  • This paper describes preliminary results we have obtained in developing a computer vision system based on active IR illumination for real time gaze tracking for interactive graphic display. Unlike most of the existing gaze tracking techniques, which often require assuming a static head to work well and require a cumbersome calibration process for each person, our gaze tracker can perform robust and accurate gaze estimation without calibration and under rather significant head movement. This is made possible by a new gaze calibration procedure that identifies the mapping from pupil parameters to screen coordinates using the Generalized Regression Neural Networks (GRNN). With GRNN, the mapping does not have to be an analytical function and head movement is explicitly accounted for by the gaze mapping function. Furthermore, the mapping function can generalize to other individuals not used in the training. The effectiveness of our gaze tracker is demonstrated by preliminary experiments that involve gaze-contingent interactive graphic display.

  • The prediction method of future events using the time histories of velocity or pressure, etc., is a useful way for controlling various air vehicles. For example, the sensors of velocity or pressure can be used to extract the time mode coefficients of eigenmode of flow field, and then the result is applied to suppress wake or drag. The velocity information is mapped to the entire flow field, so this mapping function can be used to predict the future events based on the current information. The mapping function is composed of the huge amount of weight parameters, so the efficient way of finding these parameters is needed. Here, the neural network algorithm is studied to draw a mapping function using the number and location of velocity sensors.

  • We show that every $\varepsilon-approximate$ Jordan functional on a Banach algebra A is continuous. From this result we obtain that every $\varepsilon-approximate$ Jordan mapping from A into a continuous function space C(S) is continuous and it's norm less than or equal $1+\varepsilon$ where S is a compact Hausdorff space. This is a generalization of Jarosz's result [3, Proposition 5.5].

  • Leakage current of CMOS circuits has become a major factor in VLSI design these days. Although many circuit-level techniques have been developed, most of them require significant amount of designers' effort and are not aligned well with traditional VLSI design process. In this paper, we focus on technology mapping, which is one of the steps of logic synthesis when gates are selected from a particular library to implement a circuit. We take a radical approach to push the limit of technology mapping in its capability of suppressing leakage current: we use a probabilistic leakage (together with delay) as a cost function that drives the mapping; we consider pin reordering as one of options in the mapping; we increase the library size by employing gates with larger gate length; we employ a new flipflop that is specifically designed for low-leakage through selective increase of gate length. When all techniques are applied to several benchmark circuits, leakage saving of 46% on average is achieved with 45-nm predictive model, compared to the conventional technology mapping.

  • This study applied image processing techniques, constructed to real-time, to thermal infrared camera image. Thermal infrared image data was utilized for hot mapping, cool mapping, and rainbow mapping according to changing temperature. It was histogram image processing techniques so that detected shade contrast function of the thermal infrared image, and the thermal infrared image's edge was extracted to classification of object. Moreover, extraction of temperature from image was measured by using the image information program.

  • The merit of fuzzy rule based systems stems from their capability of encoding qualitative knowledge of experts into quantitative rules. Recent advancement in automatic tuning or self-organization of fuzzy rules from experimental data further enhances their power, allowing the integration of the top-down encoding of knowledge with the bottom-up learning of rules. In this paper, methods of self-organizing fuzzy rules and of performing defuzzification and inference is presented based on a multi-resolution radial basis function network. The network learns an arbitrary input-output mapping from sample distribution as the union of hyper-ellipsoidal clusters of various locations, sizes and shapes. The hyper-ellipsoidal clusters, representing fuzzy rules, are self-organized based of global competition in such a way as to ensute uniform mapping errors. The cooperative interpolation among the multiple clusters associated with a mapping allows the network to perform a bidirectional many-to-many mapping, representing a particular from of defuzzification. Finally, an inference engine is constructed for the network to search for an optimal chain of rules or situation transitions under the constraint of transition feasibilities imposed by the learned mapping. Applications of the proposed network to skill acquisition are shown.

  • In this paper, we approximate a fuzzy almost cubic function by a cubic function in a fuzzy sense. Indeed, we investigate solutions of the following cubic functional equation $$3f(kx+y)+3f(kx-y)-kf(x+2y)-2kf(x-y)-3k(2k^2-1)f(x)+6kf(y)=0$$. and prove the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability for it in fuzzy Banach spaces.

  • We use the fixed alternative theorem to establish Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the quadratic functional equation where functions map a linear space into a complete quasi p-normed space. Moreover, we will show that the continuity behavior of an approximately quadratic mapping, which is controlled by a suitable continuous function, implies the continuity of a unique quadratic function, which is a good approximation to the mapping. We also give a few applications of our results in some special cases.

  • Baldwin defined the approximate reasoning using truth function mapping. In paper [4], we defined two truth function mappings and applied these truth function mappings to generalized modus ponens. In this paper, we introduce the results of generalized modus tollens using these two truth function mappings.
