  • We have used diversely the multilayer ceramic oscillator of the SMD(Surface Mounted Device) package technology that connects the crystal with the chip package. Such an oscillator occurs a stray inductance and a parasitic capacitance by the length and inner pattern. And it has been happened an amplitude attenuation and signal loss due to the reflection of power source and noise component. So we don't evaluate the precise performance of the oscillator for these factors. In this paper we have developed the Jig system to evaluate the performance of the oscillator. Through this system, we will expect an advanced performance of the oscillator and redesign an oscillator of the low jitter characteristics and low phase noise.

  • This study explored the vowel effect on acoustic perturbation measures in voice quality analysis. For this study, the perturbation parameters (%jitter, %shimmer) and noise parameter (SNR) were measured with 7 Korean vowels (/a/, /ɛ/, /i/, /o/, /u/, /ɯ/, /ʌ/) using CSpeech with 50 Korean normal young adults (24 males and 26 females). A significant vowel effect was found only in %shimmer and in particular, low-back /a/vowel was significantly different from other vowels in %shimmer. The least perturbation and noise were exhibited on high-back /ɯ/ and /o/ vowel, respectively. Based on tongue height, a significant higher %shimmer was demonstrated on low vowels than high vowels. In addition, back vowels in tongue advancement and rounded vowels in lip rounding showed significantly less perturbation and noise. The least variability of perturbation and noise within individuals was demonstrated on the vowel /i/ in three repeated measures. However, there was no significant difference among 3 token measures in single session among vowels tested except the vowel /o/. Consequently, the vowel /a/ commonly used in acoustic perturbation measures exhibited higher perturbation and noise whereas higher stability and less variability were demonstrated on the high-back vowel /u/. These results suggested that the Korean high-back vowel /u/ can be more appropriate and reliable for perturbation acoustic measures.

  • An electroglottography (EGG) was used to investigate the function of the vocal folds during their vibration. In this study, four Korean native speakers and 10 vocal polyp patients were selected. To investigate the dynamic change of EGG waveforms for the three-way distinction of Korean stops, a DSP-Sona graph model 5500, a Rino- Laryngeal stroboscope, a CSL model 4300B and a Laryngograph were used. An EGG Model 4338 was used to exam the vocal polyp of patients' voices during high, low, comfortable pitch production. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of Korean stop consonants in relation to pitch and to observe laryngeal movement during vocal fold vibration and speech production. The basic data accumulated during this research can be applied in clinical treatment. The results are as follows: on the Korean stop consonants, the aspirated stop is the highest in the GOT and PC1. On the angle of vowel contour, the angle of lenis is smaller than the angle of heavily aspirated and glottalized stops. The fundamental frequency is lowest at the lenis stop, In vocal polyp patients', the low pitch range is smaller than in normal speakers'. The pitch break and the vocal fry were observed. The jitter and OQ value are higher in vocal polyp patients than in those of normal speakers'.

  • The various services that a broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN) carries, have a wide range of delay, delay jitter and cell loss probability requirements. Design of appropriate control schemes for B-ISDN is an extremely important and challenging problem. In this paper, we proposed multiplexing algorithm with both delay and loss priorities in order to satisfy the diverse requirements. For the implementation of cell lose priority, we assumed that voice cells are generated as non-discardable(i.e., high priority) and discardable (i.e., low priotity)cells. The low priority voice cell may be discarded inside the network if congestion occurs. The cell dropping scheme is shown to reduce cell losses as well as delays for both voice and data. Such a load shedding scheme is expected to improve significantly utilization of B-ISDN.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of manipulating loudness and pitch in terms of speech intelligibility and voice of a patient with Parkinson's Disease. The subject, who was diagnosed as a patient with Parkinson's disease 11 years ago, demonstrated a severely breath voice with low intensity. The accuracy of articulation in consonants was intelligible only at the single word level, and the overall intelligibility in continuous speech was low. The results showed that the subject's articulation accuracy and speech intelligibility was significantly improved after having loudness and pitch training. Habitual Fo, Jitter, Shimmer, Fo tremor, Amp tremor were decreased after training. In addition, the value of HNR also increased after training. It was shown that the changes of these acoustic parameters were closely related to the decrease of breathiness in Parkinson's voice, and this decrease of breathiness affected speech intelligibility considerably. Based on the experimental results, it was claimed that the vocal training by manipulating the loudness and pitch could be highly effective in improving the voice quality and speech intelligibility in Parkinson's Disease.

  • This paper presents a 1.248 Gb/s - 2.918 Gb/s low-power receiver MIPI-DigRF M-PHY with a fully digital frequency detection loop. MIPI-DigRF M-PHY should be operated in a very short training time which is $0.01{\mu}s$ the for HS-G2B mode. Because of this short SYNC pattern, clock and data recovery (CDR) should have extremely fast locking time. Thus, the quarter rate CDR with a fully digital frequency detection loop is proposed to implement a fast phase tracking loop. Also, a low power CDR architecture, deserializer and voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) are proposed to meet the low power requirement of MIPI-DigRF M-PHY. This chip is fabricated using a $0.11{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and the die area is $600{\mu}m{\times}250{\mu}m$. The power consumption of the receiver is 16 mW from the supply voltage of 1.1 V. The measured lock time of the CDR is less than 20 ns. The measured rms and peak jitter are $35.24ps_{p-p}$ and $4.25ps_{rms}$ respectively for HS-G2 mode.

  • We have analyzed low current operation characteristics of a VCSEL transmitter operating at fixed Current over wide temperature range. Used 850 nm oxide VCSEL has low temperature dependence of the threshold current and $d^2I_{th}/dT^2$ is approximately $1.346\times10^{-4}mA/^{\circ}C^2$. We fixed on-current so that output power from the chip is 1 mW at $20^{\circ}C$ and investigated the turn-on, turn-off characteristics and eye-diagram of the 850 nm oxide VCSEL transmitter with varying ambient temperature and off-current. We measured rise time, fall time, extinction ratio and timing jitter by changing tile ambient temperature and off-current. With the fixed off-current of around $0.1\sim0.2mA$ lower than the lowest threshold current the transmitter successfully operated at 1.25 Gbps over a wide temperature range from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$.

  • This study have been compared and analyzed voice parameter under the condition of normal voice and auditory condition(noise and music) for 29 patients of orofacial pain and 31 normal people to investigate voice feature and vocal variation for auditory condition of orofacial pain patient. 1. Compared to normal voice, orofacial pain patient showed lower and unstable voice feature which has low F0 rate and high jitter and shimmer rate. 2. Voice of orofacial pain patient showed more relaxed and stable voice feature with low F0 and shimmer rate in the music condition than noise condition. 3. Normal people's voice has no significant difference between music and noise condition even though it has high F0 rate under the noise condition. As a result, orofacial pain patient showed difference of feature and different response for external auditory condition compared to normal voice. Providing of positive emotional environment such as music could be considered for better outcome of oral facial pain patient's functional disability.
