The maneuvering performance of a ship on the actual sea is very different from that in calm water due to wave-induced motion. Enhancement of a ship's maneuverability in waves at the design stage is an important way to ensure that the ship navigates safely. This paper focuses on the maneuvering prediction of a Russian trawler in wind and irregular waves. First, a unified seakeeping and maneuvering analysis of a Russian trawler is proposed. The hydrodynamic forces acting on the hull in calm water were estimated using empirical formulas based on a database containing information on several fishing vessels. A simulation of the standard maneuvering of the Russian trawler was conducted in calm water, which was checked using the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards for ship maneuvering. Second, a unified model of seakeeping and maneuvering that considers the effect of wind and waves is proposed. The wave forces were estimated by a three-dimensional (3D) panel program (ANSYS-AQWA) and used as a database when simulating the ship maneuvering in wind and irregular waves. The wind forces and moments acting on the Russian trawler are estimated using empirical formulas based on a database of wind-tunnel test results. Third, standard maneuvering of a Russian trawler was conducted in various directions under wind and irregular wave conditions. Finally, the influence of wind and wave directions on the drifting distance and drifting angle of the ship as it turns in a circle was found. North wind has a dominant influence on the turning trajectory of the trawler.

Tracking error performance is investigated for the typical maneuvering pattern of the anti-ship missile for tracking filters based on IMM filter in both clear and cluttered environments. Threatening targets to a navel vessel can be categorized into having three kinds of maneuvering patterns such as Waver, Pop-Up, and High-Diver maneuvers, which are classified according to launching platform or acceleration input to be applied. In this paper, the tracking errors for three kinds of maneuvering targets are represented and are investigated through simulation results. Studying estimation errors for each maneuvering target allows us to have insight into the most threatening maneuvering pattern and to construct the test maneuvering scenario for radar system validation.
The mathematical model used in the simulation of ship's maneuvering contains the hydrodynamic coefficients, which are usually evaluated based on PMM model tests in the towing tank and used to predict ship's maneuvering performance when applied to the proto-type ship. The proper mathematical model has to be developed to predict ship's maneuvering motions with hydrodynamic coefficients very well. The mathematical model for PMM model tests is analyzed with identification program and the hydrodynamic coefficients and maneuvering motions by system identification we compared with those obtained directly from PMM model tests and sea trial. The mathematical model for PMM model tests was established and the magnitudes of ship's maneuvering coefficients were determined. When the identified values of coefficients were used to simulate the maneuvers, a very good agreement was obtained between the numerically simulated motion responses and those obtained from PMM model tests.
In this paper, we propose a new approach to intelligent motion and autonomous maneuvering of mobile robots using hybrid system. In high Level, the discrete states are defined by using the sensor-based search windows and the reference motions of a mobile robot as a low vevel are specified in the abstracted motions, The mobile robots can perform both the motion planning and autonomous maneuvering with obstacle avoidance in indoor navigation problem. Simulation and experimental results show that hybrid system approach is an effective method for the autonomous maneuvering in indoor environments.

In this paper, we propose a new adaptive single model to track a maneuvering target with abrupt accelerations. We utilize the stochastic differential equation to model acceleration of a maneuvering target with stochastic volatility (SV). We assume the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH) process as the model for the tracking procedure of the SV. In the proposed scheme, to track a high maneuvering target, we modify the Kalman filtering by introducing a new GARCH model for estimating SV. The proposed tracking algorithm operates in both the non-maneuvering and maneuvering modes, and, unlike the traditional decision-based model, the maneuver detection procedure is eliminated. Furthermore, we stress that the improved performance using the GARCH acceleration model is due to properties inherent in GARCH modeling itself that comply with maneuvering target trajectory. Moreover, the computational complexity of this model is more efficient than that of traditional methods. Finally, the effectiveness and capabilities of our proposed strategy are demonstrated and validated through Monte Carlo simulation studies.
Most of the ShipHandling Simulators of full-mission-bridge system need vast area to install and even PC-based maneuvering simulators are often equipped with Steering Wheel or Engine Telegraphe etc. of data input interface, which necessarily makes the user face with excessive financial burden. These have been one of the obstacles for the officers, captains, pilots and students in access to maneuvering simulation whenever they want to try it in advance prior to actual ship maneuvering. Subsequently, all the officers and captains come to have little chances to train themselves until they arualified as a pilot after a long period of time of realship maneuvering practice on board, which means they have to control they have to control their own ship at sea without clear understanding on her maneuverability when they are forced to do it on the way. And these lack of capability for maneuvering have used so often to result in marine casualties of collision with other ships or pier facilities while maneuvering in harbor. To prevent those accidents by means of enhancing their maneuvering ability, PC-based DeskTop Simulator that allows anyong to access readily at anytime is needed and in conformation to such demand this simulator has been developed. The Software this simulator written in Turbo Pascal Ver. 5.0 has adopted MMG mathmatical model theoretically in part and also it was designed to make it possible that all numeric data inputs and outputs with graphic presentation for maneuvering operation be carried out just only with keyboard and monitor console. With the Simulation software, all the officers, captains, pilots and even students who has a proper computer at hand are expected to be able to make an attempt to simulate the maneuvering of their ownship or any other types of them at any port in which they want to do it.
Ship maneuvering performance is usually estimated in calm water conditions which provide valuable information about the ship maneuvering characteristics at the early design stage. However, the course-keeping ability and the maneuvering performance of a ship can be significantly affected by the presence of waves when ship maneuvers in real sea condition. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the maneuvering behavior of a ship in waves in the viewpoint of ship safety in the design stage. In this study, the force and yaw moment acting on a moving ship in regular waves with different wave length and wave direction will be performed in the square wave tank in Changwon National University. The results of this study can be used to help a person to design a ship hull with the best ship maneuverability in waves and disseminate knowledge on predicting ship maneuvering in regular waves in various wave directions.
In this paper, we consider the maneuvering detection and target tracking problem in uncertain linear discrete-time systems. The maneuvering detection is based on X$^{2}$ test[2,71, where Kalman filters have been utilized so far. The target tracking is performed by the maneuvering input compensation based on a maximum likelihood estimator. KF has been known to diverge when some modelling errors exist and fail to detect the maneuvering and to track the target in uncertain systems. Thus this paper adopt the FIR filter[l], which is known to be robust to modelling errors, for maneuvering detection and target tracking problem. Various computer simulations show the superior performance of the FIR filter in this problem.
This is concerned with the development and design of automatic maneuvering system using Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS). To achievement of autonomous maneuvering controller for giant ship, first, we investigated automatic maneuvering controller using DGPS in motor car. The sensors are configured with DGPS and digital compass. We calculated velocity and steering angle of motor car based on sensor signal. To design the controller, we derived the bicycle model and developed critically damped controller. The critically damped controller can be tracing previously appointed position in the fastest time. We are used a laptop computer to realize and the control algorithm is programmed by visual basic software. The obtained experimental results from developed system show unmanned motor car is good tracing planed positions. Hence, the system is looking forward to use the autonomous maneuvering control fur giant ship.

Questionnaire survey on performance requirement of ship’s speed such as not only accuracy but also response and robustness were carried out, and the experiments to survey the GPS performances of static and dynamic characteristics were carried out simultaneously. In this paper, the questionnaire survey focusing on docking maneuvering, some analytic results of the survey, the results of GPS performance, and the possibility of adaptation for docking maneuvering on SDME and GPS are discussed. Consequently, from the results of questionnaire survey the performance requirement of ship’s speed in docking/anchoring maneuvering have need under 1cm/sec on the standard deviation, and speed information from GPS was adopted to use maneuvering information in docking/anchoring.
