  • We experienced a case of well-differentiated acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland in a 65 year-old woman, which was correctly diagnosed preoperatively by fine needle aspiration(FNA) cytology. FNA cytology smears showed clusters or sheets of monomorphic acinic cells having reticulated or finely vacuolated basophilic or acidophilic cytoplasm. The cellular population was homogeneous or slightly polymorphic, having centrally located, round nuclei with finely reticular chromatin and inconspicuous nucleoli. Herein we report this case with its histologic features and review of literatures.

  • The closed loop identification(CLID) is a very useful method for on-line applications since it can identify the plant in the closed-loop system composed of the plant and the controller. There are some literatures on CLID, but they and mainly focused on SISO(Single-Input/Single-Output) problem. In this paper, a CLID method is proposed for MIMO(Multi-Input/Multi-Output) systems. The CLID method is applied to a MIMO benchmark plant, TRMS(Twin-Rotor MIMO System). To illustrate the performance of the closed-loop system identification., unit step responses in the TRMS are represented and compared with the open-loop identification via some simulation.

  • The neurilemmoma is a relatively uncommon benign neoplasm which is known to be originated from the schwann sheath of the nerve fiber. Parapharyngeal neurilemmomas may originate from any nerve traversing this space, but the vast majority arise from the vagus nerve and sympathetic chain. The neurilemmomas arising from the extracranial portion of the hypoglossal nerve are extremely rare. To our knowledge, the case we present is the ninth one to be reported occurring in the parapharyngeal space. Recently we experienced a case of parapharyngeal neurilemmoma arising from the hypoglossal nerve and so we report our case with a brief review of literatures.

  • The first maximum point in the stability curve of liquid jet, i.e., the critical point is associated with the critical Reynolds number. This critical Reynolds number should be predicted by simple means. In this work, the critical Reynolds number in the stability curve of liquid jet are predicted using the empirical correlations and the experimental data reported in the literatures. The critical Reynolds number was found to be a function of the Ohnesorge number, nozzle lengh-to-diameter ratio, ambient Weber number and nozzle inlet type. An empirical correlation for the critical Reynolds number as a function of the Ohnesorge number and nozzle length-to-diameter ratio is newly proposed here. Although an empirical correlation proposed in this work may not be universal because of excluding the effects of ambient pressure and nozzle inlet type, it has reasonably agrees with the measured critical Reynolds number.

  • This paper proposes a deadzone estimator for robust system identification. In order to cope with the drift phenomena occurred in where system inputs are not sufficiently excited in adaptive control, we introduce a novel and flexible bound condition against a fixed constant. It is derived from a forgetting factor and a rational value of the traces of the covariance matrices between step k and k-1. The key feature of this is that it does not require a priori for the bound. Also, the calculation of it is more simple than the one of literatures. The simulation results are examined for showing the practical performance of this algorithm.

  • The present study proposes a theoretical model for predicting the matrix crack density growth of each layer in composite laminates subjected to thermo-mechanical loads. Each layer with matrix cracks is treated as an equivalent continuum of degraded elastic stiffnesses which are functions of the matrix crack density in each slyer. The energy release rate as a function of the degraded elastic stiffnesses is then calculated for each layer as functions of thermo-mechanical loads externally applied to the laminate. The matrix crack densities of each layer in general laminates are predicted as functions of the thermo-mechanical loads applied to a number of laminates. Comparisons of the present study with experimental data in the open literatures are also provided.

  • This study was conducted to examine morphological characteristics and the content of cell wall polysaccharides of Brassica campestris var. pekinensis(baechu). First of all, the variety of scientific name and naming of parts of baechu in the literatures of kimchi showed, which will unify marks. So, we propose not so much mid-rib and leaf blade of baechu leaf as white part and green part, respectively. On the other hand, the forms of vessel elements of white part in baechu consist in ring, sclariform and reticulate thickening. The proximate compositions and contents of cell wall polysaccharides of baechu has significant differences between its cultivars. The cell wall pectin from baechu exhibited four peals with molecular weights of 2,000,000, about 100,000 and less than 10,000 by gel filteration chromatography and hemicellulose did two peaks with molecular weights of 2,000,000 and 10,000.

  • Objective : To research SUCCUS PHYLLOSTACHYOS through 38 kinds texts over generation for acuacupunture experiment of SUCCUS PHYLLOSTACHYOS. Methods : I studied origin, alias, species, tastes, meridian, effect, treatment, component, medical action and contraindication of SUCCUS PHYLLOSTACHYOS through 38 kinds mecical literatures. Results : Medical actions of SUCCUS PHYLLOSTACHYOS are Resolving slippery phlegm, Reducing fever, Nourishing Yin, Expelling wind and Activating blood circulation. Therefore SUCCUS PHYLLOSTACHYOS can be applied to aphonia, wind arthralgia, Diabetes, epilepsy and convulsive seizure in children. Specially for phlegm-retention due to stroke, it must be used with fresh ginger juice.

  • Objective : To study needling sensation and the flow of the needling sensation the ancient and the present literatures were reviewed. Results : 1. The needling sensation was getting the Qi and a normal reaction of acupuncture. 2. The flow of the needling sensation was promoted the Qi and normalized the flow of the Qi 3. The needling sensation of a patient expressed soreness, distension, heaviness, numbness, tingling, flushing, fervor, chill, itching, and so forth. 4. The needling sensation of a patient expressed simple or complex syndrome. 5. The needling sensation of a doctor expressed objectively more than the needling sensation of a patient in the hand feeling of a doctor. 6. The doctor was compared good needling sensation and bad needling sensation. 7. The needling sensation and the flow of the needling sensation were processed continuously. 8. The needling sensation and the flow of the needling sensation were connected with a nervous system and expressed variously in the anatomical structure and hand acupuncture tenchnique.

  • Herniation after harvesting of deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) flap is a known but not a common complication. It occurs about 2.8 to 9 % according to the literatures and can proceed to a more severe complication such as bowel obstruction. There are several factors that exacerbate the risk: surgical factors, operator factor, and patient factors. Surgical factors include large anatomical defect and denervation of related muscles. Operator factor stands for unpunctual suture technique. Patient factors represent obesity, diabetes, pulmonary disease, smoking habits, and so on. Thus, herniation might occur regardless of meticulous suture. Herein, we would like to report two cases of herniation after DCIA flap harvesting and repaired by Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty with literature review.
