  • In this paper, a two-dimensional (2-D) channel code for magnetic patterned media is proposed. Patterned media records an information bit on a magnetized dot. Since the space between adjacent tracks is narrow in order to increase the storage density, inter-track interference (ITI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI) can be problems. The amplitude of a bit signal can be corrupted by the 2-D ISI. The signal of the bit surrounded by the same value can be especially destructive, i.e. when its value is the same as the values of the eight surrounding bits. The proposed modulation coding scheme improves the decoding performance of patterned media by preventing this worst case and provides a better code rate than conventional channel codes.

  • The effect of the magnetic flux interference between the driving and detecting unit of the gyroscope by the electromagnetic force has been investigated quantitatively. The key parameter dictating the output characteristics of the gyroscope which is driven and detected using electromagnetic force is the mutual interference between the driving and detecting unit. Using the specially designed apparatus for positioning of the detecting unit, it is found that the vertical positioning of the detecting unit plays a significant role in minimizing the interference effect as evidenced by our experimental results.

  • Magnetic field sensors made from superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) are the most sensitive low-frequency sensors available, enabling measurements of extremely weak magnetic fields from the brain. Neuromagnetic measurements allow superior spatial resolution, compared with the present electric measurements, and superior temporal resolution, compared with the fMRl and PET, providing useful informations for the functional diagnoses of the brain. We developed a 4-channel SQUID system for neuromagnetic applications. The main features of the system are its simple readout electronics and compact pickup coil structure. A magnetically shielded room has been constructed for the reduction of environmental magnetic noises. The developed SQUID system has noise level lower than the magnetic noise from the brain. Magnetic field signals of the spontaneous r-rhythm activity and auditory evoked magnetic fields have been measured.

  • We evaluated certain issues related to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) coupled with the use of active 2.5 GHz radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for patient identification using low field (0.3 T) MRI and computed tomography (CT) scans. We also investigated the performance of the RFID reader located outside the MRI room by considering several factors. A total of ten active RFID tags were exposed to several MRI sequences and X-rays of CT scan. We found that only card type active RFID tags are suitable for patient identification purpose in MRI environment and both wristbands as well as card tags were suitable for the same in CT environment. Severe artifacts were found in the captured MRI and CT images when the area of the imaging was in proximity to the tags. No external factors affected the performance of active RFID reader stationed outside the MRI scan room.

  • We fabricated superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) based on Nb Josephson junctions, and characterized the key parameters of the SQUIDs. The SQUIDs are double relaxation oscillation SQUIDs (DROSs) having larger flux-to-voltage transfer coefficient than the standard DC-SQUIDs. SQUID sensors were fabricated by using Nb junction technology consisted of a DC magnetron sputtering and a conventional photolithography process. In multichannel SQUID systems for whole-head magnetoencephalography measurement with a helmet-type SQUID array, we need about 336 SQUID sensors for each system. In this paper, we fabricated a few hundred SQUID sensors, measured the critical current, flux modulation voltage and decided if each tested SQUID can be used for the multichannel systems. As the criterion for the acceptance of the sensors, we chose the critical current and amplitude of the modulation voltage to be 8 ㎂ and 80 ㎶, respectively. The average critical current of the SQUIDs was 10.58 ㎂. The typical flux noise of the SQUIDs with input coil shorted was 2 μΦ0/√Hz at white region.

  • In the high-speed EMU, the modularized traction converter produces the significant harmonic currents caused from the switching behavior of a power converter. These harmonic currents bring the interference among the traction equipment. One way to minimize the interference is to design the secondary windings of a power transformer decoupled magnetically as possible. This paper presents a magnetic field analysis on a winding disposition to clarify an impact on magnetic decoupling between secondary windings, under a limited height of a train. Two winding dispositions for a single-phase shell-type transformer are constructed and simulated by a three-dimensional finite elements method (FEM) model. Two different winding dispositions are constructed and simulated by three-dimensional FEM model using Maxwell3D.

  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is an important issue in modern daily life due to the increasing prevalence of electronic devices and their compact design. This study estimated EMI-shielding effect (EMI-SE) of small ($8-14{\times}17mm$) Hanji (Korean traditional paper) doped with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and compared to Hanji without CNT using $^2H$ (92.1 MHz) and $^{23}Na$ (158.7 MHz) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) peak area data obtained from 1 M NaCl in $D_2O$ samples in capillary tubes that were wrapped in the Hanji samples. The simpler method of using the variation of reflected power and tuning frequency by inserting the sample into an NMR coil was also tested at 242.9, 158.7, and 92.1 MHz. Overall, EMI shielding was relatively more effective at the higher frequencies. Our results validated that NMR methods to be useful to evaluate EMI-SE, particularly for small, flexible shielding materials, and demonstrated that EMI shielding by absorption is dominant in Hanji mixed with CNT.

  • In this paper, we manufactured the wireless video stream system after we scanned EMI(Electro Magnetic Interference)noise in the system. and then, we analysed the noise frequency in the interface, circuit and PCB(Printed Circuit Board). we suggested EMI noise reduction technique. The applied reduction method is low pass filtering, the internal layer placement for high speed video data line and optimization of the system ground condition. the manufactured system improved about 2 ~ 20[dB] margin for EMI limit 40[dBuV/m] at 30 ~ 230[MHz] and 47[dBuV/m] at 230 ~ 1000[MHz].

  • The shingled magnetic recording method has interference between adjacent tracks. Furthermore, when read-head reads the data along the track, the head can be skewed by some physical effects. In this paper, in order to solve this problem, we propose a two-dimensional equalizer that uses two heads. If the head is skewed, it is possible to complement the performance by positioning the two heads at the center of the current track.
