A Meta-learning Approach for Building Multi-classifier Systems in a GA-based Inductive Learning Environment (유전 알고리즘 기반 귀납적 학습 환경에서 다중 분류기 시스템의 구축을 위한 메타 학습법)

  • The paper proposes a meta-learning approach for building multi-classifier systems in a GA-based inductive learning environment. In our meta-learning approach, a classifier consists of a general classifier and a meta-classifier. We obtain a meta-classifier from classification results of its general classifier by applying a learning algorithm to them. The role of the meta-classifier is to evaluate the classification result of its general classifier and decide whether to participate into a final decision-making process or not. The classification system draws a decision by combining classification results that are evaluated as correct ones by meta-classifiers. We present empirical results that evaluate the effect of our meta-learning approach on the performance of multi-classifier systems.

Hydrochemical Characteristics of Deep Groundwater at Surak-ri, Nonsan-gun, Chungnam Province, Korea (충남 논산군 수락리 일대 심부지하수의 수질특성)

  • Hydrochemical characteristics of deep groundwater at Surak-ri, Nonsan-gun, Chungnam Province was explained by major ion concentration, water type, and phase stability diagram. The area is composed of meta-sedimentary rock and quartz pophyry. The 5 boreholes where deep groundwater was sampled and analyzed are located on the meta-sedimentary rocks and drilling depth range of the wells is from 554 m to 928 m. pH, TDS, Na, and SiO2 values are high in the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area intruded by quartz pophyry, while Ca is high in the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area. K and Mg concentrations are low but F concentration is high both groundwater. The content of major anions is in the order of CO3(HCO3)>Cl>SO4(F) in both geology, while that of major cations shows the order of Na>Ca>K(Mg) in meta-sedimentary area intruded by quartz porphyry and a>Na>Mg>Na in meta-sedimentary area. Based on the phase equilibrium in the systems Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O and K2O-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O, the groundwater is saturated with respect to Quartz and more evolved compared with the natural mineral water. It is concluded that chemical evolution in the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area intruded by quartz porphyry, is nearly saturated with respect to feldspar, while the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area continue to proceed with increasing pH by reaction of feldspar.

Effect of aquatic exercise on gait in persons with chronic stroke: a meta-analysis study in Korea

  • Objective: Based on the results of previous studies, it is necessary to analyze gait and discuss and present the effects of aquatic exercise for chronic stroke. The purpose of this study was to present objective data on the effect of aquatic exercise on the gait of persons with stroke by performing a meta-analysis. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: We performed a meta-analysis of 23 studies that investigated the effects of aquatic exercise performed between 2006 and 2017. The studies were searched on the basis of the participants, intervention, comparison, outcomes standard. The quality of the research method was assessed using a tool that can assess the risks posed by each study design. A meta-analysis software program was used to calculate the mean effect size, effect size by intervention, and effect size by outcome. We also performed a meta-regression analysis and an analysis of publication bias. Results: The mean effect size of the patients' gait was 0.65 (p<0.05). The largest effect size by outcome was observed at the 6-m walk test, followed by the 6-minutes walk test, 10-m walk test, and the walking equipment test (p<0.05). The meta-regression analysis showed that the effect size increased with increased duration, number, and length of sessions. Conclusions: Aquatic exercise appears to show a moderate effect on the gait of chronic stroke survivors. Meta-analyses on the effects of aquatic exercise in other patient populations are needed. This study suggests standard criteria establishments for the effect of aquatic exercise on the walking ability of persons with chronic stroke.

  • By analyzing the style of creator avatars in the world of Metaverse, which is emerging as a fourth-generation social media platform, this study aims to identify the meta-fashion tastes of Generation Z (Gen Z) creators (born in the late 2010s and early 2020s) and to analyze the extent to which current trends in the fashion market are influencing meta-fashion. The research method uses a case study to compare meta-fashion and current fashion trends. First, five Gen Z fashion creators on ZEPETO were selected to analyze the meta-fashion styles presented by this group. In the end, a total of 100 fashion styles were analyzed by combining 50 items each from the current meta-fashion and real fashion trends. The fashion styles were found to be hip-hop, easy-casual, punk, lovely feminine, and sexy, and the main fashion items were analyzed as jeans, hip-hop style pants, sneakers, tight crop tops, dresses, tattoos, chain accessories, and dyeing. Meta-fashion is the emergence of items similar in shape to those popular in the current fashion market, but are more exaggerated or show off the human body than actual fashion items.

A Quality Assessment of Meta-Analyses of Nursing in South Korea (국내 간호학 분야 메타분석 논문의 질 평가)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the quality of meta-analyses on nursing published in South Korea. Methods: Relevant meta-analyses were identified through searches of the National Assembly Library, KISS (Korean Studies Information Service System), and the DBpia and RISS4U databases from 1990 to May 2013. Quality assessments were conducted using AMSTAR, a validated tool for assessing the quality of systematic reviews. Results: Forty-two meta-analyses were included in this study. Twenty-nine published between 1990 and 2010, and 13, between 2011 and May 2013. Two high quality studies and 11 moderate quality studies were published in the latter period. The mean score for the reviews was 5.61 (range 3-10); 11 studies were rated as low quality, 29 as moderate quality, and two as high quality. Conclusion: Although an improvement in the quality of meta-analyses conducted by nursing researchers in South Korea was observed across the study period, the study results indicate a need to use of more rigorous research methods when conducting systematic reviews or meta-analyses.

