The typhoon wind characteristics designing for buildings or bridges located in complex terrain and typhoon prone region normally cannot be achieved by the very often few field measurement data, or by physical simulation in wind tunnel. This study proposes a numerical simulation procedure for predicting directional typhoon design wind speeds and profiles for sites over complex terrain by integrating typhoon wind field model, Monte Carlo simulation technique, CFD simulation and artificial neural networks (ANN). The site of Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong is chosen as a case study to examine the feasibility of the proposed numerical simulation procedure. Directional typhoon wind fields on the upstream of complex terrain are first generated by using typhoon wind field model together with Monte Carlo simulation method. Then, ANN for predicting directional typhoon wind field at the site are trained using representative directional typhoon wind fields for upstream and these at the site obtained from CFD simulation. Finally, based on the trained ANN model, thousands of directional typhoon wind fields for the site can be generated, and the directional design wind speeds by using extreme wind speed analysis and the directional averaged mean wind profiles can be produced for the site. The case study demonstrated that the proposed procedure is feasible and applicable, and that the effects of complex terrain on design typhoon wind speeds and wind profiles are significant.
Considerable noise is sometimes associated with degeneration of the hee joint surface. Such noise may indicate roughness or softening of the cartilage surfaces, and may be a useful index for early disease. In this study, we have evaluated arthritic pathology using the acoustical analysis of knee joint sounds. During sitting and standing periods, subjects' active knee flexion and extension were monitored. Fundamental frequency, mean amplitude of pitch, jitter and shimmer were analyzed according to the position and the joint angle. The result showed that the fundamental frequency of the 2nd patient group and standing position was higher than the others, and that the pitch of sounds changed unstably. These results suggest that an analysis of knee joint sound might assist non-invasive diagnosis of an articular pathology.

In this paper, so as to investigate the influence of oxidizer for each metal film using the alumina-based slurry, we have peformed the W/Ti metal-CMP process by adding $H_2O_2$ as a representative oxidizer from 1 wt% to 9 wt%, respectively. As an experimental result, for the case of 5 wt% oxidizer added, the removal rates were improved and polishing selectivity of 1.4 : 1 was obtained. Also, we compared the effects of oxidizer or W-CMP process with three different kind of oxidizers with 5 wt% hydrogen peroxide such as $Fe(NO_3)_3$, $H_2O_2$, and $KIO_3$. Finally, atomic force microscope (AFM) measurements were carried out for the analysis of surface morphology and root mean square (RMS) roughness after CMP Process.
The aim of this study is to find out the relationships between the microstructures of SM45C(AISI1045) steel and fatigue crack propagation behaviour. Three microstructures such as (i) as received (fully annealed). (ii) water quenched and tempered, and (iii) oil quenched and tempered were used for fundamental mechanical testing and fatigue crack proagation test. The microstructures of (ii) and (iii) showed superior in tensile strength to (i). Resistance against fatigue crack propagation was higher in structure (i), while tensile properties were better in structures (ii) and (iii). It is believed due to that the enhancement of roughness of fracture surface obsered in structure (i) increases ${\Delta}Kth$ and lowers fatigue crack growth rate. However it does not necessarily mean the quenched and tempered structures (ii) and (iii) are undesirable for the engineering component because fatigue limit in low cycle test appears usually higher in the microstructures of higher strength.

This paper reports solution-processed, high-efficiency organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) fabricated by a knife coating method under ambient air conditions. In addition, indium tin oxide (ITO), traditionally used as the anode, was substituted by optimizing the conductivity enhancement treatment of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) films on a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate. The transmittance and sheet resistance of the optimized PEDOT:PSS anode were 83.4% and $27.8{\Omega}/sq$., respectively. The root mean square surface roughness of the PEDOT:PSS anode, measured by atomic force microscopy, was only 2.95 nm. The optimized OLED device showed a maximum current efficiency and maximum luminous density of 5.44 cd/A and $8,356cd/m^2$, respectively. As a result, the OLEDs created using the PEDOT:PSS anode possessed highly comparable characteristics to those created using ITO anodes.

