용해로의 공정상 온도상승 및 과전류에 따른 케이블의 절연저항 특성 (Characteristics of Insulation Resistance of Cable according to Temperature Rise and Over-Current for Process of the Melting Furnace)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the trend in insulation resistance values according to temperature and overcurrent by conducting an investigation on the actual condition and experiments on the electrical wiring during the melting furnace process. In addition, the Arrhenius equation is used to determine whether temperatures in the furnace operating process can be applied to the actual field. In the investigation of the actual condition, the insulation resistance started to decrease seven years after replacement, even though cables in oil pump A were replaced in 2010. Both the experimental and theoretical values of the insulation resistance obtained using the Arrhenius equation decreased with an increase in temperature. Errors in insulation resistance (MΩ) values between tests and the Arrhenius equation ranged from ±2 to ±10, demonstrating a high similarity. Results revealed that when the insulation resistance cannot be measured in a manufacturing workplace (quarterly analysis), it can be estimated by partially applying the Arrhenius equation.

소규모 사업장 보건관리대행기관의 간호업무 운영관리 지원체계 (Management and Supporting System on the Occupational Health Nursing Services Provided in Group Occupational Health Agencies of Korea)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the management and support system affecting to the occupational health nursing services(OHNS) provided in group occupational health agencies(GOHA). Questionnaire was developed and distributed to 82 nurses who were working in GOHA and who agreed to participate in the survey. The results were as follow: 1. OH nurses responded were mostly in the age of twenty to thirties(89%), married(73.7%), technical college graduates(88.9%), worked in hospital(85.4%) and participated more than 1 year in group occupational health services (96.3%). 2. Fifty eight point four percent of the OH nurses worked in number of workplace more than 30 to less than 60 in the OHNS form. The figure of workplaces undertaken by nurses was ranged greatly from 9 to more than 100. Number of employees who cared by nurses were mostly under 5,000 peoples in 93.3%. The types of industry was mostly manufacturing and located in the order of factory complex area, suburban, urban and others. 3. Most OH nurses(87.8%) were fully involved in the OHNS for the SSE. Their working days to visit SSE was 5 days per week(77.8%) and one day in the GOHA at 41.3%. 4. The OH documents using by nurses were found in more than 23 different types. However, they were largely summarized in the types of 'Workplace Health Management Card', 'Personal Health Counselling Card', 'Daily Health Management Report', 'Visiting List of Workplace' and 'Sick Employee List'. 5. The items of laboratory test provided by GOHA were mostly achieved in the purpose of basic health examination. They were used to be the blood pressure check(98.8%), blood sugar test (98.8%), urine sugar and protein(91.4%), SGOT and SGPT(85.3% each), cholesterol (82.9%), hepa vaccine immunization(82.9%), r-GPT(81.7%), hemoglobin(79.3%) and triglyceride(75.5%). 6. The OH nurses(92.7%) followed the work pattern to visit the GOHA before and after small-scale enterprises(SSE) visit by car driven by nurses in 74.3%. They were payed by GOHA for transportation fees in certain amounts. However, nurse is the main person(75.0%) who covers up in case of traffic accident. If the GOHA has no transportation regulation for the formal workplace visit, data showed that nurses had been responsible to take charge(31.7%). 7. The personnel manager who takes in charge for nursing services was 'nurse' in 61.7% and 41.2% worked as the final decision maker related to nursing work. The OH nurses' opinions about factors affecting to the management were classified in the four areas such as 'Nature(Quality) of health professional'. 'Content of OHNS', 'Delivery system of the GOHS', and 'Others'. The factors were indicated highly in 'Authority as health professional', 'Level of perception of director on the OH' and 'Physical work condition for OHNS'. The things that this study suggests in the recommendation would be summarized in such as the management and supporting system working for SSE in the OHNS is necessary to reform thoroughly. The reconsidered aspects might be in the matters of number of workplaces undertaken by nurses, development of effectively practical health documents, preparation for guideline of the laboratory test in the workpleces, establishment of convenient and encouraging support system and cooperation between other health professionals with respect and skill.

