This study is to find the effect of the molecular weight distribution of components on the freeness and physical properties of paper by observing the change of properties according the modification of fibers by using production technology and process technology together to develop additives which can effectively control according to the purpose of paper-making process and by combining low molecular weight cellulase (below MW 20,000; CMC activity 400 unit) with different enzyme's molecular weight and activity and high molecular weight cellulase(MW 20,000∼80,000;CMC activity 90,000 unit) and then process them in Sw-BKP(Softwood Bleached Kraft Pulp) and Hw-BKP(Hardwood Bleached Kraft Pulp) and Cotton Linter Pulp and OCC(Old Corrugated Container) with different properties of pore of surface of fibers respectively, since it is judged that making the appropriate composition ratio of components is necessary in consideration of the properties of fibers and paper-making process.
This study was designed to detect and evaluate an antigenicity of low molecular weight proteins of Fasciola hepatica in fascioliasis. Low molecular weight protein of F. hepatica was purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and Sephacryl S-100 HR gel filtration. The protein obtained was estimated to be 8 kDa on 7.5-15% gradient sodium dodecyl sulfate gel electrophoresis. Immunoblotting studies showed that the 8 kDa protein reacted with human fascioliasis sera, but not other trematodiasis sera. This result suggests that the 8 kDa protein of F. hepatica is one of diagnostic antigens in human fascioliasis without cross-reaction with other human trematodiasis.
Natural organic matter(NOM) is defined as the complex matrix of organic material and abundant in natural waters. It affects the performance of unit operations for water purification. Several kinds of analytical indicators such as DOC, specific ultraviolet absorbance(SUVA), apparent molecular weight (AMW), fractionation and high performance size exclusive chromatography(HPSEC) have been used to understand characteristics and variations of NOM. This study aims to evaluate the characteristics of NOM in the Geum River system comprising with stream flows and reservoirs. It was identified that SUVA denoting the portion of humic substance in water ranged within 1.60~3.36. Using resin adsorbents, dissolved organic carbon(DOC) was fractionated into three classes: hydrophobic bases(HOB), hydrophobic acids(HOA) and hydrophilic substances(HI). HI dominates in all samples, collectively accounting for more than 62% of the DOC. HOA was the second dominated fraction and it varied considerably but accounted for about 30% of the DOC. The distribution of high molecular weight(HMW) measured by HPSEC being used to determine the molecular weight distribution of aquatic humic substances was 40.1% and 38.7% in reservoir and stream flow, respectively. The distribution of low molecular weight(LMW) in stream flow was 13.2% higher than that in reservoir. And apparent molecular weight less than 1KDa, which include the molecular weight of hydrophilic organic matter, occupied with 69.2% and 68.2% in stream flow and reservoir, respectively. While the molecular weight of 1 to 100 KDa including humic substances ranged with 18.6% and 21.6% in stream flow and reservoir, respectively. Seasonal variation of refractory dissolved organic carbon was similar to that of SUVA.

The mangrove algal flora of Guam and the Federated States of Micronesia has been poorly explored. We add to our knowledge of this region by observations of collections from these regions. This paper presents new and additional records of: Rhodophyta-Acrochaetium globosum, Colaconema sp., Caulacanthus indicus, Bostrychia moritziana / B. radicans, B. radicosa, B. simpliciuscula, B. kelanensis and B. tenella, Murrayella periclados, and Caloglossa ogasawaraensis; Chlorophyta-Boodleopsis carolinensis; and Phaeophyceae-Dictyota adnata, Dictyotopsis propagulifera, and Canistrocarpus cervicornis. Most specimens were cultured to investigate their reproductive biology and many specimens were further identified using molecular data. Low molecular weight carbohydrates (dulcitol, sorbitol, and digeneaside) were identified in samples of B. radicosa and B. simpliciuscula. We also present data on manganese-rich deposits found on B. simpliciuscula and B. tenella in culture, possibly formed by epiphytic bacteria.
As the model compounds, citral and n-octanol which possess similar characteristics and structures of low molecular weight insect pheromones and $({\pm})-5-hydroxy-4-methyl-heptan-3-one$ which shows the aggregation pheromones activity of the rice weevil and the maize weevil were microencapsulated with low molecular weight polyethylene(LMPE) and urea-formaldehyde resin as wall materials. The core materials were microencapsulated as small particles in LMPE and urea-formaldehyde resin polymers and the microencapsulated polymers were white powders. And the polymer made from urea-formaldehyde resin was better than that from LMPE as wall material. The slow releasing effect and the releasing patten of the microencapsulated core materials were examined by solvent extraction method and headspace sampling method. Citral and n-octanol and $({\pm})-5-hydroxy-4-methyl-heptan-3-one$ were release more than 40 days and 15 days, respectively. The releasing pattern of urea-formaldehyde resin microcapsules showed rather smooth decrease than that of LMPE and was maintained at steady level longer.
Possibility of using low-molecular weight alginate as a wall material for encapsulation of fish oil was investigated. Encapsulation yield increased with increasing calcium chloride concentration up to 5% and was maintained thereafter, whereas slightly increased with increasing sodium alginate concentration up to 1.25% and decreased dramatically thereafter; emulsifier concentration had no effect on encapsulation yield. Loading efficiency increased with increasing content of core material. Encapsulation yields of low- and high-molecular weight alginates were similar, indicating low-molecular weight alginate can be used as wall material for encapsulation of fish oil.

