Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the factors of health beliefs, cultural barriers, and intentions of cervical cancer screening behaviors in married immigrant women and provide information for the development of intervention programs. Methods: The subjects were 207 married immigrant women living D and S cities, and G and Y counties. The data were collected from April to June 2019, using a self-report structured questionnaire that was translated into English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean, and analyzed by the SPSS/WIN 24.0 program. Results: As a result of this study, it was found that the intention of cervical cancer screening for married immigrant women were high when they had a job (β=-.17, p=.014), experience of Pap testing within the past year (β=-.28, p<.001), experience of cervical cancer prevention education (β=-.18, p=.008), and a higher perceived sensitivity (β=.18, p=.016). All of these variables together explained 22% of the intention of cervical cancer screening behaviors in immigrant women married to Korean men. Conclusion: In order to increase the cervical cancer screening behaviors in married immigrant women, intervention strategies to increase perceived susceptibility and decrease cultural barriers for immigrant women should be developed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of family-of-origin differentiation, ego identity, and attitudes toward children on marital intimacy among married men and women. The participants of this study were 261 married men and 274 married women whose marital period were less than 14 years, and whose first child was less than 12 years old and who were living in Chungbuk Province. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentages, ttest, F-test with Tukey test for post-hoc test, Cronbach ${\alpha}$ for reliability analysis, factor analysis, and Pearson's correlation using the SPSS program(12.0 version). The model test was done with analysis of correlational matrix by the AMOS 5.0 package using a maximum likelihood estimation. Family of origin differentiation, ego identity, and attitude toward children had different effects on marital intimacy according to gender. Also, ego identity was the strongest predictor of men's marital intimacy whereas attitude was the strongest for women's marital intimacy.
The main purpose of this article was to examine the general tendency of self-disclosure and perceived self-disclosure in married couples, and to study the effect of demographic variables on them. and to find out how dyadic trust affects on self-disclosure in married couples. Considering those purposes, the following research questions have been raised : 1) What is the general tendency of self-disclosure in married couples? 2) What is the general tendency of perceived self-disclosure in married couples? 3) Does perceived self-disclosure affect on self-disclosure in married couples? 4) How do the demographic varibles affect on self-disclosure in married couples? 5) Does dyadic trust affect on self-disclosure in married couples? To solve these questions, a questionnaires which consisted of 8 items for demographic variables, of which 8 questions are for dyadic trust, and 36 questions for self-disclosure in married couples was made. This reserch 몽 been conducted from April 4, 1990 to April 15, 1990. which surveyed 560 married men and women who are living in Seoul. Only answers from 432 married men and women were analysed out of them. The analytic methods adopted in this study were the frequency, the perentage, t-test, oneway ANOVA, DUNCAN -tst, and pearson's r. Especially SPSS/${pc}^+$ program was used in order to promate the feasibility in statistical analysis. The major findings of the study are as follows : 1) Self-disclosure in married couples in generally higher than expected(M=40.4) : wife's self-disclosure(M41.5) is higher than husband's self-disclosure(M=39.4) 2) Between self-disclosure and perceived self-disclosure in married couples correlated considerably high(husband r=0.67, wife r=.75) 3) Self-disclosure in married couples are affected by the variables such as age, length of marriage, everage family income a month. 4) Self-disclosure in married couples correlated relatively low with dyadic trust(husband r=0.21, wife r=.31)
Applying the data from 64 single(26 men and 38 women) and 71 childless married men and women(37 men and 34 women) aged between 30 and 45, this study is to understand their future fertility intention. For this purpose, ideal and real number of children that participants plan to have were compared using paired t-test. Second, demographic variables(sex, age, marital status), child care related variables(thoughts about caring children, child care value), individual characteristics(gender role attitude, relation orientation) and social context variables(perceived economic condition, recognition of low fertility policies) were included in a stepwise regression model to explain expected number of children participants plan to have in the future. Results showed that ideal number of children participants wish to have was significantly higher than real number of children they expect to have in the Korean society. The stepwise regression model explained 35% of the variance of the dependent variable. Among four types of variables, child care related variables most powerfully explained expected number of children study participants plan to have in the future. Finally, age, child care value, gender role attitude, and relation orientation significantly explained expected number of children in the future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health promotion behavior and contraception in married immigrant women. Method: Seventy-three immigrant women who were married with Korean men were recruited in October 2008. Data was collected by using questionnaires through a personal interview. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, t-test, and ANOVA. Result: The lowest scoring part among health promotion behaviors was exercise. Stress management, eating habits and personal relationships followed. Health promotion behaviors were influenced by the age at marriage, frequency of going out, and health education experiences. Only 35.6% of subjects used contraception. The popular contraceptive methods were IUD, condom, and coitus interruptus. Most subjects got information about contraception from family and friends. 18.1% of subjects had no source of information. The women's education level had a significant influence on their contraceptive knowledge. Conclusion: Programs for exercise and contraception are needed to improve health promotion behaviors in married immigrant women. Nurses are an important part in health promotion. The role of nurses must be expanded in all communities through various intervention programs.
