A Study on Physical and Psychological Violence in Dating among Male and Female Adolescents. (고교생의 이성교제 중 신체적, 심리적 폭력사용에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamics of dating violence among male and female adolescents. Out of 1205 high school students. 90.6%(n=1092) was included for the final analysis. 120 students(11.9%) reported to have experienced physical violence with a dating partner at least once or more. The most frequently used forms of violence were pushing and grabbing. Both of aggressors and victims interpreted the violence as an expression of love and affection. Coping behavior of victims were quite passive, while aggressors tried to apologize and to make-up. Most of victims were angry about violence. while aggressors felt sorry for their behavior. 72.5% of respondents reported that the relationship remained unchanged or got better after the violence. while 26.7% answered their relationship was terminated or got worse. 157 respondents(14.4%) reported to have experienced psychological violence at least once or more. Shouting and insulting language or behavior were most frequently used. Coping behavior of victims was mostly negotiation and communication. Based on the findings of this study, suggestions were made in regard to student guidance and counseling for dating aggression.

  • The purpose of this study is to ponder men's perception and experience of military service revealed in Korean society by looking into the military service exception cases of a Korean male dancer. this study used non-participation observation, in-depth interviews and bibliographic data, etc. targeting a total of 6 persons covering 3 male dances who received military service privileges by winning a prize at home & overseas dance concours, and another 3 male dancers who fulfilled military duties. Then, this study did a qualitative analysis of the collected data. The deducted results through this process are as follows: First, all the surveyed male dancers consented to the necessity of military service as Korean people, but it was found that they wished to get miliary service privileges in order to maintain the career they actually had achieved. Second, the male dancers, who fulfilled military service, were found to make endless effort to catch up with the tendencies of dance suited for the relevant period after returning to society due to career discontinuity and social severance caused in the process of fulfilling military service.

Relationship between Body Satisfaction and Appearance Enhancement Behavior of College Students (대학생의 성에 따른 신체만족도와 외모향상행동과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between body satisfaction and appearance enhancement behavior of college students. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 234 college students in Cheong-ju area, Korea. Frequency, descriptive analysis, $x^2$ and t-tests were used for data analysis. Male students were generally satisfied with their height but not with their weight, while female students were not satisfied with their height and weight. There were significant gender differences in satisfaction with their skin color: male students were mostly satisfied with their skin color other than female students. The body satisfaction degree of college students depended on gender: the male students showed more satisfaction with their physical condition than the female students. Of the college student's improving-appearance behaviors such as face-lifting by plastic surgery, make-up by cosmetics and skin care, their preferable choice depended on their gender. When purchasing clothes, they considered if the clothes could cover their defects of their body line and improve their physical appearance. The levels of body satisfaction were significantly different according to their appearance enhancement behaviors.

Differences of Appearance Management Behaviors and Life Satisfaction among Lifestyle Groups (라이프스타일 집단별 외모관리행동과 삶의 만족도의 차이분석)

  • We provide an empirical assessment that examines the differences in appearance management behavior, life satisfaction and demographic variables between groups classified by individual lifestyle. Questionnaires were administered to 513 female and male adults over 17 years of age in the Daegu and Kyungbok metropolitan regions. Descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ANOVA, Duncan test and ${\chi}^2$ test were applied to analyze data from 513 respondents. The results are as follows. First, we did a cluster analysis on the appearance management behavior of weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. Four groups (passive, rational, fashion oriented, and active typed) where classified according to individual lifestyle. Second, the rational and active groups were more interested in the social life, environmental stability, health, fashion and economic seeking life. They were also more involved in appearance management behavior and in a higher level of life satisfaction. However, the differences of life satisfaction among the lifestyle group (male) were not statistically significant. Third, females with higher level of income and education (among the demographic variables) belonged to the active group. We found significant differences in appearance management behavior, life satisfaction and demographic variables among male and female groups classified by lifestyle.

  • Tomas Gutiérrez Alea, internationally famous cuban director, made the film Up to a certain point with a purpose of criticizing the existence of the extreme male chauvinism as 'machismo' in cuban society of 80's despite of many changes of cultural and social paradigms through 60's and 70's. The director gathered the themes and topics of the films like Lucia, One way or another, and Teresa's portrait and analyzed them to present alternatives. The way of approaching to solve that kind of social problems that Alea proposed to the spectator is taking time to think of the problems with a way of "The Viewer's Dialectic". Identification with the protagonist of the film(thesis) and alienation from him(antithesis) could make the audience generalize the diverse aspects of the problem and then one might get an insight(synthesis) to live the life with more satisfaction that is supposed to be a social function of the film as arts according to the director of the film Up to a certain point.

