Aralia contientalis show several beneficial effects including anti-oxidant effects. Aralia contientalis is used as a therapeutic agent to stop haemorrhages and a tonic to promoted health in Korean and Chinese medicine. The pharmacokinetic profiles of the main Aralia contientalis is still not accurately investigated. In present study, I examined the effects of water extracts of Aralia contientalis on high cholesterol diet atherosclerosis-induced rats in serum and abdominal aorta. A total of 3-week old 9 male rats of Sprague-Dawley were divided into 3 groups and fed with the basal diet (normal group), high cholesterol diet (atherosclerosis induced group) for 8 weeks, high cholesterol diet supplemented with water extracts of Aralia contientalis (Aralia contientalis group) for 2 weeks. And rats were sacrificed, serum lipid level, abodominal aortic anti-oxidant activities and lipid peroxide were measured. These results indicated that serum total cholesterl, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides concentration significently lowered in Aralia contientalis group than high cholesterol diet group. But HDL-cholesterol concentraion significently higher in Aralia contientalis group than high cholesterol diet group.

1979∼1980연 칠월초에 서부 비무장지대 (DMZ)에서 모기 유충채집을 실시한 바 Aedes alboscutellatus의 유충을 제집하여 사육한 결과 성충(♀,♂), 완전유충, 유충 및 편의 탈피각등 분류에 필요한 자료를 얻었다. 이 종은 Reisen등(1971)에 의하여 한국에서 처음 성충(♀)채집을 기록하였으나 이를 확증할 만한 표본이나 분류학적인 기재가 없어 분류상의 오독으로 간주되어 왔었다. 저자등은 본 채집을 통하여 분류상 필요한 모든 자료를 수집하였기에 성충(♀, ♂), 유충, 항, 자충생식기등의 특징을 Reinert(1973)의 기재와 상세히 비교 검토한 결과 웅충에서 gonostylar claw와 basal mesal lobe에 있는 강모의 수가 다르고 자웅충에서는 subspiracular area에 횐 비늘들이 모여있는 점을 발견하였다. 그러나 이들 차이점을 여기에서는 단지 지리적 변화로 간주하였으므로 더 많은 수의 채집을 통하여 보다 확실한 구각이 요구된다 이 표본의 장기보관을 위하여 암수 각 한개섹의 표본과 그에 수반되는 유충 및 편의 탈피곡 표본을 미국 Smithonian연구소에 보냈으며 나머지는 미 8군 예방의무부 곤충연구실에 보관되어 있다.

Objectives : This study was to investigate using FIM(functional independence measure) in 70patients with stroke and to evaluate prognosis. Methods : The subjects of this study were 70 patients who were admitted to the Dong-Eui oriental hospital within 7days after stroke. Improving rate were measured by using the FIM(at admission, after 2week and 4week). Each patients was diagnosed with sasang constitutional analysis(QSCC ll), Brain-CT, MRI scan and clinical observation. Results : There were significant results statistically between FIM(degree of improvement) and sex, age, side of hemiparesis, and hypertension. While diabetes mellitus, heart disease, hypercholesterolemia, and severity of early state were not significant meaning statistically. Conclusions : Sex, age, side of hemiparesis, and hypertension were relevant factors in predicting the functional outcome in the patients with stroke. I thought that the meaning of man-left and woman-right(男左女右) is not severity of early state but degree of improvement.

We previously reported that the novel isoflavone-free peptide mixture (black soybean peptide, BSP) had several beneficial effects like antiobesity and hypotriglyceridemic effect. However, there are no reports for BSP on anti-hypertensive activity. BSP induced heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in HUVECs, thus investigated the HO-1-induced activity in HUVECs and the anti-hypertensive effects in SHR animal model. BSP significantly induced HO-1 expression both at transcriptional and protein levels in a time- and dose-dependent manner as measured by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis, respectively. These inductions were abolished by pretreatment of N-acetyl-cystein (NAC, 1~10 mM), but not by employing Tempol, a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic (1~5 mM). As expected, enzymatic activity (~2 fold) determined by bilirubin formation assay and cGMP concentration (~6 fold) were significantly increased in BSP-treated cells. Based on the numerous evidences on the beneficial effects of HO-1 and our results, we investigated in vivo effects of BSP on the antihypertensive activity. The administration of BSP (1% in drinking water) significantly decreased mean blood pressure (BP) (from $218.6{\pm}6.99$ to $190.0{\pm}3.42$ mm Hg, p<0.01). This result indicates that BSP is strong inducer of HO-1 expression, which may be triggered by oxidative stress, and has anti-hypertensive activity.

The Pye is one of the organs in oriental medicine, which has functions of controlling Ki. The Lungs is also a organ that has a function of respiration, in western medicne. Ki means the air in the first notion. Therefore, the functions of the Lungs and Pye are no differences. However, Ki doesn't mean the air only. Respiration in western medicne has two meanings. One of them is a external respiration, ang the other is a cellular respiration. In that process, the Lungs supervise oxygen and oxidation of protein, carbohydrate and fat and prduce ATP as energy. Two of Functions in Ki are Choodong(推動;Tuidong) and Onhoo(溫煦;Wenxu). Choodong means making energy ang Onhoo means making heat, that indicate a similarity functions of Pye and Lungs from the view of making energy.

Tracheal tuberculosis is a relatively uncommon form of tuberculosis and can result in acute tracheal obstruction early in the disease course. This is a report of a case of tracheal tuberculosis with unusual clinical presentation.

Objective : The purpose of this case series was to investigate the effectiveness of GagamZihwang-tang for enuresis and frequent urination. Method : We prescribed GagamZihwang-tang and provided acupuncture therapy weekly. Results of before and after therapy were evaluated and scored twice a month. Results and conclusion : The study showed decrease of urination frequency from 17th-20th a day to 6th a day.