지게차 사용 사업장에서 디젤엔진배출물질 노출지표에 관한 연구 (A Study on Exposure Indices for Diesel Engine Exhaust in Forklift Operating Areas)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the exposure levels of forklift operators to diesel engine exhaust(DEE) using black carbon(BC), elemental carbon(EC), and nitrogen dioxide($NO_2$) as indicators. Methods: A total of eight forklift operators in six collection companies were assessed over a period of two months from July to September 2015. BC was measured using a real-time monitor and respirable EC samples were analyzed using the NIOSH method 5040. $NO_2$ samples were collected using a passive badge-type sampler. Results: The geometric mean of BC, EC and $NO_2$ were $3.1-19.1{\mu}g/m^3$, $2.1-23.8{\mu}g/m^3$, and 12.5-166.6 ppb at all companies. When forklifts were operating both outside and inside, BC concentrations increased 2.0-5.6 times. The highest increase was observed when forklifts were operating indoors. The increase in BC concentrations varied by company(company A: 2.0 times, B: 3.2 times, C: 5.6 times, D: 2.1 times, E: 5.1 times, F: 2.6 times). The geometric mean of BC, EC, and $NO_2$ for the forklift operators was $9.6{\mu}g/m^3$, $7.9{\mu}g/m^3$, and 48.9 ppb, respectively. The geometric mean of BC, EC, and $NO_2$ for manufacturing workers was $9.3{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.9{\mu}g/m^3$, and 85.2 ppb, respectively. The mean BC and EC exposure levels for the forklift operators were slightly higher than those for manufacturing workers, but $NO_2$ levels for manufacturing workers were higher than those for the forklift operators(p>0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that diesel exhaust emissions standard, forklift weight and forklift manufacturer were the most influential factors in determining worker exposure. Conclusions: In the DEE work environment, workers who perform tasks within the workplace as well as inside forklifts as operators are likely to be exposed to a lack of ventilation. Further study of forklift operators' exposure to DEE indicators should be conducted to include a wider range of occupational and environmental situations, such as collection procedures, seasonal situations, types of fuel used, and number of forklifts.

비금속광물 제품제조업에서 발생하는 분진 농도와 분진 노출기준 적용에 따른 문제점 고찰 (The concentrations of airborne dust in non-metallic products factories and problems associated with the application of the occupational exposure limits)

  • This study was carried out to estimate current status of dust concentrations in the factories producing non-metallic products in Korea. Data were gathered from the environmental monitoring reports by 40 workplace environmental monitoring institutes and the questionnaire designed for the study by the authors. A total of 1838 dust samples from 368 plants were obtained from the reports and were analyzed with no data modifications. But data on asbestos, rock wool, and welding fumes were excluded in this evaluation. The factories were classified into eight groups according to the standard industrial classification scheme in Korea. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The factories included were glass, non-refractory ceramic, refractory ceramic ware, structural non-refractory clay and ceramic, cement and lime, articles of concretes, and stone. Mean(geometric mean) concentrations of total dust samples ranged from $1.75(0.84)mg/m^3$ to $5.87(2.84)mg/m^3$. Statistically significantly higher dust concentrations were found in the cement and lime industries compared with other industries. 2. The non-compliance rates were 15.2% in glass and 20.6% in other non-metallic mineral products industries. Although all institutions surveyed utilized the identical sampling and classification scheme for dusts as specified in the current occupational exposure limits, wide discrepancies were found in collecting samples and classifying dusts. Further problems were discovered in classifying dusts. A dust sample collected could be classified into any of the three groups regardless of silica content. The results of this study showed that dust concentrations in the non-metallic products industries varied widely. Also discovered was classification errors of dust types among workplace monitoring institutes. These errors could adversely affect the results of exposure assessments and the true nature of dust hazards. Further, no institutions performed respirable dust sampling and analysis of crystalline silica. In order to correct these malpractices, current standards of occupational exposure limits should be revised and tight supervision by the Ministry of Labour be suggested.

