  • The purpose of this study was to know that the 'Thinking Science' activities affects the enhancement of critical thinking skill by the logical thinking skill about pupils in the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grade of elementary school in Korea. The 19 activities of 'Thinking Science' as the teaching materials was implemented to 40 pupils in elementary school over 13 weeks. Results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in logical thinking skills(p<.05). Those teaching materials contributed to improve 3 logical sub-elements significantly(p<.05) as the proportional logical element, the probabilistic logical element, and combinational logical element. But, there was no significant improvement in conservational logical element, control of variable element, and correlational element(p<.05).

  • The purpose of this study was to discover differences between mathematically gifted students (MGS) and non-gifted students (NGS) when making probability judgments. For this purpose, the following research questions were selected: 1. How do MGS differ from NGS when making probability judgments(answer correctness, answer confidence)? 2. When tackling probability problems, what effect do differences in probability judgment factors have? To solve these research questions, this study employed a survey and interview type investigation. A probability test program was developed to investigate the first research question, and the second research question was addressed by interviews regarding the Program. Analysis of collected data revealed the following results. First, both MGS and NGS justified their answers using six probability judgment factors: mathematical knowledge, use of logical reasoning, experience, phenomenon of chance, intuition, and problem understanding ability. Second, MGS produced more correct answers than NGS, and MGS also had higher confidence that answers were right. Third, in case of MGS, mathematical knowledge and logical reasoning usage were the main factors of probability judgment, but the main factors for NGS were use of logical reasoning, phenomenon of chance and intuition. From findings the following conclusions were obtained. First, MGS employ different factors from NGS when making probability judgments. This suggests that MGS may be more intellectual than NGS, because MGS could easily adopt probability subject matter, something not learnt until later in school, into their mathematical schemata. Second, probability learning could be taught earlier than the current elementary curriculum requires. Lastly, NGS need reassurance from educators that they can understand and accumulate mathematical reasoning.

  • Juryeonggu is a Cuboctahedral die that had used in ancient Korea. This Cuboctahedral is consisted of different two penal servitudes of 14 facepieces, but the probability distribution can appear equally so it can be usable as a die. In this paper, achieved research study about probability of a Cuboctahedral die that have quadrilateral and triangle preferentially to search Juryeonggu's probability calculation method. First, confirmed probability distribution through Multibody-dynamics analysis and verified probability distribution through several experiments. Finally, with this simulation data, achieved theoretical analysis about Cuboctahedral die occurrence probability by using the residual momentum energy.

  • The purpose of the study is to meta-analyze research results on Korean students' logical thinking ability. The results of meta-analysis on the research studies between the year 1980 and the year 2000 show that about 40-50% of Korean middle school students have conservation reasoning, proportional reasoning and combinatorial reasoning abilities, and that about 25-30% of them have control of variables and probability reasoning abilities. In addition, only 8% of the Korean middle-school students have correlational ability. When comparing their logical thinking ability results with those of Japanese and American middle-school students, The ratio (32.6%) of Korean middle-school students who have formal thought ability is a little higher than that of American students (30.6%), but much lower than that of Japanese students (50.1%).

  • This paper aims to introduce a construction method for the 'Wooden Die for Drinking Game' and to find some geometrical structures and mathematics educational viewpoints. As the results, we get two methods which are eventually same with Figure 5 and Figure 6-3. We proved the ground that classical probability of this Die's each side showing up is one out of fourteen and introduced few other empirical probabilities with Table 1 to Table 3. Also, some Chinese characters were corrected and re-interpreted. In fact, 象人打鼻 changed to 衆人打鼻, and 醜物 is interpreted as 'ugly animal' such as frog, toad, earthworm or pine caterpillar.

  • A probabilistic approach considering uncertainties was employed to investigate the effects on the material characteristics and strength of nuclear bio-logical shield concrete walls, when exposed to long-term radiation during the entire service life. Time-dependent compressive and tensile strengths were estimated by conducting the neutron fluence analysis. For the contaminated concrete, individual compressive and tensile failure probabilities can be possibly evaluated by not only establishing limit-state function withthe predefined critical values but also performing Monte Carlo Simulation. Nuclear power plant types similar to the Kori Unit 1, which was shut off permanently in 2017 after the 40-year operation, were herein selected for an illustrative purpose. Consequently, the probability-based performance assessment and prediction of contaminated concrete walls were well demonstrated.

  • The study attempts to show that the theory of critical environmental variation quantum(CEVQ) has a sound logical basis and empirical support. It is well known that the theory of critical environmental variation quantum is derived from the theory of biological probability distibution function and the central limit theorem(CLT) in statistics. The study uses the case study of fisheries damages compensation caused br the public marine construction undertaken in the area do Anjeong Bay in the city of Tongyeong for empirical test of theory of CEVQ. The results shows that the CEVQ theory perfoms a good job in measuring quantatively fjsheries damages caused by outflow of cold water due to the operation of LNG company since 2002. Therefore the study proves that the CEVQ theory is a good theory having internal consistency and empirical applicability.

  • It has become important to evaluate the qualitive reliability and condition assessment of existing structural systems in order to establish a rational program for repair and maintenance. Since most of if existing structural system may suffer from defect corrosion and damage, it is necessary to account for their effects in fuzzy reliability analysis, In this paper, an attempt is made to develope a reliability analysis for damaged structural systems using failure possibility theory. Damage state is specified in terms of linguistic valiables using natural language information and numerical information, which are defined by fuzzy sets. Using a subjective condition index of failure possibility and information of the damage state is introduced into the calculation of failure probability. The subjective condition index of quantitative and qualitative analysis method is newly proposed based on the fuzzy set operations, namely logical product, drastic product, logical sum and drastic sum
