Design of New Type Universal Motor Using Soft Magnetic Composites

  • This paper presents a new structure for the universal motor using soft magnetic composite (SMC). The stator for this new type of motor is made by combination of the SMC pole and the silicon steel yoke. The shape of the 3D SMC pole is designed to minimize ohmic loss and amount of stator coil. To design the pole shape, the 3D analysis in the design procedure is replaced with an equivalent 2D analysis. Finally, the optimal shape is analyzed by 3D FEM and the performance is discussed.

  • In this study, we made a comparative study of backpropagation neural network and probabilistic neural network and bayesian classifier and perceptron as shape recognition algorithm of welding flaws. For this purpose, variables are applied the same to four algorithms. Here, feature variable is composed of time domain signal itself and frequency domain signal itself, Through this process, we confirmed advantages/disadvantages of four algorithms and identified application methods of few algorithms.

  • In order to obtain the basic data for the effective seed production of Ureshis unicinctus sediment preference, burrow shape and burrowing depth in sediment were investigated in the laboratory. The highest valus in both sediment preference and burrowing rate of U. unicinctus were shown at fine and (0.11~0.50mm in the mean diameter). U. unicinctus made various types of burrows, such as J, L, S and U shapes. Generally only one individual inhabits in burrow with head-up.

  • The purpose of the study is to identify the physical characteristics of early adolescent boys, to classify body shapes by physical characteristic. The subjects were 549 boys in the capital area. Their body shapes were identified and classified based on 47 anthropometric measurements, 43 photographic measurements and 10 indexed measurements. For data analysis were performed descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA and Duncan test using SPSS Ver. 10. According to the result of extracting factors indicating the characteristics of body shape, horizontal size, vertical length, lateral posture, the lateral shape of the abdomen and the hip, the shape of the back protrusion, the front shape of the trunk and was the shape of the shoulders. According to the result of classifying body shapes, four types of shape - T(Tall) type, P(Petite) type, L(Large) type and R(Regular) type were identified. The results of this study are expected to contribute to planning sizes according to the type of body shape and improving the fitness of ready-made clothes in apparel and school uniform manufacturers.

  • Shape Contexts Recognition(SCR) is a technology recognizing shapes such as figures and objects, greatly supporting technologies such as character recognition, motion recognition, facial recognition, and situational recognition. However, generally SCR makes histograms for all contours and maps the extracted contours one to one to compare Shape A and B, which leads to slow progress speed. Thus, this paper has made simple yet more effective algorithm with optimized contour, finding the outlines according to shape figures and using the improved Douglas-Peucker algorithm and Harris corner detector. With this improved method, progress speed is recognized as faster.

  • The buckling behavior of cylindrical shape-memory alloy and aluminum tube is investigated at room temperature using a split Hopkinson pressure bar and an Instron hydraulic machine with a specially designed recording system. The shape-memory alloy at superelastic property regime buckles gradually in quasi-static loading, and fully recovers upon unloading. However, the buckling of aluminum tube is sudden and catastrophic, and shows permanent deformation. This gradual buckling of shape-memory alloy is associated with the forward and reverse transformation of stress-induced martensite and seems to have a profound effect on the unstable deformation of tube structures made from shape-memory alloy.

  • The optimum design of a structure requires to determine economical member size and shape of a structure which satisfies the design conditions and functions. In this study, it is attempted to minimize a dead weight of the bogie frame. Therefore, shape optimization is performed for a bolster rib at first and then size optimization for the thickness of top and bottom plate. For the efficient reduction of a weight of a bogie frame, various ellipses centered at a centroid of a bolster rib are made and tried. For the shape optimization, a major axis and an eccentricity of an ellipse are chosen as design variables. From the numerical results of shape and size optimization of a bogie frame, it is known that the weight can be reduced up to 12.476 Y4717.21 kg) with displacement and stress constraints.

  • The aims of this research were to suppose the basic data to the producer for more useful manufactures production. 700 pieces of questionnaire were made and 552 pieces of questionnaire were used for this study. The results of this research are as follows ; Many consumers feel uncomfortable to using the unfinished clothing and by the point we could expect the shape retention finish has great possibilities. Just half percent of the people knew about the shape retention finish. So the producer have to do more advertisement for the shape retention finishing and functions. Generally the consumers are satisfied with the shape retention finished clothing.

The Comparison of Foot Shape Classification Methods (발 형태 분류 방법 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare two analytical methods classifying foot shape. The methods compared were cluster analysis method and foot index analysis method. This study defined the women's foot shape by these methods. 39 foot measurements which were automatically collected using the three dimensional foot scanner were analyzed. 203 Korean women in age 20s were participated in the anthropometric survey. Their foot shapes were classified into 5 foot types by cluster analysis: short & slim shape, flat shape, short & slender shape with slightly distorted toe, long and big shape, and short & wide shape. The foot measurements were also analyzed by the ratio of foot width and length. Five foot types that were classified by cluster analysis and three foot types that were classified by the foot index were compared. The comparison shows that cluster analysis precisely defined foot shapes. It was suggested that made-to-measure shoes making industry may adopt the foot shape analysis method utilizing cluster analysis.

  • Symbolism found in a certain object inherits characteristics from the culture that contains the objects. The purpose of this study was investigate the formative beauty of Korean trousers twisted the pieces together based on the way of Korean thinks and the Topology. The shape is formed by cutting from the fabric. From the perspective of semiology, the fabric and the pattern shape correspond to ground and figure. Ground and figure are identical with the principle of the whole and the part, which is the same in Korea, China, and the West. But In Korea, the 3-dimensional garment is made by adding a twist. This is very important and defines the difference in the way of thinking and topology. Korean trousers consist of three parts : Hury, Marupok, and Sapok. The small Sapok can be made by removing the Marupok and large Sapok (figure) from the fabric (ground) when making Korean trousers. A Mobius strip is made when the large Sapok is adjoined with the small Sapok by reversing the small Sapok, making a 180$^{\circ}$twist and then stitching together. The theory of Mobius strip can be applied in Joining Bajiburi. thus when the trousers are completed the Klein's bottle is seen because of the 2 existing Mobius strop.
