  • The numerical analysis on PHC piles socketed into weathered rocks through sandy soil layers was conducted to propose the table solution or the chart solution to obtain the mobilization capacity. The mobilization capacity was determined at the settlement of 5% pile diameter and applied a safety factor of 3.0. In order to utilize the excellent compressive strength of the PHC pile effectively, it is recommended that the allowable bearing capacity of ground would be designed to be more than the long-term allowable compressive pile load. A procedure for determining an allowable pile capacity for PHC piles socketed into weathered rocks through sandy soil layers is given by the sum of the allowable skin friction of the sandy soil layer and the weathered rock layer and the allowable end bearing capacity of the weathered rock layer. The design efficiency of the PHC pile is about 85% at the reasonable design stage in the verification of the newly proposed method. Thus, long-term allowable compressive load (Pall) level of PHC piles can be utilized in the optimal design stage.

  • Recently Data Centric Storage (DCS) schemes are variously studied for several applications (e.g. natural environment investigation, military application systems and environmental changes monitoring). In DCS scheme, data is stored at nodes within the network by name. There are several drawbacks in the existing schemes. The first is the inefficiency of the range query processing on not considered the locality of store point. the second is the non-homogeneity of store load of each sensors in case of the sensor distribution density is non-uniformed. In this paper, we propose a novel data centric storage scheme with the sensor distribution density which satisfied with the locality of data store location. This scheme divides whole sensor network area using grid and distributes the density bit map witch consist of the sensor density information of each cell. sensors use the density bit map for storing and searching the data. We evaluate our scheme with existing schemes. As a result, we show improved load balancing and more efficient range query processing than existing schemes in environment which sensors are distributed non-uniform.

  • The straight-cone steel cooling tower is a novel type of structure, which has a distinct aerodynamic distribution on the internal surface of the tower cylinder compared with conventional hyperbolic concrete cooling towers. Especially in the extreme weather conditions of strong wind and heavy rain, heavy rain also has a direct impact on aerodynamic force on the internal surface and changes the turbulence effect of pulsating wind, but existing studies mainly focus on the impact effect brought by wind-driven rain to structure surface. In addition, for the indirect air cooled cooling tower, different additional ventilation rate of shutters produces a considerable interference to air movement inside the tower and also to the action mechanism of loads. To solve the problem, a straight-cone steel cooling towerstanding 189 m high and currently being constructed is taken as the research object in this study. The algorithm for two-way coupling between wind and rain is adopted. Simulation of wind field and raindrops is performed with continuous phase and discrete phase models, respectively, under the general principles of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Firstly, the rule of influence of 9 combinations of wind sped and rainfall intensity on flow field mechanism, the volume of wind-driven rain, additional action force of raindrops and equivalent internal pressure coefficient of the tower cylinder is analyzed. On this basis, the internal pressures of the cooling tower under the most unfavorable working condition are compared between four ventilation rates of shutters (0%, 15%, 30% and 100%). The results show that the 3D effect of equivalent internal pressure coefficient is the most significant when considering two-way coupling between wind and rain. Additional load imposed by raindrops on the internal surface of the tower accounts for an extremely small proportion of total wind load, the maximum being only 0.245%. This occurs under the combination of 20 m/s wind velocity and 200 mm/h rainfall intensity. Ventilation rate of shutters not only changes the air movement inside the tower, but also affects the accumulated amount and distribution of raindrops on the internal surface.

