  • E-Catalogs which describe products or services are one of the most important data for the electronic commerce. E-Catalogs are created, updated, and removed in order to keep up-to-date information in e-Catalog database. However, when the number of catalogs increases, information integrity is violated by the several reasons like catalog duplication and abnormal classification. Catalog search, duplication checking, and automatic classification are important functions to utilize e-Catalogs and keep the integrity of e-Catalog database. To implement these functions, probabilistic models that use statistics of index words extracted from e-Catalogs had been suggested and the feasibility of the methods had been shown in several papers. However, even though these functions are used together in the e-Catalog management system, there has not been enough consideration about how to share common data used for each function and how to effectively manage statistics of index words. In this paper, we suggest a method to implement these three functions by using simple SQL supported by relational database management system. In addition, we use materialized views to reduce the load for implementing an application that manages statistics of index words. This brings the efficiency of managing statistics of index words by putting database management systems optimize statistics updating. We showed that our method is feasible to implement three functions and effective to manage statistics of index words with empirical evaluation.

  • In this paper, we suggest the dynamic-response-free SMPS using a new high-resolution DPWM generator based on switched-capacitor delay technique. In the proposed system, duty ratio of DPWM is controlled by voltage slope of an internal capacitor using switched-capacitor delay technique. In the proposed circuit, it is possible to track output voltage by controlling current of the internal capacitor of the DPWM generator through comparison between the feedback voltage and the reference voltage. Therefore the proposed circuit is not restricted by the dynamic-response characteristic which is a problem in the existing SMPS using the closed-loop control method. In addition, it has great advantage that ringing phenomenon due to overshoot/undershoot does not appear on output voltage. The proposed circuit can operate at switching frequencies of 1MHz~10MHz using internal operating frequency of 100 MHz. The maximum current of the core circuit is 2.7 mA and the total current of the entire circuit including output buffer is 15 mA at the switching frequency of 10 MHz. The proposed circuit has DPWM duty ratio resolution of 0.125 %. It can accommodate load current up to 1 A. The maximum ripple of output voltage is 8 mV. To verify operation of the proposed circuit, we carried out simulation with Dongbu Hitek BCD $0.35{\mu}m$ technology parameter.

  • The combustion characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical stabilizer with varying fuel injection angle were studied. This study was performed by measuring the flame stability limits, lengths and temperatures of recirculation zones of flames, turbulence intensity in the wake of stabilizer, and concentration distribution of combustion gas, and by taking photographs of flames. The flame stability limits are dependent on fuel injection angle and main air velocity. The length and temperature of recirculation zone are dependent on fuel injection angle. As the length of the recirculation zone is decreased, the flame shows more stable behavior. The temperature of recirculation zone has a maximum value at the condition of theoretical mixture. The flame stability is enhanced when the temperature in the recirculation zone decreases. The turbulence intensity in the wake of stabilizer is independent of the fuel injection angle, but it is affected by stabilizer itself and main air flow condition. If the stabilization characteristics of flame is good, the concentration of $C_3H_8$ is high, but the concentration of $CO_2$ is low at the boundary of recirculation zone. The combustion characteristics of diffusion flame can be controlled by changing the fuel injection angles. The appropriate fuel injection angle should be selected to get high combustion efficiency, high load power, low environmental pollution, and clean combustion condition of fuel.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an efficient process in the design and construction of a 1:5 scale 10-story R.C. apartment building model for an earthquake simulation test. The reduction ratio of the specimen was determined by the size ($5m{\times}5m$) and pay load (600kN) of the available shaking table and the availability of model reinforcements. For efficiency and quality control of the reinforcement work, prefabrication was used. Construction was conducted in two steps, the wall in one step, and another step for the slab, because it was impossible to remove the formwork of a wall if the walls and slabs in a story were constructed in one step. The slip form construction method was used repetitively for walls. The formwork of a wall was made with veneer and acryl plate on each side, so it was possible to check the quality of the concrete placing. To construct this model, it took roughly six months with five full-time research assistants, for a total of 602 man days of labor in construction.