Weighted Fast Adaptation Prior on Meta-Learning

  • Along with the deeper architecture in the deep learning approaches, the need for the data becomes very big. In the real problem, to get huge data in some disciplines is very costly. Therefore, learning on limited data in the recent years turns to be a very appealing area. Meta-learning offers a new perspective to learn a model with this limitation. A state-of-the-art model that is made using a meta-learning framework, Meta-SGD, is proposed with a key idea of learning a hyperparameter or a learning rate of the fast adaptation stage in the outer update. However, this learning rate usually is set to be very small. In consequence, the objective function of SGD will give a little improvement to our weight parameters. In other words, the prior is being a key value of getting a good adaptation. As a goal of meta-learning approaches, learning using a single gradient step in the inner update may lead to a bad performance. Especially if the prior that we use is far from the expected one, or it works in the opposite way that it is very effective to adapt the model. By this reason, we propose to add a weight term to decrease, or increase in some conditions, the effect of this prior. The experiment on few-shot learning shows that emphasizing or weakening the prior can give better performance than using its original value.

Effects of Writing Reflective Journal on Meta-cognition and Problem Solving Ability in Nursing Students taking a Fundamental Nursing Skills Course Applying Blended Learning (블렌디드 러닝(blended learning)을 적용한 기본간호학 실습교육에서 성찰일지의 작성이 간호학생의 메타인지와 문제해결능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to contribute to the development of an efficient teaching-learning method by analyzing effects of writing reflective journals on meta-cognition and problem solving ability in nursing students in education applying blended learning for fundamental nursing skills. Methods: The research design was a one-group pretest-posttest design, done to assess changes in meta-cognition and problem solving ability. Participants were 63 nursing students taking the fundamental nursing skills course at one college in Gyeonggi Province. The course was offered from March 21 to June 3, 2016. Data were collected using pre and post tests given before and after writing of reflective journals in blended learning. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}^{\prime}s$ test and paired t-test with SPSS Statistics version 20.0. Results: The results of this study show that scores for meta-cognition and problem solving ability of these students were all above average. There was a statistically significant difference in meta-cognition between pre and post writing of reflective journals but not for problem-solving ability. Conclusion: The findings indicate that writing a reflective journal in blended learning is an efficient teaching-learning method to improve meta-cognition in nursing students.

  • This thesis aims to show the design logics and the meta-design of a public restroom "Between You and Me." This work reinterprets a public restroom regarded as the typical public space by means of spatial agency's influences, on the assumption thor spatial agency controls the properties of public space. This thesis examines our representational system against the public space, and our specific experience in it with the conceptual model of meta-design. Meta-design is a design beyond the design usually we think of. Experiential meta-design, "Between You and Me" presented as the object of this thesis, is a constructive design project which converts our negative perception of the restroom to a new one, "interface." This project, composed of the surrealistic spatial arrangement, urges us to reconsider our fixed thoughts of the restroom and try a creative experience in it. Finally this thesis shows how the space's way of existence fixes our acts and thoughts, and what enables the repetitive acts and thoughts often emerged In our relations with the public space through a meta-design.c space through a meta-design.

The Influence of Parental Meta-Emotion Philosophy on Children's Social Competence: The Mediating Effect of Children's Emotion Regulation (부모상위정서철학이 학령기 아동의 사회적 유능성에 미치는 영향: 아동의 정서조절능력의 매개효과 검증)

  • This study created a structural model of the influence of paternal and maternal meta-emotion philosophy and children's emotion regulation in terms of their social competence and confirmed the nature of the relationship among the variables. For the purpose of this study, data was collected, targeting 363 children in the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ elementary school grades from schools located in Seoul. The main results of this study were as follows: First, both paternal and maternal meta-emotion philosophy had an influence on children's emotion regulation and emotion dysregulation. Next, paternal and maternal meta-emotion philosophy did not appear to have a significant influence on children's social competence in a direct manner. The complete mediation effect of emotion regulation in regards to the influence of paternal and maternal meta-emotion philosophy upon children's social competence was confirmed. It was also found that parental meta-emotion philosophy had an influence upon children's social competence in an indirect manner through children's emotion regulation in the period of middle childhood.

The Effects of Maternal Meta-Emotion and Emotion Socialization on Preschoolers' Emotional Intelligence (어머니의 상위정서와 정서사회화가 유아의 정서지능에 미치는 영향)

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the direct and indirect effects of maternal meta-emotion on preschoolers' emotional intelligence through mothers' emotion socialization. A total of 252 preschool-aged children and their mothers residing in the Seoul Metropolitan and Gyeonggi-do areas participated in this study. The mothers completed questionnaires regarding their meta-emotion, emotion socialization and preschoolers' emotional intelligence. The results of the study indicated that maternal meta-emotion did not have a direct effect on preschoolers' emotional intelligence. However, maternal meta-emotion did indeed have an indirect effect on preschoolers' emotional intelligence through emotion socialization styles. That is, mothers who had desirable beliefs about emotions provided supportive reactions to children's negative emotion expression and showed positive emotions more frequently in the family. In addition, the preschoolers of mothers who showed positive emotion socialization styles were reported to be more emotionally intelligent. The findings of this study suggest that maternal meta-emotion and emotion socialization are important in predicting preschoolers' emotional intelligence.
