공감, 보기, 그리고 감정노동 -『프랑켄스타인』의 아담 스미스 다시 읽기 (Sympathy, Seeing, and Affective Labor: Mary Shelley's (Re-)Reading of Adam Smith in Frankenstein)

  • This paper reads Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1818) in light of the 18th-century understanding of 'sympathy' including those of Hume and Smith and also in light of what Michael Hardt in our century has called "affective labor." I argue that the imaginative capacity and "seeing" are crucial in understanding Smith's idea of 'sympathy.' By showing how the monster's ugliness precludes any human character from sympathizing with him, Mary Shelley exposes that Smith's idea of sympathy fails to maintain social harmony. Mary Shelley revises Smith's 'sympathy' and makes it more radical by suggesting that the active affective labor could bridge the epistemological distance lying between the agent concerned and the impartial spectator. I first read Smith's idea of sympathy as an imaginative capacity which is inevitably influenced by 'seeing' and visual perception. Then I analyze the scenes in which the creature in Frankenstein fails to acquire any human sympathy due to his ugliness, and show how the specular nature of 'sympathy' is disrupted when one party is visually ugly and deformed. I conclude that affective labor and active moral reflection on the part of the spectator need to be provided when the agent concerned is 'ugly' and thus challenges our habitual epistemological boundary. Shelley's re-evaluation of Smith's sympathy, thus, suggests that affective labor may not be something that women alone have to perform, but an ethical practice that concerns all human beings and that can transform the otherwise flawed human capacity for sympathy.

죠직 다시 쓰기 -아나 레티셔 바볼드의 「빨래하는 날」 (Rewriting Georgic: Anna Letitia Barbauld's "Washing-Day")

  • Anna Letitia Barbauld's poem "Washing-Day" (1797) has sparked a variety of feminist critical endeavors over the past two decades. While many feminist literary critics try to salvage the poem as a successful tongue-in-cheek riposte directed at the male dominant literary world, more rigorous Marxist feminists accuse Barbauld of being limited by her own middle-class woman's view on women's domestic labor. Legitimate as they may be, these readings fail to elucidate Barbauld's place in a larger literary and intellectual discourse during the eighteenth century. In this paper I read "Washing-Day" as a woman's georgic, a genre or mode concerned with agricultural labor, the public value of which was highly recognized in eighteenth-century England. Alluding to canonical texts by writers like Shakespeare, Milton, and Pope, Barbauld's "loaded lines" in mock-heroic form create a space in which the women's domestic labor of washing interrupts men's daily routines and disrupts their poetic assumptions. While she makes women's work visible, Barbauld also addresses its quintessential nature. Women's work is affective labor; women have to labor physically and mentally to produce the desired domestic comfort. By allowing the image of the soap "bubble" to echo with many "bubbles" in other writers' texts, from the soap bubbles the narrator used to play with as a child to the hot-air balloon "bubble" of the Montgolfier brothers, Barbauld pleasantly equates work and day-dreaming, men's toil and children's play, and finally public, scientific, and recognized labor and private, domestic, and imaginative activities.

맞벌이 부부의 가사분담이 남편과 부인의 결혼만족도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Division of Household Labor on the Marital Satisfaction of the Husbands and Wives in Dual-Earner Families)

  • This study examined the effects of the division of household labor on the marital satisfaction of husbands and wives in dual-earner families. Data were collected from 193 couples in dual-earner families; the questionnaire measurements were based on recommendations from the literature review. The questionnaire consisted of inquiries concerning gender role attitudes, marital communication efficiency, division of household labor, satisfaction in the division of household labor, and marital satisfaction. Each of these categories had an individual measurement scale that enabled measurement of its impact on marital satisfaction. The major findings of this study are as follows: The couples in dual-earner families showed egalitarian gender role attitudes and high levels of marital communication efficiency. They also reported high levels of satisfaction with their division of household labor and their marital lives. Wives in dual-earner families had more egalitarian gender role attitudes compared with their husbands, and husbands perceived themselves to be investing more time in performing household chores (that is, in the division of household labor) than was perceived by their wives. Husbands were also more satisfied with the division of household labor and marital life compared to their wives. Finally, hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that satisfaction in the division of household labor and in marital communication efficiency (as perceived by the couples) significantly predicted husbands' marital satisfaction. On the other hand, wives' age, marital communication efficiency, and the differences in the division of household labor (as perceived by the couples) significantly predicted wives' marital satisfaction.

