  • The present study has been accomplished to elucidate the effect of radiation heat transfer in the heat transfer analysis of refrigerator gasket, which has near 30% of refrigerator heat loss. The numerical heat transfer analysis has been conducted with the simplified modeling of refrigerator gasket. From the present CFD analysis, heat loss at the gasket is $25.6W/m^2$ for the case without radiation effect and that for the case with radiation effect is $55.0W/m^2$, which is 2.2 times greater heat loss. The radiation protection layers were installed in the gasket from 0 to 7 and the case with 7 layers has 33% reduction effect of heat loss compared with the case without any radiation protection layer. Additionally, it is better effect of radiation heat loss reduction that the radiation protection layers would be placed to the outer or inner side of gasket rather than placing to the center of gasket.

  • The structure of Ti:LiNbO$_3$optical waveguide with a mode size far different from that of single mode optical fiber has been optimized by tapering the waveguide ends. This work was focused on determining the optimized sets of parameters for the fabrication of low-loss Ti indiffused optical waveguides in LiNbO$_3$. Numerical and analytical modeling were applied to simulate the guiding quality and to determine the mode sizes. Based on these modeling results, new waveguide structures with tapered ends have been defined, fabricated and characterized in the respect of the coupling of fiber to Ti-indiffused LiNbO$_3$waveguide.

  • This paper presents the modeling approach that can predict transient behavior of rotary compressor. Mass and energy conservation laws are applied to the control volume, real gas state equation is used to obtain thermodynamic properties of refrigerant. The valve equation is solved to analyze discharge process also. Dynamic analysis of vane and roller is carried out to gain friction work. From the above modeling, the performance of rotary compressor with radial clearance and friction loss is investigated numerically. The performance of each refrigerant is estimated, respectively by applying R12, R134a, and R290/ R600a mixture.

  • In the braking process of rolling stocks, the equivalent braking force is applied to the all bogies. However, the load applied to the front and rear bogie are different in the actual commercial traveling. In the case, since the different slip situation is occurred in each bogie, it is essential to use the independent anti-slip control per bogie unit in order to reduce the loss of braking force. In this paper, the mathematical modeling about bogie unit braking is proposed and verified.

  • One of the most serious problems that the world is facing is the loss of biodiversity and habitats as a result of environmental degradation. There are several strategies to protect the habitats and biodiversity within a certain region such as establishing protected areas; monitoring the remaining forests and managing the landscape within limits have been employed. In this study, Predicted Habitat Distribution Model (simple spatial modeling) was developed using vegetation types, land use and land cover, DEM, slope, drainage, roads, human settlement areas and minimum habitat requirements of each species. Then, based on the checklist of presence and absence of each species, the final habitat maps for selected endangered species are generated. Integration of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) has proven a very effective tool to generate wildlife habitat maps at various levels. An effecting mapping could be performed based on satellite remote sensing and modeling biodiversity indicators in GIS.

  • This paper proposes the registration information, the participation information for classifying demand resources participate in demand response program. Modeling demand resources from them, it evaluates values of demand resources. Specially assuming that ignore the loss in power system, they take a role as generation. This paper proposes how to evaluate demand resources' values. Case study shows that demand response operators schedule efficiently demand response program by using index of such as the registration information the participation information of demand resource.

  • This article discusses a capacity planning method in QoS-guaranteed IP networks such as BcN (Broadband convergence Network). Since IP based networks have been developed to transport best-effort data traffic, the introduction of multi-service component in BcN requires fundamental modifications in capacity planning and network dimensioning. In this article, we present the key issues of the capacity planning in multi-service IP networks. To provide a foundation for network dimensioning procedure, we describe a systematic approach for classification and modeling of BcN traffic based on the QoS requirements of BcN services. We propose a capacity planning framework considering data traffic and real-time streaming traffic separately. The multi-service Erlang model, an extension of the conventional Erlang B loss model, is introduced to determine required link capacity for the call based real-time streaming traffic. The application of multi-service Erlang model can provide significant improvement in network planning due to sharing of network bandwidth among the different services.

  • In this paper, transient characteristics of the Punch Through Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (PT-IGBT) have been studied. On the contrary to Non-Punch Through Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(NPT-IGBT), it has a buffer layer and reduces switching power loss. It has a simple drive circuit controlled by the gate voltage of the MOSFET and low on-state resistance of the bipolar junction transistor. The transient characteristics of the PT-IGBT have been analyzed analytically. Excess minority carrier and charge distribution in active base region, the rate of anode voltage with time are expressed analytically by adding the influence of buffer layer. The experimental data is obtained from manufacturer. The theoretical predictions of the analysis have been compared with the experimental data obtained from the measurement of a device(600 V, 15 A) and show good agreement.

  • The electromagnetic engine valve actuator is a key technology to achieve variable valve timing in internal combustion engine and the steel core and clapper of the electromagnetic engine valve actuator are laminated to reduce the eddy current loss. To design and characterize the performance of the electromagnetic engine valve actuator, FE (finite element) analysis is the most effective way, but FE (finite element) 3-D modeling of real lamination needs very fine meshes resulting in countless meshes for modeling and numerous computations. In this paper, the equivalent FE 2-D model of electromagnetic engine valve actuator is introduced and FE analysis is performed using the equivalent FE 2-D model.

  • In this paper, we introduce a positioner based on magnetic levitation to eliminate the friction which is the most severe effect to limit high resolution on the micro level. Differently from existing electromagnetic device, the proposed positioner consists of air core solenoid and permanent magnet. Although the combination produces small magnetic force, it is suitable for realizing micro motion repeatedly without the accumulation of error because there is no hysteresis caused by ferromagnetic materials, no eddy current loss, no flux saturation. First, the approximate modeling of stiffness and damping effects between the magnetic elements is made and verified experimentally. Then, we have formulated the dynamic equation of one d.o.f magnetic levitation positioner using linear perturbation method and discussed the necessity of optimization for the chief design parameters to maximize the stability performance.
