  • An adaptive modulation scheme is presented for multiuser orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems. The aim of the scheme is to minimize the total transmit power with a constraint on the transmission rate for users, assuming knowledge of the instantaneous channel gains for all users using a combined bit-loading and subcarrier allocation algorithm. The subcarrier allocation algorithm identifies the appropriate assignment of subcarriers to the users, while the bit-loading algorithm determines the number of bits given to each subcarrier. The proposed bit-loading algorithm is derived from the geometric progression of the additional transmission power required by the subcarriers and the arithmetic-geometric means inequality. This algorithm has a simple procedure and low computational complexity. A heuristic approach is also used for the subcarrier allocation algorithm, providing a trade-off between complexity and performance. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms provide comparable performance with existing algorithms with low computational cost.

  • In this paper, we propose a new power loading algorithm for orthogonalized spatial multiplexing(OSM) systems over flat-fading multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. Compared to SVD-based transmission scheme, the OSM scheme exhibits a good system performance with lower complexity and feedback overhead. To further improve the performance in OSM systems with power loading, we introduce a geometric approach on the Euclidean distance between the constellation points in the effective channel. Using this approach, we show that the optimal power loading parameters in terms of the minimum distance can be obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm provides a 5dB gain at a bit error rate (BER) of $10^{-4}$ over that of no power loading case with both QPSK and 16-QAM. Consequently, our power loading algorithm allows us to significantly improve the system performance with one additional feedback value.

  • This paper presents DC voltage recovery time improvement method in DC link of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) with offshore wind farm. The wind farm should be satisfied Low Voltage Ride Through(LVRT) control strategy when grid faults occur. The LVRT control strategy indicates actions which have to be executed according to the voltage dip ratio and the fault duration. However, The LVRT control strategy makes between wind farm and power system through DC Link voltage when grid fault occurs. The de-loading scheme is one of the method to control the DC voltage. But de-loading scheme need to long DC voltage recovery time. Thus, this paper proposes an improved de-loading scheme and we analysis DC voltage and active power reference through a simulation.

  • Several voltage instability/collapse problems that have occurred in the electric utility industry worldwide have gained the attention of engineers and researchers of electric power systems. This paper proposes an effective calculation scheme of the extreme loading point and nose curves(P-V curves) using modified Newton-Raphson(N-R) load flow method and the Continuation Method. This method provides detail and visual information of the power system voltage profile and operating margin ro operators and planners. In this paper, a modified load flow claculation method for ill-conditioned power systems is introduced for the purpose of seeking more precise load flow solutions and nose curves, and the Continuation Method is also used as a part of the solution algorithm for the calculation of extreme loading point and nose curves. The conventional polar coordinate based N-R load flow program is modified to avoid numerical difficulties caused by the singularity of the Jacobian matrix occuring in the vicinity of extreme loading point of heavily loaded systems. Application results of the proposed method to Klos-Kerner 11-bus system and modified IEE-30-bus system are presented to assure the usefulness of the approach.

  • The backward tracing scheme(BWT) of the finite element method has been extended lot the design of sheet blank in three-dimensional deformation. Originally the scheme was developed for preform design in bulk forming, and applied to several forming processes successfully. Its key concept is to trace backward from the final desirable configuration to an intermediate preform or initial blocker. A program for initial blank design in sheet forming which contains the capabilities of forward loading simulation by the finite element method and backward tracing simulation, has been developed and proved the effectiveness by applying to a square cup stamping process. In the blank design of square cup stamping, the backward tracing program can produce an optimum blank configuration which forms a sound net-shape cup product without machining after forming. For the confirmation of the analytic result derived from the backward tracing simulations as well as forward loading simulations, a series of experiment were carried out. The experiments include the first trial sheet forming process with a rectangular blank, an improved process with a modified blank preform and the final process with an optimum blank resulted from the backward tracing scheme. The experiments show that the backward tracing scheme has been implemented successfully in blank design of sheet metal forming.

  • The systematic method to construct equivalent static load from a given dynamic load is proposed in the present study. Previously reported works to construct equivalent static load were based on ad hoc methods. Due to improper selection of loading position, they may results in unreliable structural design. The present study proposes the employment of primary degrees of freedom for imposing the equivalent static loads. The degrees of freedom are selected by two-level condensation scheme with reliability and efficiency. In several numerical examples, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed scheme is verified by comparison displacement for equivalent static loading and dynamic loading at the critical time.

  • Multiple robotics systems with several sub-chains have a characteristic that grasp a common object with internal loading not to loose the grip. The investigation for the internal loading of a triple manipulator has been few as compared to a dual manipulator. In this paper, type of the internal loading for a triple manipulator system is investigated through analysis of the null space of the system. Several types of the internal loading are shown for general planar and spatial type triple robots, which rigidly grasp the common object. The general scheme is applied to analysis of the internal loading for the three-fingered and three-legged robots having a point contact with the grasped object.

  • When multiple robotics systems with several sub-chains grasp a common object, the inherent force redundancy provides a chance of utilizing internal loading. Analysis of grasping space based internal loading is proposed in this work since this method facilitates understanding the physical meaning of internal loadings in some applications, as compared to usual operational space based approach. Investigation of the internal loading for a triple manipulator has been few as ,compared to a dual manipulator. In this paper, types of the internal loading for dual and triple manipulator systems are investigated by using the reduced row echelon method to analyze the null space of those systems. No internal loading condition is derived and several load distribution schemes are compared through simulation. Furthermore, it is shown that the proposed scheme based on grasping space is applicable to analysis of special cases such as three-fingered and three-legged robots having a point contact with the grasped object or ground.

  • In Ad-hoc networks, centralized power control is not suitable due to the absence of base stations, which perform the power control operation in the network to optimize the system performance. Therefore, each node should perform power control algorithm distributedly instead of the centralized one. The conventional distributed power control algorithm does not consider the adaptive bit loading operation to change the MCS (modulation and coding scheme) according to the received SINR (signal to interference and noise ratio), which limits the system throughput. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed bit loading and power control algorithm, which considers the adaptive bit loading operation to increase total system throughput and decrease outage probability. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than the conventional algorithm.

  • Object of this paper are numerical and experimental evaluation of Korean Standard Train Loading(L-loading scheme) with respect to UIC's and real train loading, quantitative formulation of the real train types in South Korea. These objects are require to changing environment of train operation, for example, high density traffic and gradual train speed increase. For the reasonable repair, reinforcement and rehabilitation of existing railway infrastructures, statistical analysis of the loading effect during the long term experiment in conventional lines have to conduct. Statistical quantitative formulation of the loading case need to consistency numerical evaluation of the railway safety. Hereafter, those results will be core technical data for the economy enhancement of international line construction. Further, these results are using to make track maintenance criterions for transcontinental, speed up railway and revision of standard train leading diagram.