임산(臨産) 의론(醫論)과 의방(醫方)에 대한 문헌고찰(文獻考察) - 불수산(佛手散)을 중심으로 - (A Literature Review about Labor theory and practice - Focused on Bulsusan(佛手散) -)

  • Object : From the ancient times, the importance of childbirth has been well recognized by Korean Traditional Medicine. Numeral methods have been developed to ease the labor process and keep the mother and child healthy from conception to labor. Bulsusan(佛手散) is one of the main remedies to healthy labor in KTM, both widely known and applied as well. Method : This paper examines the labor theory and practice of KTM focused on Bulsusan which is composed of Angelica gigas Nakai(當歸) and Cnidium officinale MAKINO(川芎). Result : 1. From the ancient times until the Q$\bar{i}$ng period, much attention was placed to the handling of the placenta, as it was conceived as bearing much relation to the health of the mother and her fate, and thus included in the labor process. 2. There was a recognition of the 'birth pulse[離經脈]', an intense change in the pulse that presents itself prior to somatic signs of labor. 3. There were numerous prescriptions that were administered beforehand to ease the process. They are mostly constituted with medicinals that nurture Gi(氣) and stimulate its flow, which in turn makes the fetus firm and reduces the volume, easing the labor process. 4. The medical practice of labor-induction was called 'Choesaeng(催生)'. The prescriptions which functioned as such were mostly constituted with blood medicinals such as Angelica gigas Nakai and Cnidium officinale MAKINO, those which nurture both Gi(氣) and blood, and medicinals that physically lubricate the labor pathway such as honey, oil and Talcum(滑石). Conclusion : Bulsusan can be used in most problems concerning pregnancy and labor, and cases of emergency blood loss due to injury. The term 'bulsu(佛手)' infers to the medical ability of the great doctor who takes care of major blood-loss situations resulting from discharge of dead fetus, cesarean delivery, etc. The prescription name takes after this meaning, as it deals with similar conditions in its effect.

Is there an association between labor induction and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder among children?

  • Background: There is evidence of destructive effects of oxytocin use during labor on neurodevelopment. Purpose: This meta-analysis pooled all observational studies to determine the association between labor induction and the risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among children. Methods: All observational studies (case-control and cohort) were reviewed until September 2020 after searches of the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, the gray literature, and conference proceedings. The pooled odds ratios (ORs), relative ratios (RRs), and 95% confidence intervals (CI (swere calculated as random effect estimates of association among studies. Results: All observational studies were reviewed, including 4 cohort studies including 2,885,743 participants and 3 case-control studies including 51,135 participants (10,961 with ADHD and 40,174 in control groups) with a sample size of 2,936,878 participants. The pooled estimates of OR and RR did not indicate a significant association between labor induction and ADHD among children (OR, 1.13; 95% CI, 0.90-1.35) and (RR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.96-1.24). Conclusions: The findings showed that labor induction is not associated with an increased risk of ADHD among children. However, more studies are needed to investigate the relationship between labor induction and ADHD.

  • 이 연구는 로컬리티 아카이브의 한 유형으로 참여형 노동 아카이브 개발 모형을 원칙적인 측면에서 제안하기 위해 진행되었다. 이를 위해, 우선 문헌 연구와 전문가 면담을 진행하면서 노동 아카이브 구축에 있어 참여 기능의 필요성과 그 가능성을 검토하였으며, 특히 산업 노동 아카이브를 중심으로 참여 대상과 참여 유형 등을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 국내외 노동 아카이브 운영 사례를 통해 각각의 참여 방식을 분석하였다. 이러한 분석에 근거하여, 지역 산업과 연관된 참여형 노동 아카이브를 개발하기 위한 원칙과 절차와 함께, 절차의 각 단계별 참여 방식을 제안하였다.

