Effective data exchange among the diverse stakeholders participating in a process plant project is an important issue. ISO 15926 is an international standard to support sharing and integrating of process plant data. iRINGTools is an ISO 15926-based tool used to exchange plant data. To exchange plant data using iRINGTools, the mapping between the data model of a commercial system and ISO 15926 should be preceded. To accomplish this, types and properties of equipment and materials used for plant design should be predefined and these data should be represented as user-defined reference data complying with ISO 15926. Besides, the user-defined reference data should be serviced by a reference data server such that iRINGTools searches reference data from the server and utilizes the data for the model mapping. In this paper, we present a method to construct a reference data server and use it for the model mapping in iRINGTools. The proposed method is verified through experiments of exchanging specifications data of equipment and materials using iRINGTools.

The present study intends to analyze damage in thin-walled steel cylinders undergoing constant internal pressure and thermal cycles through use of anisotropic continuum damage mechanics (CDM) model coupled with nonlinear kinematic hardening rule of Chaboche. Materials damage in each direction was defined based on plastic strain and its direction. Stress and strain distribution over wall-thickness was described based on the CDM model and the return mapping algorithm was employed based on the consistency condition. Plastic zone expansion across the wall thickness of cylinders was noticeably affected with change in internal pressure and temperature gradients. Expansion of plastic zone over wall-thickness at inner and outer surfaces and their boundaries demarking elastic and plastic regions was attributed to the magnitude of damage induced over thermomechanical cycles on the thin-walled samples tested at various pressure stresses.
Using regular finite elements and infinite elements simultaneously, elastic boundary value problems with infinite domain can be analyzed more effectively and accurately. In this paper, two dimensional infinite elements have been formulated by means of applying the derived mapping function to the coordinates and multiplying the regular displacement shape functions by a decay function. Orders(m, n) of the mapping and decay functions are found for the purpose of obtaining the convergent solutions without respect to the various decay lengthes. As a result of numerical tests for an infinite plate with a hole under internal pressure, two sets of function orders are obtained as follows. (a) n=0, m=1.5 (b) n=m=0.65
In this work, a Gaussian Process (Kriging) approach is proposed to provide efficient dose mapping for complex radiation fields using limited number of responses. Given a few response measurements (or simulation data points), the proposed approach can help the analyst in completing a map of the radiation dose field with a 95% confidence interval, efficiently. Two case studies are used to validate the proposed approach. The First case study is based on experimental dose measurements to build the dose map in a radiation field induced by a D-D neutron generator. The second, is a simulation case study where the proposed approach is used to mimic Monte Carlo dose predictions in the radiation field using a limited number of MCNP simulations. Given the low computational cost of constructing Gaussian Process (GP) models, results indicate that the GP model can reasonably map the dose in the radiation field given a limited number of data measurements. Both case studies are performed on the nuclear engineering radiation laboratories at the University of Sharjah.
This paper investigates the problem of a crack approaching two circular holes in an orthotropic infinite plate. The stress intensity factors were obtained by using the modified mapping-collocation method. The present results show excellent agreement with existing solutions for a crack approaching two circular holes in an isotropic infinite plate. In the numerical examples, various types of cross-ply laminated composites were considered. To investigate the effect of orthotropy and geometry(d/R and a/(d-R)) on crack tip singularity, stress intensity factors were considered as functions of the normalized crack length. It is expected that the modified mapping-collocation method can be applied to the analysis of various kinds of cracks existing around the stress-concentration region of composite laminate.
Higher order isoparametric elements are usually used in the finite element analysis because they can represent easily the geometric shape of a complex structure ad can improve the solution quality. When these elements are used, the position of internal nodes affects greatly on the solution accuracy. Decreasing of the accuracy related to the position of internal nodes is due to non-conformal mapping often results in an unstable Jacobian value. This paper, in order to remove this difficulty, suggests a modified shape function which can establish conformal mapping between two coordinate systems. Numerical experiments with the proposed shape function show that a stable solution can be obtained without respect to the position of internal nodes, and offer convenience that one can take arbitrarily the position of internal nodes considering only the geometric shape of element boundaries.
The SIMP (solid isotropic material with penalization) approach is perhaps the most popular density variable relaxation method in topology optimization. This method has been very successful in many applications, but the optimization solution convergence can be improved when new variables, not the direct density variables, are used as the design variables. In this work, we newly propose S-shape functions mapping the original density variables nonlinearly to new design variables. The main role of S-shape function is to push intermediate densities to either lower or upper bounds. In particular, this method works well with nonlinear mathematical programming methods. A method of feasible directions is chosen as a nonlinear mathematical programming method in order to show the effects of the S-shape scaling function on the solution convergence.

This paper proposes a hexahedral mesh generation scheme based on mapping approach and improves the drawback of sweeping algorithm. In order to improve the drawback, the algorithm in this paper generates hexahedral meshes by three dimensional element mapping first. Then hexahedral meshes are equivalent to geometry of the volume by mapping and smoothing. Sample meshes are constructed to demonstrate the mesh generating capability of the proposed algorithm.
This paper suggests an automatic elliptic grid generation method that is well-suited for the numerical mapping of complex geometries which are easily obtained from general CAD programs. An LBLADI solver is used for the governing mapping equations to have the strong diagonal dominance. The full boundary control method is adopted to determine the control functions of the equations, which allows the control of the grid regarding spacing and angle control at all boundary surfaces. The solution method presented here provides the capability of mapping very complicated geometries by defining grid point locations only along the boundaries. In the automated elliptic grid generation procedure, it is showed that strong diagonal dominance is essential to achieve successful mapping irrespective of the initial grid condition provided. To demonstrate the robustness of this method, it is applied to the thermal flow like the natural convection between eccentric cylinders. The results agree well with others.