  • To increase the structural integrity of concrete box culvert good compaction by the dynamic compaction roller with bi9 capacity is as effective as good backfill materials. It is needed for effective compaction that a compaction roller closes to concrete structure with high frequency. However structural distress of the culvert could be occur due to the excessive earth pressure by great dynamic compaction load. To investigate the characteristics of Induced stress by compaction, a box culvert was constructed with changing cushion materials and compaction methods. Two types of cushion material such as tire rubber chip and EPS(Expanded Polystyrene) were used as cushion panels and they are set on the culverts before backfill construction. Laboratory test result of cushion material says that the value of dynamic elastic modulus of rubber is lesser than that of EPS. On the other hand, material damping of rubber material is greater than that of EPS. In most case, dynamic compaction rollers with 10.5 ton weights were used and vibration frequency was applied 30Hz for the great compaction energy. This paper presents the main results on the characteristics of dynamic earth pressures during compaction. The amounts of induced dynamic pressures$(\Delta\sigma\;h)$ by compaction are affected with construction condition such as compaction frequency, depth of pressure cell, distance between roller and the wall of culvert and roller direction. Based on the measured values dynamic lateral pressure on the culverts, it could be said that orthogonal direction of roller to the length of culvert is more effective to compaction efficiency than parallel direction.

  • A long-span (more than 8m) plastic greenhouse is currently being used in farms due to its magnified benefits, such as the convenience of the farming equipment used, and the land usage efficiency. In this study, the reinforcing effects of the use of a pretension tie were shown. In a previous study, tests for a 6.5m single-span-type greenhouse announced by Rural Development Administration were carried out. The tests of symmetric and eccentrics now loading by the sun and wind were conducted for the 10.2m span with a ${\phi}48.1{\times}2.1$ section in this study, after which the load-deflection relationship was compared for the cases of reinforcement with a tie and without a tie. The results of the symmetric snow loading test showed that the strength increased by 68~93% in the case of the specimen with a tied arch. The failure mode of the specimen without a tie tended to be that with a sway failure mechanism, and that of the reinforcement specimens with a tie tended to be that with an arch buckling mechanism. The results of the eccentric snow loading test showed that the strength of the specimen with a tie increased by 10~20% compared to that of the specimen without a tie. For the failure mode of the latter, a combined failure mechanism was adapted, although the failure mode of the tied specimens tended to be that with an arch buckling mechanism.

  • The underground utilities installed under the ground is an important civil engineering structure, such as water supply and sewerage pipes, underground power lines, various communication lines, and city gas pipes. Such underground utilities can be exposed to risk due to external factors such as concentrated rainfall and vehicle load, and it is important to select and construct an appropriate backfill material. Currently, a method mainly used is to fill the soil around the underground utilities and compact it. But it is difficult to compact the lower part of the buried pipe and the compaction efficiency decreases, reducing the stability of the underground utilities and causing various damages. In addition, there are disadvantages such as a decrease in ground strength due to disturbance of the ground, a complicated construction process, and construction costs increase because the construction period becomes longer, and civil complaints due to traffic restrictions. One way to solve this problem is to use a liquid filler. The liquid filler has advantages such as self-leveling ability, self-compaction, fluidity, artificial strength control, and low strength that can be re-excavated for maintenance. In this study, uniaxial compression strength test and fluidity test were performed to characterize the mixed soil using marine clay, stabilizer, and in-situ soil as backfill material. A freezing-thawing test was performed to understand the strength characteristics of the liquid filler by freezing, and in order to examine the effect of the filling materials on the corrosion of the underground pipe, an electrical resistivity test and a pH test were performed.

