  • Problem/Project based learning(PBL) is a student-centered teaching method in which students collaboratively solve problems and reflect their experiences. According to the results of PBL study and the experiences of the authors in PBL instruction, this paper introduced the necessities, output and significance of learning process PBL evaluation method and sums up our PBL evaluation process. The issue of appropriate and fair evaluation has been raised in untact (non-contact) university mathematics education due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) of the year 2020. To this end, when we had the course on for the summer semester held at S University in the summer of 2020. To ensure the fairness in evaluation and to improve the quality of our college math education, the PBL evaluation method was fully adapted. As a result, most of the students who took the lecture have learned a wide range of related knowledge without a single exception, and students agreed it is an ideal, fair, rational, and effective evaluation method applicable to other online courses in the era of untact education. This case was summarized in detail and introduced in this paper.

  • In today's secondary school mathematics curriculum, assessment is to be focused on evaluating the student's mathematical thinking rather than finding the correct solution to the problem. A descriptive evaluation method is therefore introduced to the school districts and suggested as an alternative assessment method in K-12 school mathematics. Descriptive evaluation method is widely available for use in schools, but there are barriers to using it since the teachers are forced to use the method by the school districts. In this research, we surveyed 120 secondary school mathematics teachers in Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area to understand the status and the perception about using descriptive evaluation. The goal of the study was to find and understand the direct implications of using the new assessment method in secondary mathematics classes. The study showed that most of the mathematics teachers used the descriptive assessment method during their regular exam periods which is given twice per semester. Most of the open-ended problems used for descriptive evaluation were medium or high level math questions which were graded by the teachers at least 3 times to ensure objective evaluation. The teachers stated that objectivity in grading, administrative situation, and development of descriptive problems were the difficult barriers in descriptive evaluation. The teachers in the survey also commented that teachers' administrative responsibility should be reduced and that school environment in general should be improved for the new assessment method to become successful. Finally, the study showed that development of more descriptive problems with specific grading guidelines need to be developed for each grade level.

  • This study aimed to analyze the shifts in the mathematics domains of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) since its inception in 1993, with the intent of identifying improvements for the future. The goal is to provide insights for exploring the direction of assessment in Korean high school mathematics education. To this end, we focused on the test system, content area, and behavioral area within the CSAT mathematics domains. Key findings include: first, the test structure influences the assessment factors and item types, in addition to the examination time and number of items. Second, by analyzing the content area, we established a correlation between the national curriculum and assessment area, and confirmed the importance of setting the assessment area. Third, the examination of the behavioral area tended to the item-type fixation, demonstrating the necessity of the ongoing modifications in evaluation item types. Building upon these findings, we discuss the direction of an evaluation that considers the evolving demands and shifts within mathematics education.

  • School Math Field Trips(SMFT) for School Mathematics can be defined as teaching and learning activity of mathematics going into the field of Korean history, culture, science and technology. This is a literature analysis study to systemize teaching and learning method of mathematics based on literature analysis and real SMFT activity. First, SMFT was introduced to improve cognitive affective and cultural-mathematical teaching and learning method of mathematics. Second, SMFT has three purposes of cognitive, affective and cultural-mathematical. Third, to conduct mathematical education activity the direction of teaching was set. Forth, the progressing way of developing material and SMFT was researched. Fifth, developing the evaluation standard of SMFT and evaluation method was suggested.

  • In this paper, we proposed the mathematics learning evaluation system between teachers and students using the web. The proposed web-based evaluation system lets learners make up their lesson in a self-oriented and effective way, by letting instructors diagnose learners level of understanding learned contents and letting learners take part in evaluation as well. The system also lets instructors easily make out items for evaluation by using hangul(word processor) and present them on the web. With the help of this web-based mathematics learning site and mathematics learning evaluation system, learners can perform self-oriented loaming and approach various kinds of problems. In addition, students can check with answers and have feedback on the spot. As a result, students can solve lack of understanding on the learned contents.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions and needs of the 2015 revised curriculum for elementary school teachers and to draw implications for the application of the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum. For this, the major changes in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum were examined. Major changes in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum are as follows: 1) Introduce and emphasize mathematical competencies, 2) Restructure the content system, 3) Reduce mathematics contents to teach, 4) Emphasize the learner's affective domain, 5) Emphasize the use of technology, 6) Improve teaching and learning methods and evaluation methods. Also, a survey was conducted for elementary school teachers to analyze the perceptions and demands of the 2015 Revised Mathematics Curriculum. The contents of the survey are consisted of contents of the teachers' awareness of the main changes of the 2015 Revised Curriculum and their demands to implement the 2015 Revised Curriculum in schools. Finally, conclusions and suggestions were drawn based on the survey results. The conclusions and suggestions are as follows: 1) there is a lack of teachers' awareness of the 2015 Revised Curriculum, 2) Support for mathematics curriculum competencies is needed, 3) A variety of teaching and learning materials are needed for emphasizing the learner's affective domain, using the technology, and improving teaching and learning methods and evaluation methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the commonality between process-focused assessment and existing performance evaluation and to find out whether the process-focused assessment is effective for the development of the character of school mathematics. By analyzing the previous research, this study defined the meaning of process-focused assessment as an evaluation that can improve students' growth and quality of class through immediate feedback by introducing various performance tasks and evaluation methods. The character of school mathematics refers to personality factors that are easily expressed and cultivated during math classes. Therefore, this study presented examples of the feasibility of process-focused assessment focusing on geometry and vector subjects and examined the effectiveness of mathematics and character development through process-based evaluation. Four course-based assessments (math experiments, logic, proof, and communication) aimed at cultivating the character of school mathematics were conducted from March to June 2019 for the third year of high school. The index was measured. Analysis of the results using the corresponding variable t-test showed that the process-based evaluation in this study had a significant effect on the character of school mathematics development.

  • The purpose of this research is to draw some implications for reducing gender differences in educational achievement of mathematics by inquiring those in mathematics-related attitudes. For this purpose, this article analyzed the gender difference in mathematics-related attitudes of the elementary, middle, and high school students. Also, mathematics-related attitudes according to achievement levels was analyzed. The findings of this study are as follows. Firstly, in the scores on mathematics-related attitudes, male students were significantly higher than those of female students. Secondly, in the evaluation of the subordinate factors of mathematics-related attitudes, gender differences were shown a little bit larger in the areas of interest and self confidence than in the area of perception of mathematics value regardless of grades. Thirdly, in all schools, the higher achievement level is, the higher the score of mathematics-related attitudes is. Lastly, gender differences on mathematics-related attitudes in advanced level group is bigger than those in other level groups.

  • This paper deals with disparities in course evaluation between general and major courses of mathematics education. We provide concrete evidences which verify the mismanagement of the evaluation system and can be an impetus to a more rational one. We indicate the direction to which professors of mathematics education should head. Also those statistics obtained from the author's teaching of mathematics education and related subjects for twelve years are provided for the fact-finding of and improving the erroneous evaluation system.
