  • The objective of this study was to evaluate some clinical aspect of the crown inclination in Korean's naturally occuring optimal occlusion, and to statistically compare the crown inclination at Andrews' FA points group and another bracket slot level group based on marginal ridges. The materials consisted of study models of 30 patients (14; Korean's males, 16; Korean's females) who have nonorthodontic normal occlusion. The results were as follows; 1. Mean, standard deviation, range of clinical inclination in the Andrews' FA points and another bracket slot level were obtained. 2. Statistically difference between Andrews' FA points group and bracket slot level group based on marginal ridge was non significant (p > 0.05). But standard deviation and range in FA points group was more stability than marginal ridge group. 3. A lingual crown inclination at FA points in the upper posterior teeth existed (canines through molars). 4. The lingual crown inclination at FA points in the lower dentition progressively increased from the incisors through the second molars.

  • Graphical regression is a paradigm for obtaining regression information using plots without model assumptions. The general goal of this approach is to find lowdimensional sufficient summary plots without loss of important information. Model assessments using residual plots are less likely to be successful in models that are not linear. As an alternative approach, marginal model plots provide a general graphical method for assessing the model. We apply the methods of graphical regression and model assessment using marginal model plots to the logistic regression model.

  • For the marginal model and generalized estimating equations (GEE) method there is important full covariates conditional mean (FCCM) assumption which is pointed out by Pepe and Anderson (1994). With longitudinal data with time-varying stochastic covariates, this assumption may not necessarily hold. If this assumption is violated, the biased estimates of regression coefficients may result. But if a diagonal working correlation matrix is used, irrespective of whether the assumption is violated, the resulting estimates are (nearly) unbiased (Pan et al., 2000).The quadratic inference functions (QIF) method proposed by Qu et al. (2000) is the method based on generalized method of moment (GMM) using GEE. The QIF yields a substantial improvement in efficiency for the estimator of ${\beta}$ when the working correlation is misspecified, and equal efficiency to the GEE when the working correlation is correct (Qu et al., 2000).In this paper, we interest in whether the QIF can improve the results of the GEE method in the case of FCCM is violated. We show that the QIF with exchangeable and AR(1) working correlation matrix cannot be consistent and asymptotically normal in this case. Also it may not be efficient than GEE with independence working correlation. Our simulation studies verify the result.

  • To study the mechanical behaviors of the margins of porcelain-fused-to-metal crown on the posterior teeth, 5 types of margins on the lower first molar were chosen, and then the finite element models were constructed. 50kg forces were applied to the porcelain on the axial wall supported by the metal vertically. The displacements and stresses of the porcelain-fused-to-metal crown were analyzed to investigate the influence of the type of margins. The results were as follows; 1. High tensile stresses were exhibited on the porcelain of the portion of the coronal line angle insufficient metallic support. 2. In case metal coping had a good supporting form to vertical force, uniform compressive stresses were exhibited on their supporting form. 3. Tensile stresses in the inframetallic margin on the series of the shoulder with a bevel margins were decreased in the bevel portion. 4. Principal stresses on the metal of the chamfer marginal portion were decreased comparing with the series of the shoulder margins. 5. The noticeable compressive stress gradients were exhibited between axial cement layer and metal on the series of the shoulder margins. 6. The principal stresses on the marginal cement layer were higher than that of the occlusal surface and axial wall.

  • Machine learning (ML) models based on artificial neural network (ANN) and decision tree (DT) were developed for estimation of axial capacity of concrete columns reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars. Between the design codes, the Canadian code provides better formulation compared to the Australian or American code. For empirical models based on elastic modulus of FRP, Hadhood et al. (2017) model performed best. Whereas for empirical models based on tensile strength of FRP, as well as all empirical models, Raza et al. (2021) was adjudged superior. However, compared to the empirical models, all ML models exhibited superior performance according to all five performance metrics considered. The performance of ANN and DT models were comparable in general. Under the present setup, inclusion of the transverse reinforcement information did not improve the accuracy of estimation with either ANN or DT. With selective use of inputs, and a much simpler ANN architecture (4-3-1) compared to that reported in literature (Raza et al. 2020: 6-11-11-1), marginal improvement in correlation could be achieved. The metrics for the best model from the study was a correlation of 0.94, absolute errors between 420 kN to 530 kN, and the range being 0.39 to 0.51 for relative errors. Though much superior performance could be obtained using ANN/DT models over empirical models, further work towards improving accuracy of the estimation is indicated before design of FRP reinforced concrete columns using ML may be considered for design codes.

