The abrasion behavior of three kinds of warp knitted fabrics, which are normally used for upper sole of footwear, was evaluated. We measured the changes of mechanical and structural properties of each sample as abrasion cycle increased. Each sample showed similar trends in compression and surface properties but there were significant differences in abrasion rate among the samples. The mechanical properties showed remarkable differences with directions. The frictional coefficient (MIU) of fabric surface increased at the beginning of abrasion and decreased as abrasion cycles increased. The weight and thickness of the fabric linearly decreased with abrasion cycles. The surface roughness (SMD) and the compressional resilience (RC) decreased as abrasion cycles increased while compressional energy (WC) increased.
Knitted fabrics are very popular for their numerous advantages such as greater comfort, attractive garment appearance, better fit on the body, etc. In this study, we investigated the mechanical properties and abrasion property of warp knitted fabrics for footwear which treated with several softeners to improve abrasion resistance. The antistatic softener among the various softeners showed high improvement in abrasion resistance. Among the mechanical properties with treating conditions, WT (tensile energy), G (shear stiffness), B (bending rigidity) increased as treating timeincreased. But the other mechanical properties were little changed with treating concentration.
To investigate organoclay, high styrene resin masterbatch (HSR), high impact polystyrene (HIPS), and polystyrene (PS) as reinforcing materials for the improvement of the abrasion resistance of poly(styrene-block-butadiene-block-styrene) (SBS), SBS/organoclay nanocomposites, SBS/HSR, SBS/HIPS, and SBS/PS blends were prepared. The effect of organoclay and blends on the abrasion resistance and mechanical properties of SBS was investigated. Even though intercalations of organoclay are observed for SBS/Cloisite 20A nanocomposites and not for SBS/Cloisite 30B composites, the abrasion resistance of SBS/Cloisite 20A nanocomposites is worse than that of SBS/Cloisite 30B composites. When SBS was blended with HSR, HIPS and PS, the abrasion resistance of the blends increases with increasing of HSR, HIPS and PS content from 0 to 20 wt%.
MEMS capacitive gap sensor is developed for measuring abrasion depth of gun barrel rifling. Measuring abrasion depth of gun barrel rifling is very important because it is related with exactness of firing and life of arms. The method using a gap sensor is not to hurt rifling. And it can measure abrasion depth through minimum shooting, because the developed gap sensor can measure from $1{\mu}m{\sim}12{\mu}m$ using Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) material and making a stretchable electrode on PDMS. And it's resolution is 1 ${\mu}m$ using capacitive method and MEMS technology.
The majority of fly ash pipes in thermal power stations use steel pipes. This makes frequent replacement inevitable due to severe abrasion near the hot and curved section of pipes. Recently, there have been efforts to prevent this abrasion with lining techniques using ceramic or basalt on the inner wall of the pipe. This study uses composite and anti-wear material to maximize the anti-abrasion effects on the hot section of the pipe. The thickness of the abrasion layer was determined by the abrasion ratio of material found through the experiment; the thickness of the reinforcement layer was determined by micromechanics. Experiments were conducted on epoxy resins to test for heat and abrasion. Anti-abrasion test using particle impingement was intended to recreate realistic conditions when abrasion occurs within the hot section of an actual pipe. This study analyzes the abrasion ratio obtained from both the specimen experiment and from on-site measurement and provides evidence that a combination of composites and anti-wear agent can be used to create a fly ash pipe that is lower in costs and higher in quality than what is used currently.
This study was performed to evaluate compressive strength, flexural strength, static modulus of elasticity, stress-strain ratio and durability of abrasion on EVA concrete reinforced steel fiber (SF) in order to use hydraulic structures, underground utilities, offshore structures and structures being applied soil contaminated area. It is used ordinary portland cement, crushed coarse aggregate, nature fine aggregate, EVA redispersible polymer powder, superplasticizer and deforming agent to find optimum mix design of EVA concrete reinforced steel fiber. EVA concrete reinforced SF was effected on the improvement of mechanical properties and durability of abrasion.
The grate bar, a component used in steel mills, is used in harsh environments where external disturbances such as high temperature, abrasion, corrosion, and impacts are present. Therefore, in this study, spray-coating was performed on the most severely affected surface to extend the lifetime of the grate bar. The thermal and mechanical properties of the sprayed coated bars were investigated based on the performances under abrasion, thermal shock, tension, and sand blasting, and the microstructures by microscope. By analyzing the thermal and mechanical properties of the uncoated original grate bar and coated grate bar and comparing them with one another, the physical performance improvement of the coated grate bar can be verified.
The alignment film abrasion caused by the rubbing process was quantitatively evaluated via atomic-force microscopy (AFM). First, a patterned alignment film structure, which was molded through the imprint method, was artificially formed. Then, the surface topography of the alignment film was evaluated via AFM after rubbing, and the degree of abrasion of the alignment film was estimated by subtracting the value after rubbing from the value before rubbing. It was recognized that the degree of abrasion increased with an increase in the rubbing strength. The relationship between the number of rubbing cycles and the degree of abrasion of the alignment film was also estimated.
The wear behaviors of ${Si_3}{N_4}$ under the different sliding conditions were investigated. The cylinder-on-disc wear tester was used. Using the servo-metor, the sliding speed did ot alternate due to the frictional forces. Threekinds of loads and speeds were selected to watch the variation of the wear rates and the frictional forces. Also three kinds of sliding condition under a constant speed were used to see the effects of the oxidationand the abrasion. The contact pressure was more effective than the repeated cycle on the wear behavior of ${Si_3}{N_4}$. With the low loads, the effect of the asperity-failure was more dominant than that of oxidation and abrasion. As increasing the load, the effects of oxidation and abrasion were increased, but the asperity-failure effects were decreased. The wear particles destroyed the ozide layers formed on sliding surfaces. The wear rate could be decreased due to delaying the oxidation. The frictional power and the wear weight per time were usefuel to see the transition of wear.
This study deals with the influence of ceramic coating on characteristics of friction and abrasion of aluminum allot(7075 T6) used in mechanical casting. In this research, frictional wear characteristic of ceramic coating materials such as $A1_2O_3$, $Si_3N_4$, SiC was investigated using aluminum alloy(7075 T6) and stainless 403 cast iron under room temperature and normal air pressure. The coating layer was observed using SEM. The conclusions are as follows: 1) Friction coefficients of $A1_2O_3$, SiC and $Si_3N_4$ are obtained 0.63 0.56 and 0.54 respectively. 2) Abrasion resistance of stainless 403 cast iron with $Si_3N_4$ is the best among the ceramic coating materials. 3) Abrasion mechanism of aluminum alloy(7075 T6) coaled with ceramic material and stainless 403 cast iron is caused by brittle fracture. 4) Coating the ceramic material on the aluminum alloy(7075 T6) can effectively increase the antiwear, impact properties, and corrosion resistance.