만성유기용제 폭로에 의한 정신신경학적 이상소견의 현장진단방법 개발에 관한 연구 (Development of an On Site Diagnostic Tool to Detect Neuropsychiatric Impairment due to Chronic Organic Solvent Exposure)

  • A study has been conducted on developing questionnaires to serve as on site diagnostic tools for the early detection of neuropsychiatric impairment among workers chronically exposed to low-level organic solvents. Two drafts of tentative questionnaires have been developed as follows; several question items were selected from questionnaires which were administered to workers exposed to organic solvents in previous studios and were grouped into each symptom category based on the presence of its association using Guttman scaling method, then these selected items were reviewed by neuropsychiatry specialists. The final draft of the questionnaire (total symptom score=36) was developed by selecting 33 question items which had more than a 0.88 Guttman coefficient of reproducibility in each symptom category from a pilot study in which these tentative questionnaires were administered to workers manufacturing soles. Three plants using organic solvents and one plant never using organic solvents as a control group were selected to test the reliability and validity of the developed questionnaires. The major organic solvent in the workplace environment detected by a personal air sampler and GC/MSD nab toluene. The concentration of toluene in air from the department using organic solvent was statistically different from that of the department never using organic solvent. The concentration of toluene from almost all of the workplace did not exceed the allowable level. There was no statistically significant difference between the concentration of urinary hippuric acid from the workers of the department using organic solvent and that of the department never using it. Total symptom score of the plant never using organic solvents was 9.8 and those of the three plants using organic solvents were 15.6, 14.7, and 13,7 respectively. In order to evaluate the validity of the questionnaires, the workers from two different departments of the plant in which usage of organic solvents are totally dofferemt were compared. The total symptom score was 17.8 for workers of the department using organic solvent and 13.5 for the department never using organic solvent and scores of each symptom group between exposure and non-exposure group also showed statistically significant difference. The finding that total symptom score of the exposure group increased as the duration of employment increased indirectly suggests the usefulness of the developed questionnaire to assess the health effects of chronic exposure to organic solvents. The correlation coefficient, which was calculated to evaluate the test-retest reliability, was 0.581 (p=0.001). The coefficient of Crohnbach which reflects the internal consistency of the questionnaire was 0.91. In conclusion, the reliabilty of the questionnaire was well maintained over the time lapse between the two administrations of the questionnaire and despite the seasonal difference.

근로자 안전을 확보하기 위해 실시하는 사업주에 의한 작업중지권 현장 실태조사 (On-site Investigation of Work Cease Rights Conducted by Employers to Ensure Worker Safety)

  • 연구목적: 고용노동부의 산업안전보건법에 따르면 산업재해를 막기 위해 급박한 위험이 닥쳤을 때는 작업중지권을 행사할 것을 규정하고 있다. 본 연구는 실제 태풍과 같이 급박한 위험이 닥쳤을 때 사업장에서 사업주에 의한 작업중지권 이행여부에 대한 실태조사를 수행하였고, 그 결과에 따른 시사점 및 작업중지권 활성화를 위한 방안을 도출하고자 한다. 연구방법: 제6호 태풍 '카눈'의 영향이 컸던 8월 9일~10일, 2일간 사업장의 작업중지 실시 여부를 유선으로 확인하였고, 조사대상은 건설업 1,649개소, 제조업 830개소, 그리고 기타 업종 278개소로 총 2,757개소이다. 연구결과: 실태조사 결과를 보면, 8월 9일에는 56%(1,555개소), 8월 10일에는 77%(2,142개소)가 전면 또는 부분 작업중지를 실시하였다. 특히, 태풍이 상륙했던 8월 10일에는 전체 40%가 전면적으로 작업을 중지하였다. 결론: 본 연구를 통해 사업주에 의한 작업중지권이 실제 사업장에서 활용되고 있음을 확인하였다. 앞으로도 급박한 위험이 있는 경우에는 작업중지권 외에도 유연 및 재택근무, 근로시간 조정 등을 적극적으로 활용하여 근로자의 안전을 보장하고 생명을 보호해야 할 것이다.