  • In this paper, we investigate a Bayesian inference for software reliability models based on mean value functions which take the form of the mixture of beta distribution functions. The posterior simulation via the Markov chain Monte Carlo approach is used to produce estimates of posterior properties. Its applicability is illustrated with two real data sets. We compute the predictive distribution and the marginal likelihood of various models to compare the performance of them. The model comparison results show that the model based on the beta-mixture performs better than other models.

  • We study estimation and inference of joint conditional distributions of bivariate longitudinal outcomes using regression models and copulas. We consider a class of time-varying transformation models and combine the two marginal models using Gaussian copulas to estimate the joint models. Our models and estimation method can be applied in many situations where the conditional mean-based models are inadequate. Gaussian copulas combined with time-varying transformation models may allow convenient and easy-to-interpret modeling for the joint conditional distributions for bivariate longitudinal data. We apply our method to an epidemiological study of repeatedly measured bivariate cholesterol data.

  • This study is to assess the effect of preload level on the stress development at the marginal cortical bone surrounding implant neck. A finite element model was created for a single implant placed in the lower jaw bone. An external load of 100N was applied on the top of abutment at 30 degree with the implant axis in lingo-buccal direction. Five different preloads, i.e. 0, 200, 400, 600, 800N were applied to the abutment stem to investigate if and/or how the preload affects on the marginal bone stress. Differences in the marginal bone stress were recorded depending on the level of preload. On the other hand, the tensile stress on the marginal cortical bone decreased in models of higher preload. Preloads between abutment/fixture can increase compressive stresses in the marginal cortical bone although the amount may be insignificant as compared to those generated by functional forces.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal and internal gap of metal coping fabricated using additive manufacturing (AM) group and subtractive manufacturing (SM) group by dental computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems. Twenty same cases of stone models of abutment teeth 16 by the universal numbering system were manufactured and scanned. Ten metal copings of control group were fabricated using SM and ten metal coping of experimental group were fabricated using AM. Marginal and internal gap of copings were measured using the silicone replica technique and digital microscope (${\times}140$). The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 21.0 Statistical Software for independent samples t-test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Mean${\pm}$ standard deviation (SD) of marginal and internal gap total size of SM group was $101.00{\pm}40.33{\mu}m$ of AM group was $83.61{\pm}40.37{\mu}m$. Mean${\pm}$SD of marginal and internal gap total size of SM group was significantly greater than that of AM group (p<0.05). This study showed that AM metal copings had a better marginal and internal gap than SM metal copings.

  • Statement of the problem. The interest in all-ceramic restorations has increased as more techniques have become available. With the introduction of machinable dental ceramics and CAD/CAM systems or Copy-milling systems there is a need for evaluating the quality levels of these new fabrication techniques. Purpose. This study was to evaluate the fitting accuracy of machined all-ceramic crowns made out of an industrially prefabricated feldspathic porcelain. Material and Methods. Three master models with different cutting depth (0.8mm/1.0mm/1.2mm)were produced using a palladium-silver alloy. A total of 36 working dies, 12 of each form, was used for the modellation of prototype resin copings and 36 additional crowns, 12 of each cutting depth, were produced by using the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ system for all crowns. The maginal fit of all 72 crowns was then evaluated on their respective master die at 54 circularly staggered points of measurement per crown under a fixation pressure of 30 N by using a computerized video image system. Results. The medians of the copy-milled $CELAY^{(R)}$ crowns ranged from 29 to $36{\mu}m$. The highest value for the marginal gap was found in group B (cutting depth 1.0mm) at $107{\mu}m$. The median for the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ crowns was found between 43.5 and $70{\mu}m$. The maximum values for all three groups ranged from $181{\mu}m$ to $286{\mu}m$. With $286{\mu}m$ the highest value for marginal gap was found in group C. the Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple comparisons analysis procedure revealed a significant influence of the production technique on the marginal fit in all three groups (p<0,02). Conclusion. 1. The $CELAY^{(R)}$ system is capable to produce all-ceramic crowns with a significantly better marginal fit than the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ system. 2. As far as premolar crowns produced with the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ system are concerned, the cutting depth has a significant influence on fitting accuracy. 3. The production of crowns with an acceptable marginal fit is possible with both systems. However, adhesive luting is recommended for milled feldspathic porcelain crowns.
