THE EFFECT ON GUIDED BONE REGENERATION OF THE CHITOSAN MEMBRANE (키토산 차단막의 유도골재생 효과)

  • Using the rat's skull, the study on the biodegradability and guided bone regeneration of the chitosan membrane was performed. The results are as follows: 1. The biodegradability of the chitosan membrane could not be confirmed, but after 12 weeks, this membrane did not yet break into small pieces and there was no specific local tissue reaction. 2. It was not certain whether the pore size of this membrane was affected on osteoblastic activity. 3. After 6 weeks, the bony defect area of rat's skull was not completely filled, but on high magnification it showed that the osteoclasts and the osteoblasts were observed in the regenerating area. In conclusion, the chitosan membrane developed in this study was fit for guided bone regeneration.

Comparison of the marginal fit of POM restorations with different thickness of metal copings (코핑 두께의 차이에 따른 POM 보철물의 변연적합도 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the marginal fit of POM restorations with 3 different thickness of metal coping. Methods: 2.0mm Occlusal reduction, 1.0mm preparation of axial wall with 6degree taper, and chamfer margin was prepared a maxillary first premolar on dentiform. Duplicate prepared die and, make 30 individual dies with Ni-Cr metal. Make 3 groups of 30 press ceramic on Metal crown with different thickness of metal coping; 10 of 0.1mm, 10 of 0.3mm, 10 of 0.5mm thickness metal coping. The marginal fit of the crowns was evaluated 50 points per 1 crown, around the crown margin circumference under a optical microscope at original magnification ${\times}100$. A 1-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare data. Results: The mean marginal discrepancy for POM with 0.1mm metal copings was $72.56{\mu}m$, $67.83{\mu}m$ for 0.3mm metal coping POMs, and $72.56{\mu}m$ for 0.5mm metal coping POM. The 1-way ANOVA showed significant difference among 3 groups. Conclusion: The marginal fit of pressed-on-metal (POMs) was best with 0.3mm thickness of metal coping, fallowing by 0.1mm, and 0.5mm in the order.

ADMINISTRATION OF CROTON OIL EFFECTED IN THE INTESTINAL MUCOUS CELL OF MICE (파두유(巴豆油) 투여(投與)가 생쥐의 장관점액세포(腸管粘液細胞)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • In order to study the effect of croton oil on the mucous cell in the mice intestin the experimental animals were injected with 0.1gm body weight of croton oil through intraperitoneally. They were sacrificed by ether anesthesia and obtained from distal small intestine and duodenum and colon, and fixed in 10% meutral formal. After embedded in paraffin, sectioned in 5 micro thickness, and stained with P.A.S (Periodic Acid Schiffis) reaction. The average number of the mucous cell was counted in each specimen over 20 fields under 450 magnification. The following results were obtained; 1) An average number of mucous cell began rapidly increase from 15 min and reached high average number after injection of croton oil of mucous cell from 30-60 min after injection. 2) An average number of mucous cell rapidly increase after injection of croton oil and were not reduced normal level by time lapsed 48 hrs. 3) The mucous cell showed with tape of time after injection of croton oil. A type and B type decrease and showed recovery C type decrease and recovery. 4) According to the above findings, it is presumed that croton oil accelerate secretion of mucin of the mucouse cell and production of mucin in growing mucous cell.

Fabrication of Microstructure Array using the Projection Microstereolithography System (전사방식 마이크로광조형을 이용한 배열 형태 미세 구조물 가공)

  • Microstereolithography technology is similar to the conventional stereolithography process and enables to fabricate a complex 3D microstructure. This is divided into scanning and projection type according to aiming at precision and fabrication speed. The scanning MSL fabricates each layer using position control of laser spot on the resin surface, whereas the projection MSL fabricates one layer with one exposure using a mask. In the projection MSL, DMD used to generate dynamic pattern consists of $1024{\times}768$ micromirrors which have $13.68{\mu}m$ per side. The fabrication range and resolution are determined by the field of view of the DMD and the magnification of the projection lens. If using the projection lens with high power, very fine microstructures can be fabricated. In this paper, the projection MSL system adapted to a large surface for array-type fabrication is presented. This system covers the meso range, which is defined as the intermediate range between micro and macro, with a resolution of a few ${\mu}m$. The fabrication of array-type microstructures has been demonstrated to verify the performance of implemented system.

Optical Design of a Zoom Eyepiece (Zoom접안경에 대한 광설계)

  • By Gaussian optics, a zoom eyepiece is analyzed, which has the diameter of exit pupil 0.5 em, eyerelief 1 em, and angular magnification $M_a=7~15$. The initial design is based on this analysis. Telescope objective which was previously designed has focal length($(f_u')$ 21.0 em, and its clear aperture is 6.2 em. Zoom telescope has half field angle $\beta=1.5^{\circ}$ at the entrance pupil and at exit pupil it is $\beta'=1.5^{\circ}\times(7~15)=10.5^{\circ}~22.5^{\circ}$. Zoom eyepiece consists of three groups, of which each one satisfies the Seidel 3,d order aplanatization. Final design is obtained by optimization for the finite ray aberration, and the zoom eyepiece is assessed on the basis of the resolution of eyes.f eyes.