  • 원가 측면에서 유리한 저항점용접(Resistance Spot Welding)이 차체 용접에 80%이상으로 가장 많이 적용되고 있다. 첨단고강도강(Advanced High Strength Steel)의 저항점용접성 및 용접부 특성에 미치는 공정 변수의 영향에 대한 연구결과는 많으나, 합금원소의 영향에 대해서는 전무하다. 특히, Si는 DP(Dual Phase)강에 첨가 시 균일한 마르텐사이트의 분포를 촉진하는 원소로 저항 점용접성 및 용접부 특성에 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상되며, 이에 대한 연구는 보고된바 없다. 본 연구에서는 냉연 DP강의 저항 점용접시 중요한 인자 중 하나인 너깃경과 전단인장강도에 미치는 Si함유량의 영향을 검토하였다. 사용된 강재 및 용접기는 1.2mm 두께의 Si함유량(0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5wt%)이 다른 인장강도 780~1000MPa급 냉연 DP강과 단상 AC용접기를 사용하였다. 용접조건은 ISO 18278-2규격에 따라 가압력 4kA, 초기가압시간 40cycle, 유지시간 17cycle로 고정하고, 용접전류만 변화하여 용접을 실시하였다. 너깃경은 용접부 단면을 컷팅 후 폴리싱 하여, 광학현미경과 Image Pro plus를 이용하여 측정했으며, 인장시편규격은 JIS Z 3137를 이용하였다. Si함유량이 증가에 따라 스패터 발생 전류는 감소했고, 너깃경은 직선적으로 증가했다. Si함유량 증가에 따른 너깃경 증가 이유는 저항(R) 측정결과, Si함유량 증가에 따라 모재의 저항이 높아져, 따라서 입열량($Q=I^2Rt$)이 많아지기 때문으로 판단되었다. 인정전단강도는 Si함유량 증가에 따라 직선적으로 증가했다. 이러한 이유는 Si함유량 증가에 따라 너깃경이 증가되기 때문으로 판단되었고, 너깃경과 인장전단강도 사이에 직선적 관계(PL(kN)=$3.2N_{dia.}$-0.81, $R^2$=0.93)를 가지고 있었다. 파단양상은 Si함유량에 상관없이 5.4kA이하에서는 계면파단이 일어났고, 6.0kA이상에서는 풀 아웃 파단이 일어났다. 계면파단주원인은 용접부 가장자리에 지름이 약 $5{\mu}m$이하의 예리한 노치가 존재하여 노치응력집중과 HAZ계면 근처에 미접합부가 존재하기 때문으로 판단되었다. 6.0kA이상에서는 예리한 노치가 없었고, HAZ부가 완전히 접합되어 있기 때문에 풀 아웃 파단이 일어난 것으로 판단되었다. 따라서, Si함유량 증가에 따라 적정용접전류 구간은 감소했고, 너깃경은 직선적으로 증가했다. 또한, Si함유량 증가에 따라 인장전간강도는 증가 했으며, 너깃경과 인장전단강도 사이에 직선적 관계를 가지고 있었다. 파단 양상은 Si함유량에 상관없이 5.2kA이하에서는 계면파단이, 6.0kA이상에서는 풀 아웃 파단이 일어났다.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an embedded antenna structure with NFC and WPC composite functions. By selecting stable materials, the optimal component ratio of the polymer sheet was determined. The low cost embedded winding method compared to the existing FPCB was devised. During the winding process, characterization and process technology were developed. We also fabricated a ferrite mold to process the WPC grooves and developed the process technology for optimizing the WPC antenna. The following conclusions were obtained. (1) Optimum composition ratio was derived as Fe 87.5%, Si 7%, Al 5.5% and selected as the final material. (2) Optimal sheet conditions were derived from the experimental evaluation method and the experimental design method through the combination test of the optimized sheet and the conventional mass production FPCB. (3) According to coil diameter and inner diameter, Q value fluctuation, resistance value and efficiency fluctuation are obtained. Therefore, the most suitable coil condition is selected and Rx matching is performed. (4) The EMV load modulation test and the cognitive distance test of the polymer sheet and the ferrite sheet showed that the recognition distance of the polymer sheet at 1k and 4K was 32-33 mm and the recognition distance of the ferrite sheet at the same condition was 30-31 mm.

An Experimental Study on Absorber with Spiral Tube in Absorption Heat Pump (흡수열펌프에서 나선형 관이 설치된 흡수기의 실험적 연구)

  • The efficient performance of absorber is of great importance for the absorption heat pump cycle. The experimental study of absorber with spiral tube of tangential feeding of liquid phase has been investigated using methanol-glycerine as a working fluid. The effect of change in absorber operating conditions was analyzed to improve the performance. The increase in solution flow rate and cooling flow rate positively affects the absorber performance while an increse in the solution concentration negatively affects the absorber performance. The results showed that mass absorption flux was in the range of $0.2{\sim}0.6kgm^{-2}sec^{-1}$, the solution heat transfer coefficient between 1.6 and $4.2kwm^{-2}K^{-1}$, the absorber thermal load from 0.9 to 1.5kw and the mass transfer coefficient from 0.9 to 1.7 m/sec.

