engineering materials with industrial applications.

We fabricated a MISFET using Pd/NiCr gate for the detecting of hydrogen gas in the air and investigated its electrical characteristics. To improve stability and high concenntration sensitivity and remove the blister generated by the penetration of hydrogen atoms Pd/NiCr catalyst gate metal are used as dual gate. To reduce the gate drift voltage caused by the inflow of hydrogen, the gate insulators of sensing and reference FFET were constructed with double insulation layers of silicon dioxide and silicon nitride. The hydrogen response of MISFET were amplified with the difference of gate voltages of both MISFET. To minimize the drift and the noise, we used a OP177 operational amplifier. The sensitivity of the Pd/NiCr gate MISFET was lower than that of Pd/Pt gate MISFET, but it showed good stability and ability to detect high concentration hydrogen up to 1000ppm.
We report the fabrication of carbon nanostureture films with excellent electron-emission characteristics on chrome electrodes using a pre-deposited transition metal catalyst layer. The emission current densities of 1 ${\mu}A/cm^2$ and 1 $mA/cm^2$ were measured at the electric field of 2.5 and 4.8 $V/{\mu}m$, respectively, and the current fluctuation of less than 2.5% was observed at the average current density 211 ${\mu}A/cm^2$ for the measurement duration of 20 minutes. We counted more than ${\sim}10^4$ emission sites per $cm^2$ from the emission images, and also noticed good mechanical stability. Moreover, we were able to fabricate good electron-emitting carbon films on chrome electrodes on Corning glass substrates at the nominal temperature below $650^{\circ}C$.
The gas-phase dehydration of glycerol to acrolein was carried out over 10 wt % HSiW catalysts supported on different supports, viz. $\gamma-Al_2O_3$, $SiO_2-Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, $ZrO_2$, $SiO_2$, AC, $CeO_2$ and MgO. The same reaction was also conducted over each support without HSiW for comparison. Several characterization techniques, $N_2$-physisorption, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia ($NH_3$-TPD), temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) with mass spectroscopy and CHNS analysis were employed to characterize the catalysts. The glycerol conversion generally increased with increasing amount of acid sites. Ceria showed the highest 1-hydroxyacetone selectivity at $315^{\circ}C$ among the various metal oxides. The supported HSiW catalyst showed superior catalytic activity to that of the corresponding support. Among the supported HSiW catalysts, HSiW/$ZrO_2$ and HSiW/$SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ showed the highest acrolein selectivity. In the case of HSiW/$ZrO_2$, the initial catalytic activity was recovered after the removal of the accumulated carbon species at $550^{\circ}C$ in the presence of oxygen.

In this study, in order to make up its draw-back in Cu-ZSM-5 catalytic system, some of transition metals or alkaline earth metals were cocation-exchanged in Cu-ZSM-5. Among various cocation-ion-exchanged ZSM-5 catalysts, Mg/Cu-ZSM-5 has been found the most active and durable in NOx reduction even at high oxygen content as well as at the presence of water vapor. The role of Mg in ZSM-5 is supposed to prevent the dealumination of aluminum ions in super-cage even at harsh hydro-thermal conditions, and also it seems to stabilize the Cu ions in the structure. In order to prepare commercially available catalysts, Mg/Cu-ZSM-5 catalysts were wash-coated on the surface of honeycomb type monolith, and tested in terms of catalytic activities. As a result, it was found that the catalyst prepared bt the wash-coating showed satisfactorily high NOx conversion for the practical use in SCR process.

In this study, titanium nanotubes, prepared by anodization method, showing high surface and strong chemical stability in acidic and basic media, have been employed for the application to the electrodes for water splitting in KOH solution. Due to its high polarization resistance of $TiO_2$ itself, proper catalysts are essentially required to reduce overpotentials for water oxidation and reduction. Most of academic literature showed noble metal catalysts for foreign dopants in $TiO_2$ electrodes. From commercialization point of view, screening of low-cost catalyst is important. Herein, we propose molybdenum oxide as low-cost catalysts among various catalysts tested in the experiments, which exhibits the highest performance for hydrogen evolution reaction in highly alkaline solution. We showed that molybdenum oxide doped electrode can be operated in extreme acidic and basic conditions as well.
We report a simple route for synthesizing multi-dimensional structured silicon anode materials from commercially available bulk silicon powders via metal-assisted chemical etching process. In the first step, silver catalyst was deposited onto the surface of bulk silicon via a galvanic displacement reaction. Next, the silver-decorated silicon particles were chemically etched in a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and hydrogen peroxide to make multi-dimensional silicon consisting of one-dimensional silicon nanowires and micro-scale silicon cores. As-synthesized silicon particles were coated with a carbon via thermal decomposition of acetylene gas. The carbon-coated multi-dimensional silicon anodes exhibited excellent electrochemical properties, including a high specific capacity (1800 mAh/g), a stable cycling retention (cycling retention of 89% after 20 cycles), and a high rate capability (71% at 3 C rate, compared to 0.1 C rate). This process is a simple and mass-productive (yield of 40-50%), thus opens up an effective route to make a high-performance silicon anode materials for lithiumion batteries.

In recent years, flame synthesis has absorbed a great deal of attention as a combustion method for the production of metal oxide nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and other related carbon nanostructures, over the existing conventional methods. Flame synthesis is an energy-efficient, scalable, cost-effective, rapid and continuous process, where flame provides the necessary chemical species for the nucleation of carbon structures (feed stock or precursor) and the energy for the production of carbon nanostructures. The production yield can be optimized by altering various parameters such as fuel profile, equivalence ratio, catalyst chemistry and structure, burner configuration and residence time. In the present report, diffusion and premixed flame synthesis methods are reviewed to develop a better understanding of factors affecting the morphology, positioning, purity, uniformity and scalability for the development of carbon nanotubes along with their correlated carbonaceous derivative nanostructures.
