  • A linear array acoustic transducer with 12 tonpilz elements mounted independently on a gradual wedge-shaped tail mass was fabricated, tested and analyzed. The compensated transducer, which is modified by including a series inductance of 137 µH in the developed linear array transducer, attained improved figure of merit (FOM) performance characteristics compared with the uncompensated transducer. The four resonant frequency bands were identified from the measured FOM curve. The FOM response patterns over the frequency ranges of 31 to 40 kHz and 50 to 60 kHz were relatively uniform, whereas sharp resonance peaks were observed at around 73 kHz and 84 kHz. These results indicate that the developed linear array transducer can be used as an enhanced broadband transducer of echo sounder, and the operating frequency can be selected for more effective echo surveys in the fishing ground.

  • Two perforated plates are used to investigate local heat/mass transfer characteristics in an impingement/effusion cooling system. A naphthalene sublimation method is conducted to determine the local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the upward facing surface of the effusion plate. The two plates are placed in parallel position with gap distances of 1, 2, 4 and 6 times of effusion hole diameter. The effects of hole arrangements of the plates are studied for staggered, square, and hexagonal arrays. The experiments are conducted at Reynolds number of 10,000 based on the effusion hole diameter. The results show that the smaller hole size in the staggered array has the higher transfer coefficients on the stagnation region due to the formation of higher momentum flows through the impingement holes. In the square array, heat/mass transfer on the target plate is more uniform as the number of impingement holes increases. High and uniform heat/mass transfer coefficients are obtained in the hexagonal array.

  • The Faraday cup electrode of different size has been developed and evaluated to investigate the diffusion effect of particles by Brownian motion in a particle beam mass spectrometer(PBMS). Particles which focused and accelerated by aerodynamic lens are charged to saturation in an electron beam, and then deflected electrostatically into a Faraday cup detector for measurement of the particle current. The concentration of particles is converted from currents detected by Faraday cup. Measurements of particle current as a function of deflection voltage are combined with measured relationships between particle velocity and diameter, charge and diameter, and mass and diameter, to determine the particle size distribution. The particle currents were measured using 5, 10, 20, 40 mm sized Faraday cup that can be move to one direction by motion shaft. The current difference for each sizes as a function of position was compared to figure out diffusion effect during transport. Polystyrene latex(PSL) 100, 200 nm sized standard particles were used for evaluation. The measurement using 5 mm sized Faraday cup has the highest resolution in a diffusion distance and the smaller particles had widely diffused.

  • To overcome with large size noise source distribution network design difficulty in interferometric radiometer system, especially for sub-Y-type array, a new on-board calibration technique using noise re-radiation is proposed in this paper. The suggested calibration technique is using noise re-radiation effect of center antenna after noise source injection from matched load. This approach is especially proper to sub-Y-type array interferometric synthetic aperture radiometer in mm-wave frequency band. Compared with noise injection network of a conventional synthetic aperture radiometer, the system mass, volume, and hardware complexity is reduced and cost-effective. Only one internal noise source, matched load, is used for injection using noise re-radiation technique a small set of sub-Y receiver channels is calibrated. Detailed calibration scenario is discussed and simulation results about noise reradiation effect are presented.

  • Based on the results of studies on acetone excretion in diabetic patients, a one - chip sensors array was fabricated by combining acetone-selective sensor materials and volatile-organic-compound sensitive sensor materials. An electonic-nose was implemented using a sensor array and confirmed selectivity for five gases. In this system, the excretion of diabetic patients and controls was sampled with solid phase microextraction fiber and transferred to the sensor array. Although the control and diabetic patients were distinct, several samples failed. In the control group, the results of blood tests were normal, but patients were highly obese. In addition, the gas chromatography mass spectrometry results for the subjects revealed chemicals that are external factors.

  • This study was performed to suggest to suggest suitable design conditions of water curtain system through analysis on pressure down in boreholes by hydraulic tests carried out I construction fields for underground oil storages. The influence by hydraulic conductivities of rock mass around boreholes on pressure down in boreholes was analysed. The relationship between array of boreholes and their pressure down was also analysed. Groundwater flow analysis on crude oil and LPG storages was carried out to evaluate results of field tests and to investigate distribution of hydraulic gradient in rock mass around cavern using finite difference method. As the results, hydraulic tests showed that pressure down in boreholes was inverse proportional to the hydraulic conductivity of surrounding rock mass. The rate of pressure down of boreholes was not influenced by water curtain system more than 20m over cavern and was proportional to installation interval of boreholes. The hydraulic gradient in rock mass around cavern was proportional to distance and interval of boreholes and its value was not satisfactory to oil tightness condition in case of no water curtain system.

  • The local heat/mass transfer coefficients for arrays of impinging circular air jets on a plane surface are determined by means of the naphthalene sublimation method. Spent fluid makes a crossflow in the confined space. The crossflow reduces heat/mass transfer at the small gap distance between the jet plate and impingement surface because of reentrainment of the spent fluid. The present study suggests a new exhaust system having effusion holes in the impinging jet plate. The spent air flow out after impingement just through effusion holes located in the upper plate. This system increases heat/mass transfer coefficients and uniformity for small gap distances$(H/d{\leq}2)$

  • Resulting from reproducibility and possibility of mass production. many researches to fabricate micro lens array using lithography have been developed. However, it still remains the level of fabricating compensation lens. Therefore, to realize the fabrication of lens having high numerical aperture can be the key technology of ultra slim optical system. Reflow phenomenon have been researched to make lens having high refractive power. And through those researches, the possibility to fabrication of high refractive power lens has been investigated. In this paper, we analyze the effect of many parameters in reflow process to get an aspheric shape with high repeatability. And we make possible to estimate shape error, through we give direct information about decrease in volume of photoresist.

  • Based on the requirements of a total weight of 42 kg or less, the NEXTSat-2 SAR (synthetic aperture radar) system was developed. As the NEXTSat-2 is a small-sized satellite, the SAR system was designed to account for about 40% of the dry mass of the payload relative to the total mass. Among the major components of the SAR system - which are an antenna, an RF transceiver, a baseband signal processor, and a power unit - a part with a particularly large dry mass is the antenna, the core of the SAR system. Whereas various selections are possible in consideration of gain and efficiency when designing the antenna, the micro-strip patch array antenna was adopted by reflecting the dry mass, power, and resolution required by the NEXTSat-2 project. In order to meet the mission requirement of the NEXTSat-2, the antenna was developed with a frequency of 9.65 GHz, a gain of 42.7 dBi, and a return loss of -15 dB. The performance of the antenna was verified by conducting a field test onboard the vehicle.