  • This study attempted to provide implications by analyzing the impact of business Owner's safety commitment on industrial accidents and examining the mediating role of management supervisors' safety leadership and worker participation. Analysis was conducted on 2,067 manufacturing sites with 20 to 50 employees in the 10th Occupational Safety and Health Survey data. SPSS waw used to secure the reliability of the measurement variable. Hypothesis vertification was carried out after securing the suitability and validity of the structural model using AMOS. The direct impact of three latent variables on industrial accidents was confirmed: the business owner's safety commitment, the management supervisor's safety leadership, and the worker participation. The employer's safety will and the management supervisor's safety leadership do not directly affect industial accidents, but it has been verified that worker participation has a diret impact on industrial accident reduction. In addition, it has been confirmed that the safety leadership and worker participation of the management. Supervior have a complete mediating effect on the reduction of industrial accidents by mediating with the safety leadership of the management supervior and the participation of the workers. This study analyzed the impact on industrial accidents by dividing the stakeholders constituting the workplace into three classes: business owners, superviors, and workers, but the results suggest that employers and all workers inside the workplace may be organically linked to achieving the goal of reducing industrial accidents. Therefore, in order to establish an autonomous safety management system for safety and health at workerplaces, efforts are needed to reduce industrial accidents in their respective location by forming an organic community among internal stakeholders.

만성적 소음노출이 혈압에 미치는 영향에 대한 코호트연구 (Cohort Study for the Effect of Chronic Noise Exposure on Blood Pressure among Male Workers)

  • 장기간의 소음노출에 의한 혈압상승 또는 고혈압의 발생에 대해서는 많은 연구에도 불구하고 결과가 다양하고 논란이 많은 실정이다. 이에 연구자는 혈압에 대한 소음의 영향을 보다 정확히 평가하기 위해서 일개 사업장을 대상으로 유사 노출군의 코호트를 구성하고 9년간의 추적조사를 실시하였다. 여기서 얻은 자료를 이용하여 소음노출수준별로 혈압의 연도별 변화경향을 파악하고, 혼란변수를 통제한 상태에서도 혈압의 변화에 대해 소음노출이 영향을 미치는가를 파악하고자 하였다. 부산지역의 일개 금속제품 제조업에서 근무하고 있는 530명의 남자 근로자를 1991년부터 1999년까지 혈압을 9년간 매년 계속 추적조사 하였으며, 조사 대상자들을 근무여건과 노출되는 소음수준(noise level category, 이하 NLC로 약함)에 따라 NLC-I (사무실 근로자, 60dB(A) 미만으로 노출, 155명), NLC-II(현장 기술지원자 및 검사원, 소음에 비정기적으로 노출, 75명), NLC-III (현장근로자, 85 dB(A)이하로 노출, 귀마개 또는 귀덮개를 착용, 167명), NLC-IV (현장근로자, 85 dB(A) 초과 노출, 귀마개와 귀덮개를 동시에 착용, 133명) 의 4군으로 구분하였다. 추적기간동안 소음수준별 혈압은 분산 분석을 이용하여 비교하였고, 혼합선형모형을 이용하여 추적기간동안(1992-1999년)의 보정된 통합평균혈압을 구하고 소음노출수준별로 비교하였다. 고려된 혼란변수는 기준연도(1991년)의 연령, 흡연여부, 음주량, 운동, 고혈압 가족력, 수축기 및 확장기 혈압과 체질량지수의 변화였다. 기준연도의 혈압과 혼란변수를 보정한 상태에서 각 연도별 혈압을 비교한 결과 수축기혈압은 9년째에서, 확장기 혈압은 2년째에서 대조군과 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었으며, 대조군의 평균 혈압이 전반적으로 증가되었다. 추적기간동안 혼란변수를 보정한 통합수축기 혈압은 대조군인 NLC-I과의 차이가 NLC-II는 1.7 mmHg, NLC-III는 2.0 mmHg, NLC-IV는 3.8 mmHg이었고, NLC-IV의 경우 그 차이가 통계학적으로 유의하였다. 확장기혈압의 경우에는 소음노출수준별로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 본 연구는 남성근로자에서 장기간의 소음노출은 혈압의 상승에 독립적인 영향이 있음을 시사하였다.