  • A system of infrared camera optics with wide field of view and anamorphic lenses is proposed, and its validity verified through manufacture. The infrared camera produced provides a wide field of view of over 100 degrees in the horizontal direction, and an even greater magnification in the vertical direction. As a result, the system can have a wider surveillance range and improved detection ability at the same time. In addition, a new optomechanical automatic athermalization mechanism is proposed and applied to the infrared camera. Its performance and utility is proved through testing.

3D Image Correlator using Computational Integral Imaging Reconstruction Based on Modified Convolution Property of Periodic Functions

  • In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) image correlator by use of computational integral imaging reconstruction based on the modified convolution property of periodic functions (CPPF) for recognition of partially occluded objects. In the proposed correlator, elemental images of the reference and target objects are picked up by a lenslet array, and subsequently are transformed to a sub-image array which contains different perspectives according to the viewing direction. The modified version of the CPPF is applied to the sub-images. This enables us to produce the plane sub-image arrays without the magnification and superimposition processes used in the conventional methods. With the modified CPPF and the sub-image arrays, we reconstruct the reference and target plane sub-image arrays according to the reconstruction plane. 3D object recognition is performed through cross-correlations between the reference and the target plane sub-image arrays. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, some preliminary experiments on the target objects are carried out and the results are presented. Experimental results reveal that the use of plane sub-image arrays enables us to improve the correlation performance, compared to the conventional method using the computational integral imaging reconstruction algorithm.

Exploring the Potential of Modifying Visual Stimuli in Virtual Reality to Reduce Hand Tremor in Micromanipulation Tasks

  • Involuntary hand tremor has been a serious challenge in micromanipulation tasks and thus draws a significant amount of attention from related fields. To minimize the effect of the hand tremor, a variety of mechanically assistive solutions have been proposed. However, approaches increasing human awareness of their own hand tremor have not been extensively studied. In this paper, a head mount display based virtual reality (VR) system to increase human self-awareness of hand tremor is proposed. It shows a user a virtual image of a handheld device with emphasized hand tremor information. Provided with this emphasized tremor information, we hypothesize that subjects will control their hand tremor more effectively. Two methods of emphasizing hand tremor information are demonstrated: (1) direct amplification of tremor and (2) magnification of virtual object, in comparison to the controlled condition without emphasized tremor information. A human-subject study with twelve trials was conducted, with four healthy participants who performed a task of holding a handheld gripper device in a specific direction. The results showed that the proposed methods achieved a reduced level of hand tremor compared with the control condition.

Cytologic Features of Endodermal Sinus Tumor of Ovary in the Ascitic Fluid - Report of a Case - (난소에서 발생한 내배엽동 종양의 복수의 세포학적 소견 - 1례 보고 -)

  • The cytologic findings of endodermal sinus tumor of the ovary are reported. The cytologic preperations were obtained from ascitic specimens. The findings on Papanicolaou-stained smears included a clean background and poorly preserved atypical cells loosely arranged in irregular or papillary groups. At high magnification, the cells had ill-defined and microvacuolated cytoplasms, with an increased nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio and prominent nucleoli. Hyaline globules characteristic of the alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-synthesizing cells of endodermal sinus tumor were observed within the cells with periodic-acid-Schiff(PAS) stain. The presence of PAS-positive hyaline globules can be regarded, therefore, as a diagnostic clue to endodermal sinus tumor in an appropriate clinical setting and in the presence of AFP production. The cytologic findings in a cell block is important, in addition to smears, to obtain more diagnostic clues. A preliminary cytomorphologic diagnosis of this highly malignant tumor is valuable as a guide in planning further immunocytochemical and serologic studies.

Consideration of Daldinia childiae as a New Record in Korea, Based on Morphological Characteristics of Korea Collections (한국에서 발견된 국내 미기록종 Daldinia childiae의 미세형태적 고찰)

  • The genus Daldinia is a member of the Xylariaceae that has brown to dark brown and phaseoliform single cell ascospores with a conspicuous full germ slit. The isolate of D. childiae collected from Mt. Deuk-yu in Korea were compared with similar taxa, D. eschscholzii and D. concentrica.. Ascospores were $11{\sim}13{\mu}m{\times}5.5{\sim}6{\mu}m$ in size, light brown to brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with dull round ends. Ascospore showed very faint ornamentation at ${\times}7.0k$ magnification. It is one of the main morphological characteristic Korean collection of D. childiae under SEM level and a main reason of reinterpretation of D. concentrica in Korea. Using KOH-extractable pigment color of stroma, D. concentrica that also has supported the SEM level investigation. Daldinia concentrica, having those characteristic recorded in Korea, should be renamed as D. childiae. However, the isolate will be the first record as D. childiae, having precise morphological description in Korea.