The object of this study was to examine and analyze the environmental deterioration of three major trails and around peak area of Moaksan Provincial park in 1996. Trails are mostly made up at ridgeline and the slope of them is gentle. Mean trail width is 3.6m, and total length of branch trails is 982m in survey area. The environmental deterioration is derived from trail extension. Maximum eroded depth and cross-section area loss are 89cm and 14,050cm2 respectively, and gully erosion type appears at many sites. The environmental deterioration of trails is very heavy at the sections from Khui to Moaksan peak and from Moakchong to ascent part around the peak. The entire width, branch trail, maximum depth, cross-sectional area loss and surface roughness, as the indexes of trail conditions, are significantly greater at the more heavily used trails. Amount of erosion is influenced by eroded depth, longitudinal slope, runoff influence and entire width in descending order as well as the amount of use. Safety and protection facilities on the trail such as stone and soil stairs, rope handrail, stone channel and soil ditch work are built, but they are very deficient. Bared lands about 4,900m2 and fill slopes are caused and formed by recreation activities and constructions around peak area. It is required to carry the recess system and to conserve and rehabilitate the destroyed trail sites and bare fill slopes as soon as possible, before the environmental deterioration becomes critical because of increased used amount in consequence of construction of recreation parks.
Textured CeO2 buffer layers for YBCO coated conductors were deposited on biaxially textured Ni substrate by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The degree of texture of deposited $CeO_2$ films was strong1y dependent on the deposition temperature (Td) and oxygen Partial Pressure(PO2). ($\ell$00) textured $CeO_2$ films were well deposited at T=500~52$0^{\circ}C$. PO2=0.90~3.33 Torr. The surface morphology showed that the films consisted of columnar CeO2 films grown from the Ni substrates. The root mean square roughness of CeO$_2$ films estimated by atomic force microscopy(AFM) increased as the deposition temperature(Td) increa- sed. The growth rate of the $CeO_2$ films deposited at T=52$0^{\circ}C$ and PO2=2.30 Torr was 150~200 nm/min that was much faster than that of other Physical deposition methods.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the marginal discrepancy and topography of artificial crown on teeth extracted due to severe periodontal disease. Twenty specimens were invested into metamethylacrylate resin and cutted into vertical slices along with the long axis of tooth. The selected marginal discrepancy between the outer edge of the crown and the finishing line of abutment was examined by stereo- microscope(Olympus, PM-VSP-3, Japan) at magnification of up to 10, and the topography of finishing margin on crown was observed by stereomicroscopeat magnification of up to $70{\times}$. The results were as follows. (1) The mean marginal discrepancy between extracted tooth and artificial crown were $50.82{\mu}m$. (2) There was a considerable difference in the microstructure of finishing margins among specimens. Microscopic Structure on finishing margin showed indefinite line, poor fit (open, underextended and overextended), distorted margin, and surface roughness. This study suggested that there could be necessary to consider the response of periodontium to the emergence profile of natural tooth and precision of marginal geometry while establishing treatment planning for the reconsruction of the artificial crown.
Bridge hanger vibrations have been reported under icy conditions. In this paper, the results from a series of static and dynamic wind tunnel tests on a circular cylinder representing a bridge hanger with simulated thin ice accretions are presented. The experiments focus on ice accretions produced for wind perpendicular to the cylinder at velocities below 30 m/s and for temperatures between $-5^{\circ}C$ and $-1^{\circ}C$. Aerodynamic drag, lift and moment coefficients are obtained from the static tests, whilst mean and fluctuating responses are obtained from the dynamic tests. The influence of varying surface roughness is also examined. The static force coefficients are used to predict parameter regions where aerodynamic instability of the iced bridge hanger might be expected to occur, through use of an adapted theoretical 3-DOF quasi-steady galloping instability model, which accounts for sectional axial rotation. A comparison between the 3-DOF model and the instabilities found through two degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) dynamic tests is presented. It is shown that, although there is good agreement between the instabilities found through use of the quasi-steady theory and the dynamic tests, discrepancies exist-indicating the possible inability of quasi-steady theory to fully predict these vibrational instabilities.

The purpose of this study was to knitted nine kinds of single knit and examined mechanical properties and hand to provide the fact that knit, tuck and miss stitch applied to various structure have an effect on hand of weft knitted fabrics. It was good to use tuck stitch rather than miss stitch to increase elasticity of knitted fabrics. As tuck stitch and miss stitch were double or triple overlaps, tensile resilence(RT) decreased by increase of friction contacted among stitch. As cross tuck stitch and cross miss stitch were knitted double or triple, bending rigidity(B), hysteresis of bending moment(2HB) and shearing(G) properties increased by jamming of stitch. As tuck stitch and miss stitch were overlap, thickness increased and they became thicker than miss stitch. Also, as they became thicker by these tuck stitch and miss stitch, compressional energy(WC) increased. It appeared that coefficient of friction(MIU) of cross tuck stitch was larger than coefficient of cross miss stitch. Mean deviation of surface roughness(SMD) had a tendency to be larger as tuck stitch and miss stitch increased. As cross tuck stitch and cross miss stitch were overlaps double or triple, KOSHI and FUKURAMI increased, total hand value(TIV) and NUMERI appeared high in double cross tuck stitch and double cross miss stitch.