This study aimed to explore the social networks which married immigrant women have in Korea. Special attention was paid to factors such as individual, family, and migrant characteristics contributing to the different patterns of social networks. I drew upon the nationally representative data on 60,719 immigrant women married to Korean men from the '2009 Survey on Korean National Survey on Multicultural Families.' Results showed that the foreign wives tended to maintain a connection with our society through contact with their neighbors and participation in social gatherings. Findings also showed that the types of social networks by the number of trusted neighbors and meetings were diverse among the immigrant women. In addition, the factors differentiating the types were mostly associated with socioeconomic resources or Korean proficiency. More interestingly, the immigrant women's contacts with their family members in their homeland contributed to their maintenance of more active social networks. These results provided a useful outlook on the relationship between patterns of social networks and the characteristics of the married immigrant women, which eventually showed a heterogeneous nature among them. At the societal level, supportive systems for enriching immigrant women's social networks should be developed particularly in terms of not their dependency, but their potential contributions to our society.
The objective of this study were to explore rural adults' awareness of marriage. The data were collected from 369 adults 20 aged and over living in the rural and analysed by marital status and sex, using SPSS/win program. The major finding of this study were as follows; 1) In the mate selection, rural adults valued personality(41.9%) above everything else without difference in sex or marital status. However, while most of unmarried women preferred white collar worker, educated in the college and over, and $1{\sim}4$ older than them, most of married and unmarried men preferred housewives, educated in the high school, and $3{\sim}4$ younger than them. Also, women wanted to live in the urban after the marriage. 2) In connection with wedding ceremony, most of rural adults preferred modern wedding ceremony, appropriately within their circumstance, and general ceremony hall except the unmarried women. 3) Only 45.9% of unmarried women agreed to marriage compared to 74.5% of unmarried men. The unmarried, especially unmarried women, liked more than the married to love marriage. 4) Rural women have more modern attitude toward the marriage than rural men.
This study analyzes the food frequency for the elderly regarding different family types and finds the factors for nutritional risk, offers a basic reference for providing nutritional support for them. The study referred to the dietary behavioral survey data of 3,680 elderly people (1652 male and 2028 female) from 21 regions in the northern Kyeonggi province. The data was collected through the method of one-to-one interviews and was a part of the Community Health Survey for 2008 by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC). We classified family types as a household for elderly people living alone, a household of elderly people with a spouse, a household of the elderly with unmarried children and a household of the elderly with married children, and as for intakes of foods, the frequencies of taking fruits, vegetables, kimchi, rice with mixed cereals, meat, fish, bean tofu soymilk, milk and dairy products, as well as sweet beverages are calculated on a daily basis and skipped meals are calculated on a weekly basis. Elderly women showed lower income, lower education level, higher unemployment rates, and a higher rate of government healthcare subsidies than elderly men. Elderly women tend to live alone and with their children while elderly men tend to live with their spouse. In both males and females, the intake of fruits and vegetables were the least in the elderly living alone, while the elderly with married children ate the most. In both males and females, the household of the elderly living alone ate significantly less amounts of Kimchi than other family types. Elderly people living alone tended to have significantly less meat and fish, especially women. In the case of rice with mixed cereals, the elderly men living alone and the elderly men with unmarried children ate significantly less amounts than the elderly men living with a spouse. The elderly men living alone took significantly less milk and dairy products than the elderly men with unmarried children while the elderly women living with a spouse took significantly less milk and dairy products than the elderly women with married children. With regards to the frequency of meal-skipping, the elderly living alone had the highest frequency for skipping meals. From this result, having various foods is difficult for the elderly living alone. Furthermore, the elderly living with unmarried children demonstrated a low quality of dietary life compared to those of married children. Hence, it can be concluded that social support is important in order for the elderly to have a balanced diet.
This paper was examined socio-demographic characteristics influencing married women's fertility plans in Korea. Few studies have focused on fertility plans by using census data, and therefore this study employs 2010 census 2% sample data. It focuses on differential characteristics influencing not only whether women have plans for additional children but also how many additional children women plan to have. Women's age, age at marriage, employment status, number of children, and number of sons are consistently associated with their fertility plans and planned number of additional children. The educational level is positively related to plans for additional children for both men and women, and the effect weakens or disappears with an increase in the planned number of additional children. The result showing consistent positive effect of the number of sons reflects son preference in Korea. Positive effects of women's high educational attainment and employment status on fertility plans may reflect the importance of economic stability but requires further research.