남성 사무직근로자의 심뇌혈관질환 위험요인에 따른 건강행위, 웰니스 상태 및 건강행위변화단계의 관계 (Relationships among Health Behavior, Wellness Condition, and Stage of Change in Health Behavior by Cardiocerebrovascular Risk in Male Office Workers)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among health behavior, wellness condition, and stage of change in health behavior by risk of cardiocerebrovascular diseases (CVD) in male office workers. Methods: A total of 205 male office workers participated in the 2017 National Health Examination at a manufacturing/ R&D business in Seongnam and completed self-reported questionnaires. Results: There were significant differences in health behavior scores by risk of CVD (F=4.78, p=.009) and statistically significant differences in no smoking (F=5.86, p=.003), exercise (F=5.49, p=.005), and health checkup (F=4.39, p=.014). There were statistically significant differences in health behavior (t=-4.14, p<.001) and wellness condition (t=-2.61, p=.010) by the stage of change in health behavior. Health behavior had a weak positive correlation with wellness condition (r=.36, p<.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that, when adjusted for age and employment period, the probability of becoming attention or risk group was 11% lower for quitting smoking (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.81~0.97, p=.006) and 18% lower for regular exercise (OR 0.82, 95% CI 0.70~0.95, p=.009). Conclusion: The direction of health management at the workplace should be changed to promote the wellness of all workers, not the management of the disease, and a health promotion program should be continued to emphasize health behaviors such as smoking cessation and regular exercise.

Chemical Properties of Indoor Individual Particles Collected at the Daily Behavior Spaces of a Factory Worker

  • The main purpose of the study was to clarify the properties of individual particles collected at each behavior space of a factory worker. The samplings of size-segregated ($PM_{2.1-1.1}$ and $PM_{4.7-3.3}$) indoor particles were conducted at three different behavior spaces of a factory worker who is engaged in an auto parts manufacturing plant (i.e., his home, his work place in factory, and his favorite restaurant). Elemental specification (i.e., relative elemental content and distribution in and/or on individual particles) was performed by a micro-PIXE system. Every element detected from the coarse particulate matters of home was classified into three groups, i.e., a group of high net-counts (Na, Al, and Si), a group of intermediate net-counts (Mg, S, Cl, K, and Ca), and a group of minor trace elements (P, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Pb). The results of EF for $PM_{4.7-3.3}$ in home indicated that several heavy metals were generated from the sources within the house itself. An exceptional feature shown in the individual particles in workplace is that Cr, Mn, and Co were clearly detected in both fine and coarse particles. Cluster analysis suggested that the individual coarse particles ($PM_{4.7-3.3}$) collected at the indoor of factory were chemically heterogeneous and they modified with sea-salt, mineral, and artificially derived elements. The principal components in individual coarse particles collected at restaurant were sea-salt and mineral without mixing with harmful trace elements like chromium and manganese. Compared to the indoor fine particles of home and restaurant, many elements, especially, Cl, Na, Cr, Mn, Pb, and Zn showed overwhelmingly high net-counts in those of factory.
