  • In refuse landfills, a considerable amount of settlement occurs due to the decomposition of refuse over several years. In this paper, several prediction methods are applied to the measured settlement data of fresh refuse sites. The effect of biological decomposition on the settlement characteristics is investigated in predicting the long-term settlement of refuse landfill sites in view of the predicted settlement curves and the amount of long-term settlement. Irrespective of the applied models, the long term settlement may not be correctly estimated if the model parameters do not contain the decomposition effects. Among the proposed several prediction methods, Gibson & Lo model and hyperbolic model seem to represent the long-term settlement characteristics, but the power creep law seems to considerably overestimate the long-term settlement.

  • Purpose: This research was conducted to identify long-term care service needs in the baby boom generation. Methods: Data were collected from September 3 to October 9, 2012 targeting 196 baby boomers residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do with the measurement of long-term care service needs having five domains. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program. Results: Demand for long term care service in those who preferred nursing homes was highest as $4.40{\pm}0.69$ in the safe environment domain. In case of those preferring home care services, demand was highest as $4.37{\pm}0.56$ in the social interaction domain. People who preferred nursing homes had higher needs in personal health care and improvement of the service quality domains. Those who preferred home care services showed diverse needs according to their characteristics. Conclusion: The baby boom generation had high needs in all the domains of long-term care services and such needs were diverse according to their characteristics. However, long-term care services had limitations that they provided standardized and uniformed services only. Therefore, health care services and improved quality services should be provided in a way of meeting the users' needs, and tailored services should be provided in consideration of the users' characteristics.

  • Shotcrete lining is likely to be deteriorated due to the ground water which the lining is exposed to. Some tunnel collapses seemed to be affected by shotcrete degradation were reported. But there isn't any assessment method of shotcret long-term degradation. So, Experimental technology for shotcrete long-term degradation modeling was developed in this study. The shotcrete long-term degradation modeling, developed in other study in Korea Institute of Construction Technology, require the time-history of volume change. Digital strain observation system was used to acquire the time-history of volume change. To verify the Strain Observation Digital System, the measurement using the system was compared to the one using a micrometer. Through this process, The experiment for shotcrete long-term degradation modeling was set up.

  • Purpose: A national long-term care system for elderly and the disabled has its unique evolution in each country. Japan, Germany and the United States may be the typical examples of respective social insurance system. This paper reviews the counterpart examples of Japan, Germany and the United States and looks at their accumulated long-term care system experiences and personal care system under workers' compensation. Methods: Literature review and website searching were conducted. Key words as 'workers' compensation insurance', 'personal care benefit' and 'long term care' were used in searching the related literatures. Results: Though the personal care benefit under current Workers'Compensation in Korea is very similar to Japan's, the long-term care system of Korea is not as well established. Germany and the United States have the provision of personal care benefit for injured workers within long term care system. Conclusions: We recommend some key issues to take into account for improving personal care benefit system in workers' compensation in Korea as follows: providing a comprehensive coverage through the linkage of long term care, introducing an assessment & evaluation system for the appropriate benefits, establishing insurer's role for quality management of personal care service, and developing a policy for family caregivers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect that completing long-term on-site training with varying grades of success had on the job satisfaction of former university students after obtaining employment. Although the grades themselves achieved during long-term on-site training did not directly affect job satisfaction, positive effects on job satisfaction were shown due to the mediating effects of job match and organizational commitment. The results of this study are as follows: First, it was found that employees who participated in long-term on-site training showed different results in belonging and attachment to their organizations according to their achievement. The higher the grades during long-term on-site training, the higher the degree of reported job match and organizational commitment, suggesting a positive correlation with job satisfaction. Therefore, long-term on-site training should not be operated as simply a program for temporary experiential learning, but instead should be optimized by companies and schools to motivate their students to achieve high grades for the purpose of their future job satisfaction.

  • Purpose. This study was to suggest an appropriate understanding and attitude toward the long-term senior recuperation insurance through examining the perception of the aforementioned system from the viewpoint of the elderly population. Methods. This study was conducted on 150 participants who were aged 65 years and over in a nursing hospital, a senior citizen center and participating social welfare programs in Gyeong Gi area. Researchers visited a nursing hospital, a senior citizen center, and a senior welfare center to organize times before conducting questionnaires after interviewing individual elderly participants. Results. The results are as follows: The probability of the long-term senior recuperation insurance implementation is higher amongst the younger participants, those with average health status and where the system is recognized by neighbors, relatives and/or family. The largest group of participants show only a moderate interest in the long-term senior recuperation insurance. The attitude toward using the long-term senior recuperation insurance system in the future is undetermined due to lack of awareness. Conclusions. Although the long-term senior recuperation insurance system is for all citizens, it is important to provide the correct information to the target audience, the elderly, and raise the awareness of the system so that they have access to the necessary services.

  • In the past annual recycling obligation rate calculation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, it was difficult to operate the system efficiently, because responsible producers passively participated in the scheme only bent on achieving annual obligation without long-term plan. Thus, a new scheme of long-term recycling obligation rate began to be established every five year from 2008 in order to give the basis for the notice of annual specific operation standard and recycling obligation, thereby helping responsible producers to make a preparation with a plan and giving expectation of active operation of the scheme. However, in the operation of long-term recycling target program, while the development of prediction models and the evaluation for existing items has been conducted in various ways, applications for a new target items and the evaluation are quite insufficient. Therefore, in this study, problems in implementing long-term recycling goal of new target items will be examined, and more objective and rational long-term recycling rate calculation and the operation standard will be proposed. Thus, the long-term recycling target will play a role as a pacemaker to steadily improve the recycling performance of target items, and responsible producers will be expected to increase the achievement with the realistic capacity.