The Study on the TV Female Anchor's Image according to the Make Up and Hair Style (메이크업과 헤어스타일 유형에 따른 TV 뉴스 여자 앵커의 인상형성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide data that can be used to suggest idealistic anchor's image to capture ratings for the news program and to suggest guide for casting and training anchors for the broadcasting stations by examining the idealistic looks and images of TV news anchors by asking the general viewers who watch TV, The research methods was questionnaire survey. The subjects were 839 male and female audiences in theire 20's and 40's who residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The study results are as follows: 1) The factors that decide impression of a female anchor The factors that decide female anchor's impression were 'specialty factor, friendliness factor, elegance factor, dynamic factor, and attractiveness factor'. 2) The difference in formation of impression according to makeup and hair style of a female anchor In case of specialty and friendliness factors scored high when putting on natural makeup, dynamic factors scored high when putting on elegant makeup, and attractiveness factor when putting on natural and romantic makeup. All factor were high when a female anchor had short-cut style and straight hair 3) Formation of anchor's impression from makeup and hair style according to the perceiver's variables (gender and age) Male and female audiences both gave hish score for a female anchor's specialty such as 'confident and reliable' and friendliness such as 'warm and comfortable' when a female anchor puts on natural makeup. They gave high score for attractiveness factor such as' good impression and refined' when putting on romantic makeup and high score for dynamic factor such as 'positive and confident' when putting on elegant makeup. Both male and female audiences gave high score fur all except friendliness factor when a female anchor had short-cut style compared to bobbed hair and high score far specialty factor when a female anchor had straight hair. The audiences both in their 20's and 40's gave high score for specialty and friendliness when a female anchor put on natural makeup while the perceivers at their 20's gave high score for elegance and dynamic factor when a female anchor put on elegant makeup. The audiences both in their 20's and 40's gave high score for all factors when female anchor had short-cut hair.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate personality traits of oriental medical students in graduating class by using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Methods : The subjects of this study were 164 (male 108, female 56) oriental medical students in Busan. MMPI scores were analyzed about validity scales, clinical scales and personality disorder scales in aspects of whole student, attendant year, gender and ages. Results & Conclusions : First, The average scores of MMPI scales showed that oriental medical students in graduating class lay within the range of normal. There was no difference among attendant years, and averages of each year made little difference to whole student. The students belonged to 'defensive group' that were doing adaptive defense relatively Second, in comparison with gender, female students got more social adaptability and less stress than male students. In comparison with ages, group of $28{\sim}42$ years old tended to make up themselves with defensive attitude.

  • This study's purpose is how express gender image according to sex in editorial fashion photography. This study's objectives are the women's magazine Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and man's magazine GQ, Esquire published 2000-2005 within the country. The photography was classified with established a standard based on the precede studies. The photo is classified Gender image according to dress and its ornaments, model character and atmosphere by Sex Expression of femininity woman has exposure of body parts and emphasizing thin eyebrows and red lips, soft and mild image, modest and static pose. Man expressed femininity used ladylike color and pattern, erotic exposure of body and long hair style. Commonly emphasizing red lips, natural background of flower plant, S-line. For expression of masculinity man and woman are used masculinity item, short hair-style and thick eyebrows. And also emphasize square like chin and shoulder. Specially, woman used direct silhouette to conceal soft body curved line. The expressions of androgynous woman and man are colorful dress and make-up. Woman emphasized male face to show and man expressed soft image through hull of abundant material of fur. All two sex selected method that conceal body curved line and face to express sexless. Hiding characteristics of body and face make indistinct of sex. The gender is affected by atmosphere such as model and illumination background as much as clothes because of the editorial fashion photography.

A Study on the Courtship Violence among Unmarried College Students I (미혼대학생의 혼전 단계에서의 신체적 폭력의 경험에 관한실태조사연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the incidence and dynamics of permarital abuse among never-married college students. 21.3% of 497 male and female respondents reported that they had experienced premarital violence at least once. Types of violence most frequently used were pushing or shoving slapping and throwing objects. It is interesting that both victims and aggressors interpret violent acts as expression of love most of all. Behavioral response to violent acts were to try to make up to talk to the partner and to apologize. In general the respondents had negative attitudes toward violence in premarital and marital relationships. Males showed more positive attiutudes toward violence than females. This sex difference appeared to have some inflence on marital abuse, In is suggested that counseling program and shelter for victims of severe violence need to be developed.

Differences of Appearance Management Behaviors among Clothing Consumption Value (의복소비가치에 따른 집단별 외모관리행동의 차이)

  • We intend an empirical assessment of examining the differences in the appearance management behaviors and demographic variables among groups classified by the clothing consumption values. The questionnaires are administered to 493 female and male adults above 20 years old in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Daegu and Kyungpook regions. For analysis of data from 478 respondents, descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ANOVA, Duncan test and ${\chi}^2$ test were applied. We show the following results. First, Factor analyses were employed for the clothing consumption values and appearance management behaviors. Six factors were for clothing consumption values: Individuality, appearance attractive, social, functional, conditional and fashion clothing consumption value. Four factors were for appearance management behaviors: weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. According to clothing consumption values, four groups were classified: the passive, functional, social, and active group. We did cluster analysis to the appearance management behaviors of weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. Second, the social and active groups were more interested in individuality, appearance attractive, social, functional, conditional and fashion clothing value. And they were also more involved in appearance management behaviors. Third, among the demographic variables, the single and female in 20s and 30s with higher level of education belonged to the active group. In this contribution, we find significant differences in the appearance management behavior and demographic variables classified by the clothing consumption values.
