In agricultural field experiments, the completely randomized block design is often used for the analysis of variety trials. An important assumption is that every experimental unit in each block has the some fertility. But, in most agricultural field experiments there often exists a systematic heterogeneity in fertility among the experimental units. To account for the heterogeneity, we propose to use the hierarchical generalized linear models. We compare our analysis of the data from Scottish Agricultural colleges list with that using Markov chain Monte Carlo method.

Wireless body area network (WBAN) is a promising candidate for future health monitoring system. Nevertheless, the path to mature solutions is still facing a lot of challenges that need to be overcome. Energy efficient scheduling is one of these challenges given the scarcity of available energy of biosensors and the lack of portability. Therefore, researchers from academia, industry and health sectors are working together to realize practical solutions for these challenges. The main difficulty in WBAN is the uncertainty in the state of the monitored system. Intelligent learning approaches such as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) were proposed to tackle this issue. A Markov Decision Process (MDP) is a form of Markov Chain in which the transition matrix depends on the action taken by the decision maker (agent) at each time step. The agent receives a reward, which depends on the action and the state. The goal is to find a function, called a policy, which specifies which action to take in each state, so as to maximize some utility functions (e.g., the mean or expected discounted sum) of the sequence of rewards. A partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDP) is a generalization of Markov decision processes that allows for the incomplete information regarding the state of the system. In this case, the state is not visible to the agent. This has many applications in operations research and artificial intelligence. Due to incomplete knowledge of the system, this uncertainty makes formulating and solving POMDP models mathematically complex and computationally expensive. Limited progress has been made in terms of applying POMPD to real applications. In this paper, we surveyed the existing methods and algorithms for solving POMDP in the general domain and in particular in Wireless body area network (WBAN). In addition, the papers discussed recent real implementation of POMDP on practical problems of WBAN. We believe that this work will provide valuable insights for the newcomers who would like to pursue related research in the domain of WBAN.
The conceptual model of under-sampled study area will include a great amount of uncertainty. In this study, we investigate the applicability of Markov chain model in a spatial domain as a tool for minimizing the uncertainty arose from the lack of data. A new formulation is developed to generalize the previous two-dimensional coupled Markov chain model, which has more versatility to fit any computational sequence. Furthermore, the computational algorithm is improved to utilize more conditioning information and reduce the artifacts, such as the artificial parcel inclination, caused by sequential computation. A generalized 20 coupled Markov chain (GCMC) is tested through applying a hypothetical soil map to evaluate the appropriateness as a substituting model for conventional geostatistical models. Comparing to sequential indicator model (SIS), the simulation results from GCMC shows lower entropy at the boundaries of indicators which is closer to real soil maps. For under-sampled indicators, however, GCMC under-estimates the presence of the indicators, which is a common aspect of all other geostatistical models. To improve this under-estimation, further study on data fusion (or assimilation) inclusion in the GCMC is required.
Automatic word spacing is a process of deciding correct boundaries between words in a sentence including spacing errors. It is very important to increase the readability and to communicate the accurate meaning of text to the reader. The previous statistical approaches for automatic word spacing do not consider the previous spacing state, and thus can not help estimating inaccurate probabilities. In this paper, we propose two statistical word spacing models which can solve the problem of the previous statistical approaches. The proposed models are based on the observation that the automatic word spacing is regarded as a classification problem such as the POS tagging. The models can consider broader context and estimate more accurate probabilities by generalizing hidden Markov models. We have experimented the proposed models under a wide range of experimental conditions in order to compare them with the current state of the art, and also provided detailed error analysis of our models. The experimental results show that the proposed models have a syllable-unit accuracy of 98.33% and Eojeol-unit precision of 93.06% by the evaluation method considering compound nouns.
In this paper, the PLP cepstrum which is close to human perceptual characteristics was extracted through the spread time area to get the temperal feature. Phonemes were recognized by artificial neural network similar to the learning method of human. The phoneme strings were matched by Markov models which well suited for sequence. Phoneme recognition for the continuous Korean speech had been done using speech blocks in which speech frames were gathered with unequal numbers. We parameterized the blocks using 7th order PLPs, PTP, zero crossing rate and energy, which neural network used as inputs. The 100 data composed of 10 Korean sentences which were taken from the speech two men pronounced five times for each sentence were used for the the recognition. As a result, maximum recognition rate of 94.4% was obtained. The sentence was recognized using Markov models generated by the phoneme strings recognized from earlier results the recognition for the 200 data which two men sounded 10 times for each sentence had been carried out. The sentence recognition rate of 92.5% was obtained.
This paper proposes a sequential state estimation model consisting of continuous and discrete variables, as a way of generalizing all discrete-state factorial HMM, and gives a design of gait motion model based on the idea. The discrete state variable implements a Markov chain that models the gait dynamics, and for each state of the Markov chain, we created a Gaussian process over the space of the continuous variable. The Markov chain controls the switching among Gaussian processes, each of which models the rotation or various views of a gait state. Then a particle filter-based algorithm is presented to give an approximate filtering solution. Given an input vector sequence presented over time, this finds a trajectory that follows a Gaussian process and occasionally switches to another dynamically. Experimental results show that the proposed model can provide a very intuitive interpretation of video-based gait into a sequence of poses and a sequence of posture states.
Word segmentation errors occurring in text preprocessing often insert incorrect words into recognition vocabulary and cause poor language models for Korean large vocabulary continuous speech recognition. We propose an automatic word segmentation algorithm using Markov chains and syllable-based n-gram language models in order to correct word segmentation error in teat corpora. We assume that a sentence is generated from a Markov chain. Spaces and non-space characters are generated on self-transitions and other transitions of the Markov chain, respectively Then word segmentation of the sentence is obtained by finding the maximum likelihood path using syllable n-gram scores. In experimental results, the algorithm showed 91.58% word accuracy and 96.69% syllable accuracy for word segmentation of 254 sentence newspaper columns without any spaces. The algorithm improved the word accuracy from 91.00% to 96.27% for word segmentation correction at line breaks and yielded the decomposition accuracy of 96.22% for compound-noun decomposition.

In this paper, we report on the development of a speaker independent continuous speech recognition system using continuous hidden Markov models. The continuous hidden Markov model consists of mean and covariance matrices and directly models speech signal parameters, therefore does not have quantization error. Filter bank coefficients with their 1st and 2nd-order derivatives are used as feature vectors to represent the dynamic features of speech signal. We use the segmental K-means algorithm as a training algorithm and triphone as a recognition unit to alleviate performance degradation due to coarticulation problems critical in continuous speech recognition. Also, we use the one-pass search algorithm that Is advantageous in speeding-up the recognition time. Experimental results show that the system attains the recognition accuracy of $83\%$ without grammar and $94\%$ with finite state networks in speaker-indepdent speech recognition.

Recently, Worm epidemic models have been developed in response to the cyber threats posed by worms in order to analyze their propagation and predict their spread. Some of the most important ones involve mathematical model techniques such as Epidemic(SI), KM (Kermack-MeKendrick), Two-Factor and AAWP(Analytical Active Worm Propagation). However, most models have several inherent limitations. For instance, they target worms that employ random scanning in the network such as CodeRed worm and it was able to be applied to the specified threats. Therefore, we propose the probabilistic of worm propagation based on the Markov Chain, which can be applied to cyber threats such as Mass SQL Injection worm. Using the proposed method in this paper, we can predict the occurrence probability and occurrence frequency for each threats in the entire system.
