Second, the image of the important lobby space was grasped in order of convenient image(M = 3.98) bright image(M = 3.87), and cozy image(M = 3.80). Third, the results on investigating semantic structure of the lobby image, emotional factor, styling factor, spatial factor, and peculiar factor are composed of important factors that decides image of lobby space. Fourth, as the result of image analysis for lobby space, the degree of satisfaction for the local cultural institution was entirely low against the importance. In particular, the image for convenience, individuality, locality and dignity was not sufficient in all the three places. • A lobby of a hotel is an important space by which the image of a hotel as a whole, the brand-identity, is determined. This study has researched and analyzed the special property in presentation of a landmark in a hotel lobby for its spatial factors, which affects visual cognition, and it is to provide information that can set out the foundation of space design for the appropriate landmark in a certain hotel lobby corresponding to the unique characteristics of a hotel. The regional range of this study includes the lobby spaces of 10 five-star hotels in Shanghai China and Seoul Korea. The types of spatial factors as landmarks and manifestation of those, which affect the visual cognition of the users are the range of context in this study. For this study, field-study and survey were both used in research. The results that have been concluded through this study are as follow. First, manifestational quality of a landmark in a hotel lobby is represented in its size, figure and contrast of 'shape', in its visibility and territory of 'space' and in its symbolic value and historical property of 'meaning', and each of those factors are related to the others. Secondly, the types of spatial factors in a landmark are displayed as being focused on the openness of the space or with large-scaled spatial factors. Light and lumination intensify the manifestation of various spatial factors in a landmark. Thirdly, each representational characteristic of spatial factors in a landmark, which are closely linked to each other should be controlled precisely in order to bring out functional and symbolic feature of a hotel lobby.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the change of pressure differential and smoke propagation characteristics in the elevator lobby with the resident's evacuation scenarios using fire modelling technique. The results showed absolute pressures in the fire room and elevator lobby can significantly increase to cause fire door to the stairway unclosed once it is open. This is due to constant pressure differentials, the increasing reference pressure of fire lobby and pressure leak from elevator lobby to fire lobby. Smoke exhaust mechanism was needed to prevent the continuous pressure rise in the living room. Over 200 Pa was expected upon closing the door during pressurization, which provide difficulties in opening the door for next refugee. Opening both fire door and entrance door may induce smoke flow from fire room to elevator lobby and stairway.

  • The purpose of the present study is to suggest some directions intehdesign fo the hotel's lobby-lounge for public functions. In this study, some theoretical backgrounds reviewed from some literature were applied, and some results of the analysis of spatial features and utilized forms of public function for each sector respectively. with a review of some case studies were applied to this study as well, and thereby based on such application, it was attempted to experimentarily design the hotel's most desirable lobby-lounge for public functions. Specially in such design, expansion of the scale of the hotel's lobby-lounge, division of the line of a flow , the open front, approachability to the front desk, graudal arrangement of seats , formation of a walkway, and were service facilities were considered. In conclusion , since the hotel's lobby-lunge for public functions is a space which can accomodate various functions different from any other public space, thereby having a unique spatial system, it should be designed in consideration of the characteristics of function for each sector respectively.

  • The elevator is needed healthy and comfortable indoor air quality (IAQ) for using many people, but we found nothing about IAQ studies of an elevator. In general, air in the elevator car is sucked from the elevator's hoistway straight into the car using a fan. The air sucked into the hoistway may be filled with dust, mold and bacteria. This study was performed to measure of characteristics of indoor air quality (PM10, falling bacteria, $CO_2$, Rn and HCHO) in elevator's hoistway, CAR and lobby of 8 sites (4 apartments and 4 commercial buildings) in Gyeongnam from May, 2010 to January, 2011. With regards to the differences of pollutant distribution among hoistway, CAR, and lobby, the concentration of Rn and HCHO were the highest in hoistway followed by CAR and lobby, and PM10, falling bacteria and $CO_2$ were the highest in CAR followed by hoistway and lobby. Mean concentrations of PM10 were 104.9 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in CAR, 92.3 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in hoistway and 68.2 ${\mu}g/m^3$ in lobby, respectively.

  • Many kinds of problems by stack effect occur in the high-rise buildings that have the simple plan on the first floor designed only by an external wall and an E/V shaft wall. Therefore, some buildings in the foreign countries has made the additional inside walls between lobby and E/V hall as a countermeasure on stack effect. An additional wall in the lobby is very useful countermeasure on stack problems because lobby is a main airflow path in the building. Decreasing effect on stack problems by an additional wall of lobby is reported in this study. An ordinary office building that has a simple lobby plan is simulated and measured in this study. The results show that characteristics on stack effect are changed by methods of applying additional walls and that alternations of countermeasures which building conditions like the kinds of problems and the problem's velocity etc. are considered are very important.