  • In construction jobs, a combination of various kinds of machinery is used to perform earthworks at a large-scale site. Individual equipments essentially cooperate with each other on task such as excavation, load, transfer and compaction. While other area have studied cooperation system, related study in domestic construction is in poor condition. In this study, construction equipment fleet management system is developed for solving this problem and find way to improving efficiency in earthworks site. The entire concept of the fleet management system, including its components and process, has been systematically outlined in this paper. An operational methodology has also been suggested, where a number of machines, such as the excavators, trucks and compactors, are chosen and further grouped into a cluster. A case study verify fleet management system's effectiveness on performing task package by comparing existing work method with methodology in this study. Fleet management system in this study is expected to curtail fuel consumption by the reduction of working time and moving distance. Furthermore, it can be anticipated to declining carbon emission effect.

  • Four young swamp buffalo cows of similar age ranging in body weight (W) between 280 to 380 kg and trained for doing physical exercise were used in two consecutive experiments, each using a latin square design, to determine energy expenditure for draught. The experiments consisted of field trials using 4 levels of work load, i.e. no work as control and loads amounting 450 to 500 Newton (N) continuous traction for respectively 1, 2 and 3 h daily for 14 consecutive days for experiment 1, and no work, traction loads equaling 5, 10 and 15% of W for 3 h daily for 14 days for experiment 2. Heart rate during rest and exercise was monitored using PE-3000 HR monitor. Cows were fed only king grass (Penisetum purpuroides) ad libitum and were subjected to balance trials. Body composition was estimated in vivo by the body density method and daily energy expenditure (EE) was calculated from ME minus RE. RE was calculated from the changes in body-protein and -fat measured before and immediately after the 14 d experimental period assuming an energy equivalent of 39.32 MJ/kg fat and 20.07 MJ/kg protein. $E_{exercise}$ ($EE_{work}\;-\;EE_{resting}$), which was the energy spent for doing the traction during 1, 2 and 3 h was 7.13, 15.45 and 19.90 MJ, respectively. $EE_{work}$ for the 1 h treatment group was 39.75 MJ/d equivalent to 1.30 times $EE_{resting}$. The values for the 2 and 3 h treatment groups were 1.75 and 1.86 times resting energy requirement, respectively. Absolute efficiency of work in all exercise trials of experiment 2 was around 27.28%. The increases of daily $E_{exercise}$ values were correlated to elevation of heart rate (HR) according to the equation $E_{exercise}=(0.270HR^{0.363}\;-\;1)$ MJ, while draught force related to heart rate according to the equation DF (N)=6.66 HR - 361.62. Blood glucose and triglyceride levels were gradually elevated with time during the course of exercise. Mean values of blood glucose were 91.7, 115.0 and 116.2 mg/dl for cows after 1, 2 and 3 h pulling loads at 15% W respectively as compared to 88.2 mg/dl prior to work. In the same order and treatment, mean blood triglyceride concentrations were 13.5, 13.3 and 14.8 mg/dl, and 11.5 mg/dl for control. For blood lactate, the values were 1.68, 1.63 and 1.66 mM, and 0.80 mM for control. Glucose was used as the major source of energy during the initial phase of exercise, but for prolonged work, fat will replace carbohydrate as the main substrate. Accumulation of lactate persisted for some time at the end of the exercise trials.

  • On conventional railway lines, trains with different speeds are operated. Therefore, trains moving on curved sections with cants must accept various ranges of balanced cants, cant deficiency, and cant excess, which is essential for the comfort and safety of train operation. In this study, the correlation between the curve radius, cant, and train speed on a track was analyzed to check the cant range that satisfies the criteria of train types, operation speed, cant deficiency, and cant excess. Also, the range of setting the cant by the curve radius and balanced cant were calculated by a regression analysis of train speed according to the frequency of operation in the case of mixed trains. The results could make it possible to improve the speed of the operation route, reduce the loss of ride quality, reduce the risk of derailing caused by cant deficiency, and minimize the load deflection by excess cant. This will ensure the safety of trains running on curves and improve the efficiency of track maintenance.
