The purpose of this study is to examine semantic interoperability in terms of metadata elements and content designation in context of digital libraries. This study analyzed 78 digital libraries implemented using Greenstone application with respect to metadata elements and their content designation. Using crosswalks of digital libraries' metadata elements, and comparisons of content designation in elements. this study identifies three aspects which can impact semantic interoperability. First, there were less than 25% core metadata elements even within homogeneous information communities. Second, discrepancy exists between element names and their usage. Third, different levels were identified when assigning content to designated elements in terms of integrity and completeness.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the metadata elements of institutional repository using DSpace and to provide the directions and strategies for constructing metadata. To the end, discussed in details are (1) understanding the background of development, features, elements of metadata, (2) figuring out the common metadata elements and the differentiated metadata elements for the institutional repository, (3) examining the search methods, search elements, and display elements of the insitutional repository, and (4) based on theses, suggested are directions and strategies for metadata of institutional repository using DSpace. The research methods were used such as literature review, the analysis of 4 domestic institutional repository.

This research makes the metadata element design for Korean medicine research data management and re-use. Derived metadata elements are verified in research data of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. TTAK.K0-10.0976 Standard, DataCite metadata Schema and National Research Data Platform of KISTI were analyzed to derive the metadata elements. Including Identifier, 27 elements were derived as top-level elements with 29 mandatory elements, 13 recommended elements and 31 optional elements. The degree of elements' necessity and new metadata elements were investigated and suggested in the survey by six domain experts in korean medicine field. In this study subject classification for the korean medicine research data are suggested. The final version of metadata schema was tested and verified by comparing with the legacy metadata fields. The research results can be used to describe the Korean medicine research data: items and files.

The main purpose of this study is to analyse and evaluate the metadata elements of 'Records System' and 'Electronic Document System' specifications for Korean government agencies based on functional requirements of ISO 15489. This present paper begins with discussing the characteristics of recordskeeping metada, and extract the metadata elements fulfilling the ISO 15489 functional requirements. And this study tries to compare the metadata elements of current specifications with ISO 15489 elements. Based on these analyses, it suggests the directions for improving current metadata specifications and for developing national metadata standard.

The information about eBook cannot be added automatically to library catalog because the eBook Service Provider does not provide enough eBook metadata. Therefore, this paper was developed the eBook library's metadata in order to maintain the compatibility and interoperability analyzed the eBook service provider's metadata, KS X 6100 metadata, Dublin Core, MARC, and TEI Header, and extracted common meradata elements from them. We defined these common metadata elements as a core element and added other elements that uniquely describe eBook characteristics as a detailed adn additional elements for eBook metadata.

The purpose of this paper is to develop standardized metadata elements of e-mail records with respect to international standards based on analyzing the Australian Government Email Metadata Standard(AGEMS) elements and Korean Records Management Metadata Standard including e-mail records. To achieve the goal, we investigated and analyzed ISO15489 and ISO 23081 which are the international standard related to records and metadata of records. Second, a case study related to the features of e-mail records produced in public institutions in Korea was performed. Third, we made a comparative study of Australian Government Email Metadata Standard(AGEMS). With the results, we proposed mandatory and optional metadata elements for managing e-mail records. Also, the DTD of proposed metadata elements were developed. The proposed metadata elements of e-mail was applied to e-mails which were produced from a administrative information system of a local government in Korea.

The description of preserved resources is one of the requirements in digital preservation. The description is generally created in the format of metadata records, and those records are combined to generate information packages to support the process of digital preservation. However, current strategies or models of digital preservation may not generate information packages in efficient ways. To overcome these problems, this research proposed an internal structure of information packages in digital preservation. In order to construct the internal structure, this research analyzed existing metadata standards and cataloging rules such as Dublin Core, MARC, and FRBR to extract the core elements of resource description. The extracted elements were categorized according to their semantics and functions, which resulted in three categories of core elements. These categories and core elements were manifested by using RDF syntax in order to be substantially applied to combine metadata records in digital preservation. Although the internal structure is not intended to create metadata records, it is expected to provide an alternative approach to enable combining existing metadata records in the context of digital preservation in a more flexible way.

I designed the game UCI identification metadata to enable the game industry to provide copyright protection of game content, the efficiency of the management and distribution. This was mapped with existing UCI metadata which is composed of 9 elements that are applied to international standards for interoperability. I redefined 3 elements and added 3 more elements for reflecting the characteristics of the game. So it is composed of 12 elements in total. The result is verified by the general user survey and expert interviews. And I will develope the game UCI identification metadata management system with the results of study to be utilized by game agencies.

This study aims to design the metadata elements for managing and maintaining digitized records resulting from digitization. The digitized records were first defined and characterized, then assigned as copies and surrogates for source records. Next, the factors to be considered when designing metadata elements for digitized records were determined by comparing standards from different countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. As a result of the comparison, establishing a relationship between digitized records and source records, expanding the automatically extracted metadata elements following resource characteristics, and creating metadata for digitization processes and projects were set to be the key tasks of metadata design for managing digitized records. Furthermore, the metadata elements for digital records and digitization processes were designed individually, and the elements to be added for each entity were proposed by referring to standards from other counties.

YouTube videos of public institutions are digital public records that need to be managed and preserved. As such, the video and the metadata describing the video should also be preserved. This study aims to select the key metadata elements necessary for archiving videos published on YouTube by public institutions. To this end, five high-level areas, namely the description, structure, management, preservation, and user participation, and the metadata elements of 10 subareas, were designed by referring to NAK 8, PREMIS, ISAD(G), and YouTube metadata. Afterward, the metadata elements designed by 14 experts were verified. Lastly, the validity and reliability of the evaluation results were verified. Of the 63 elements, 33 satisfied the validity and reliability criteria. Thus, these elements were selected as the core metadata for archiving YouTube videos in public institutions.