Although probiotics have been shown to improve health when consumed, recent studies have reported that they can cause unwanted side effects due to bacterial-human interactions. Therefore, the importance of prebiotics that can form beneficial microbiome in the gut has been emphasized. This study isolated and identified bacteria capable of producing biopoymer as a candidate prebiotic from traditional fermented foods. The isolated and identified strain was named WCYSK01 (Wissella sp. strain YSK01). The composition of the medium for culturing this strain was prepared by dissolving 3 g K2HPO4, 0.2 g MgSO4, 0.05 g CaCl2, 0.1 g NaCl in 1 L of distilled water. The LMBP(low molecular weight biopoymers) produced when fermentation was performed with sucrose and maltose as substrates were mainly consisted of DP3 (degree of polymer; isomaltotriose), DP4 (isomaltotetraose), DP5 (isomaltopentaose), and DP6 (isomaltoheptaose). The optimization of LMBP (low molecular weight of biopolymer) production was performed using the response surface methodology. The fermentation process temperature range of 18 to 32℃, the fermentation medium pH in the range of 5.1 to 7.9. The yield of LMBP production by the strain was found to be significantly affected by q fermentation temperature and pH. The optimal fermentation conditions were found at the normal point, and the production yield was more than 75% at pH 7.5 and temperature of 23℃.
Effects of molecular characteristics such as melt index and shapes of molecular weight distribution on the charge formation in LDPE have been investigated. Both homocharge and heterocharge were observed in LDPE depending on the value of melt index. It was found that the LDPE having intermediate melt indices shows heterocharge while the LDPE having small and high melt indecies shows homocharge. The shapes of molecular weight distributions were also found to affect the space charge in LDPE. These were explained by the role of short chains having low molecular weight in LDPE.

Low molecular weight endo-glucanase fraction of cellulase from Trichoderma reesei was purified using Sephadex G-100 and concanavalin A-Sepha-rose 4B affinity chromatography. Its biochemical characteristics including pH profile, temperature profile and kinetic behavior were studied. The optimum conditions for enzymatic reaction were pH 6.0 and $5^{\circ}C.$ The activation energy for CMC (carboxymethylcellulose) was 10,800 cal/mole. Its adsorption to amorhous and crystalline cellulose was observed. Adsorption to amorphous cellulose was more rapid and greater than that of crystalline cellulose. Reconstitution study was performed. Significance of low molecular weight endo-glucanase on cellulose hydrolysis will be further discussed.
Sulfated chitosan and sulfated sodium alginate were synthesized by sulfating reaction of low molecular chitosan and low molecular sodium alginate with SO$_3$-pyridine complex. When the weight ratio of SO$_3$-pyridine complex to polysaccharide was 1:5, the degrees of sulfation were the highest at 2.75 and 2.53 respectively. The anticoagulation effect was the highest when the molecular weight was 8.0${\times}$10$^3$ Da, and the anticoagulation activity was the highest at 91% of that of heparin when sulfated chitosan and sulfated sodium alginate were mixed at a weight ratio of 1:1. The anticoagulation activity was highest at 84% of that of heparin in the active plastin trombo test (aPTT) when sulfated chitosan and sulfated sodium alginate were mixed at a weight ratio of 1:1.
