  • A novel and simple method, which can be used to automatically regenerate 3D finite element meshes, is presented in the paper. This technique based on the structural deformation analysis. It is problem independent and can be used to renew the mesh of any kind of 3D shape design system whether the geometric surface is parameterized or not. The mesh deformation degree can be adjusted by choosing suitable subregion and giving proper parameters. It is sufficient to obtain a smooth contour with proper mesh quality. Application to the optimum design of shielding plate shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

  • The mesh-based frictional contact model has been developed which does not rely on the spatial derivatives of the tool surface. Only points on the surface are evaluated from the description. which can then be simplified because of the relaxed demands placed on it. The surface tangents, normals, and corresponding derivatives at each finite-element node are evaluated directly from the finite-element mesh, in terms of the connecting nodal positions. The advantages accrue because there is no longer a need for a smooth tool surface to assure reasonable normals and derivatives. Furthermore, it can be shown that the equilibrium equations can only be properly written with a special normal derived from the mesh itself. The validity, accuracy, computation time, and stability of mesh-based contact model were discussed with the numerical examples of rounded flat-top and rough, flat-top rounded punch forming operations. Also, the forming process of a automobile inner panel section was simulated for testing the robustness of new contact model. In the discussion, the superiority of new model was examined, comparing with tool-based contact one.

  • How to improve the cell culture method on scaffolds is important in the tissue engineering fileld. In this study, we optimized seeding and culture methods to vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) on biodegradable polymer scaffold. The primary culture of VSMCs obtained from canine external jugular vein was accomplished by applying the explant-derived method. The primary cultured VSMCs were seeded into scaffolds and then cultured by using various different methods; static or dynamic seeding, static or dynamic culture. The difference in proliferative response of VSMCs was analyzed with an alamar blue assay. Cell-polymer construct was examined by histochemical method and scanning electron microscopy. Mesh type scaffold ($10 \times 10 \times0.4 mm$) was made of polyglycolic acid (PGA) suture thread. The PGA mesh type scaffold was 45% in porosity, and 0.03 g in weight. The primary cultured VSMCs were confirmed with immunohistochemical staining using monoclonal anti-$\alpha$-smooth muscle actin. The density and distribution of proliferated VSMCs within the scaffold and cellular adherence on the surface of the scaffold showed better results in the static seeding condition than in the dynamic condition. Under the same condition of seeding method as the static condition, the dynamic culture condition showed enhanced proliferation rates of the VSMCs when compared to the static culture condition. In conclusion, to improve the VSMCs proliferation in vitro, static seeding is better than the dynamic condition. In the culture condition, however, culture under the dynamic status is better than the static condition. This was a pilot study to manufacture artificial vascular vessel by tissue engineering.

  • Today, video games created via 3D softwares become a core part of the essential the video game contents field because their properties that can produce more easier than 2D games and can save budget of contents makings. It is very important that reducing polygon counts of 3D characters and environments for Gaming optimization. We can formulate elaborate 3D game models with low polygon counting in virtue of technological advancements, and these technologies continue to evolve. In 2012, Pixar made public Open subdivision which is the new technology to make high quality 3D models with low polygons and distributed that via Open source verification. This paper will compare and analyze the characteristics, and merits and demerits of these various kinds of these skills(Mesh smooth, Turbo Smooth, Open subdivision) and will inquire which method is the most efficient one to make 3D video games.

  • Recently, designing 3D objects using various modeling techniques become getting more important issues in related industrial fields. The subdivision scheme is a technique that generates a smooth sur-face through many times of refinement processes that split polygons of control mesh into several smaller polygons. In this paper, we propose a new subdivision algorithm that preserves sharp-edges of control mesh after several refinement processes in the Doo-Sabin subdivision scheme. Using the pro-posed algorithm, the Doo-Sabin subdivision scheme can be well applied to modeling 3D objects with sharp-edges.

  • This paper introduces and illustrates the results of a new method fer offsetting triangular mesh by moving all vertices along the multiple normal vectors of a vertex. The multiple normal vectors of a vertex are set the same as the normal vectors of the faces surrounding the vertex, while the two vectors with the smallest difference are joined repeatedly until the difference is smaller than allowance. Offsetting with the multiple normal vectors of a vertex does not create a gap or overlap at the smooth edges, thereby making the mesh size uniform and the computation time short. In addition, this offsetting method is accurate at the sharp edges because the vertices are moved to the normal directions of faces and joined by the blend surface. The method is also useful for rapid prototyping and tool path generation if the triangular mesh is tessellated part of the solid models with curved surfaces and sharp edges. The suggested method and previous methods are implemented on a PC using C++ and illustrated using an OpenGL library.

  • In this paper, we describe the application procedure of the adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) for the weighted essentially non-oscillatory schemes (WENO), and observe the effects of the derived algorithm when problems have piecewise smooth solutions containing discontinuities. We find numerically that the dissipation of the WENO scheme can be lessened by the implementation of AMR while the accuracy is maintained. We deduce from the experiments that the AMR-implemented WENO scheme captures shocks more efficiently than the WENO method using uniform grids.

  • A robust numerical method for a singularly perturbed second-order ordinary differential equation having two parameters with a discontinuous source term is presented in this article. Theoretical bounds are derived for the derivatives of the solution and its smooth and singular components. An appropriate piecewise uniform mesh is constructed, and classical upwind finite difference schemes are used on this mesh to obtain the discrete system of equations. Parameter-uniform error bounds for the numerical approximations are established. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the convergence of the numerical approximations.

  • In the previous researches on mesh curve fairing method, a set of discrete data points in a mesh can be selected as variables. End tangent vectors can not be variables. This restriction makes some problems in preparing the end tangent vectors at the bow or stern parts, because their slopes are not infinites or zeros. In this paper end tangent vectors are included as variables and the more smooth results are obtained. Also two methods of constructing ship hull surface from mesh curves are examined. It is shown that the skinning method is better than non-uniform B-spline fitting method in representing the area near boundary. The generation of a ship surface is given as an example.

  • In this study an adaptive node generation procedure in the Element-free Galerkin (EFG) method using bubble-meshing technique is Proposed. Since we construct the initial configuration of nodes by subdivision of background cell, abrupt changes of inter-nodal distance between higher and lower error regions are unavoidable. This unpreferable nodal spacing induces additional errors. To obtain the smooth nodal configuration the nodal configurations are regenerated by bubble-meshing technique. This bubble meshing technique was originally developed to generate a set of well-shaped triangles and tetrahedra. In odder to evaluate the effect of abrupt changes of nodal spacing, one-dimensional problems with various nodal configurations mere investigated. To demonstrate the performance of proposed scheme, the sequences of making optimal nodal configuration with bubble meshing technique are investigated for several problems.