  • Distributed generation systems (DGSs) have been getting more and more attention in terms of renewable energy use and new generation technologies in the past decades. The self-excited induction generator (SEIG) occupies an important role in the area of energy conversion due to its low cost, robustness and simple control. Unlike synchronous generators, the SEIG has to absorb capacitive reactive power from the outer device aiming to stabilize the terminal voltage at load changes. This paper presents a novel static VAR compensator (SVC) called a magnetic energy recovery switch (MERS) to serve as a voltage controller in SEIG powered DGSs. In addition, many small scale SEIGs, instead of a single large one, are applied and devoted to promote the generation efficiency. To begin with, an expandable mathematic model based on a d-q equivalent circuit is created for parallel SEIGs. The control method of the MERS is further improved with the objective of broadening its operating range and restraining current harmonics by parameter optimization. A hybrid control strategy is developed by taking both of the stand-alone and grid-connected modes into consideration. Then simulation and experiments are carried out in the case of single and double SEIG(s) generation. Finally, the measurement results verify that the proposed DGS with SVC-MERS achieves a better stability and higher feasibility. The major advantages of the mentioned variable reactive power supplier, when compared to the STATCOM, include the adoption of a small DC capacitor, line frequency switching, simple control and less loss.

The Thermal Stability and Elevated Temperature Mechanical Properties of Spray-Deposited $SiC_P$/Al-11.7Fe-1.3V-1.7Si Composite

  • The thermal stability and elevated temperature mechanical properties of $SiC_P$/Al-11.7Fe-1.3V-1.7Si (Al-11.7Fe-1.3V-1.7Si reinforced with SiC particulates) composites sheets prepared by spray deposition (SD) $\rightarrow$ hot pressing $\rightarrow$ rolling process were investigated. The experimental results showed that the composite possessed high ${\sigma}_b$ (elevated temperature tensile strength), for instance, ${\sigma}_b$ was 315.8 MPa, which was tested at $315^{\circ}C$, meanwhile the figure was 232.6 MPa tested at $400^{\circ}C$, and the elongations were 2.5% and 1.4%, respectively. Furthermore, the composite sheets exhibited excellent thermal stability: the hardness showed no significant decline after annealing at $550^{\circ}C$ for 200 h or at $600^{\circ}C$ for 10 h. The good elevated temperature mechanical properties and excellent thermal stability should mainly be attributed to the formation of spherical ${\alpha}-Al_{12}(Fe,\;V)_3Si$ dispersed phase particulates in the aluminum matrix. Furthermore, the addition of SiC particles into the alloy is another important factor, which the following properties are responsible for. The resultant Si of the reaction between Al matrix and SiC particles diffused into Al matrix can stabilize ${\alpha}-Al_{12}(Fe,\;V)_3Si$ dispersed phase; in addition, the interface (Si layer) improved the wettability of Al/$SiC_P$, hence, elevated the bonding between them. Furthermore, the fine $Al_4C_3$ phase also strengthened the matrix as a dispersion-strengthened phase. Meanwhile, load is transferred from Al matrix to SiC particles, which increased the cooling rate of the melt droplets and improved the solution strengthening and dispersion strengthening.

  • In order to improve the safety r! ship berthing and the efficiency r! berth operation in the harbour, the berthing energy acting on a ship in berthing maneuver need to be estimated properly. The berthing energy is used as one q the criteria to determine the maximum permissible load of fender as well as important factors to establish the berthing speed and the required power r! tug-beat for pilot and ship operator. In this study, some problems r! present the method of berthing energy are discussed on the basis of the hydrodynamic aspects. Then, series calculations of berthing energy are carried out considering the effect of water depth on added mass and the ship shape for container series from 1,600TEU to 12,000TEU.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the quay crane productivity in automated container terminal with perpendicular yard layout. In particular, four quay crane (single trolley/dual trolley/double trolley/supertainer) are considered to evaluate the productivity on the terminal performance. Each quay crane load or unload containers by a different process. For each quay crane, two productivities are considered and compared: mechanical productivity, net productivity. As the net productivity of quay crane is significant, in this paper, an application of simulation model to simulate automated container terminal is developed and a wide variety of computational experiments were conducted.