호텔종사자의 감성노동이 서비스몰입 및 고객지향성에 미치는 영향 -상사의 감성지능의 조절효과- (Effect of Emotional Labor on Service Commitment and Customer Orientation among Hotel Employees -moderating effect of supervisor's emotional intelligence-)

  • 본 연구에서는 감성노동자인 호텔서비스 종사자를 대상으로 감성노동이 서비스몰입과 고객지향성에 미치는 영향을 파악해 보고자 하였으며, 이들 관계에서 상사의 감성지능의 조절효과를 살펴봄으로써 호텔기업 감성노동 연구의 이론적 실무적 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 편의표본추출을 통해 318부의 설문지를 호텔 종사자를 대상으로 회수하였으며, 결측치가 있는 자료를 제외하고 297부를 활용하였다. SPSS 18.0을 통해 자료 분석을 실시하였으며 분석결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, 감성노동은 이론적 고찰을 통해 감정부조화, 감정빈도, 감정다양성, 감정강도의 하위요인으로 구분하였으며 그 중 감정부조화와 감정강도는 서비스몰입에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 종사자의 서비스몰입이 고객지향성에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 감성노동 요인중 감성 강도를 제외한 나머지 요인 모두 고객지향성에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 감정부조화는 고객지향성에 부(-)의 방향으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 감정빈도와 감정다양성은 정(+)의 방향으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 감성노동과 고객지향성의 관계에 있어 상사의 감성지능은 감정부조화와의 상호작용효과를 제외하고는 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 지속적이고 체계적인 교육훈련을 통하여 감성노동에 대한 관리가 필요하며, 감성노동을 긍정적인 방향으로 유도할 수 있도록 제도적 절차 마련이 필요하다고 사료된다.

유통업 종사자의 감정노동 영향과 사회적 지원 및 직무자율성의 조절효과 (The Effects of Emotional Labor and Moderating Effect of Social Support and Job Autonomy on Retailing services employee's)

  • This study seeks to identify effects derived from emotional labor in the distribution industry, and draw ways to systematically manage the employees by exploring effects of the emotion work on performance. For the purpose, literature reviews and empirical experiments were conducted to find out effects of emotional labor and false face acting on emotion work and organizational performance and effects of social support and job autonomy on the relationship between emotion work and organizational performance. To verify the hypothesis, we conducted a hierarchical regression analysis and structural equation model analysis using SPSS 20 and AMOS19. The result of the verification in this study is as follows: First, effects of emotional labor on burnout was found to be statistically significant, second, as for the path-coefficient for "emotional labor ${\rightarrow}$ emotion work" and "emotional labor ${\rightarrow}$ job satisfaction" was not statistically significant, while the path-coefficient for "emotional labor ${\rightarrow}$ service level" was found to be statistically significant. Third, effects of emotion work on job satisfaction was found statistically significant, fourth, emotion work on the service level was found statistically significant, fifth, effects of false face acting on emotion work was found statistically significant, sixth, effects of false face acting on burnout was statistically significant, seventh, moderating were found statistically significant and lastly, moderating effects of the relationship between emotion work from job autonomy and organization performance was not verified in job satisfaction, while emotion work, job autonomy, and interaction variable in service level were statistically significant.

항공사 승무원의 감성노동이 소진과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Emotional Labor on the Burnout and Organizational Commitment among Flight Attendants)

  • 본 연구에서는 항공사 승무원을 대상으로 감성노동이 소진과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향을 파악해보고자 하였다. 이론적 고찰을 토대로 감성노동은 표면행위와 내면행위로 구분하였으며, 소진은 정서적 고갈, 탈인격화, 자아성취감 저하로 구분하였다. 편의표본추출을 통해 163부의 설문지를 항공사 승무원을 대상으로 회수하였으며, 결측치가 있는 자료를 제외하고 153부를 구조방정식 모형을 활용하여 실증분석 하였다. 분석결과는 아래와 같다. 먼저 감성노동 중 표면행위와 내면행위는 탈인격화와 자아성취감 저하에 부(-)의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 정서적 고갈에는 아무런 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 표면행위와 내면행위를 높게 지각할수록 탈인격화와 자아성취감 저하를 감소시키고 있음을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 탈인격화와 자아성취감 저하는 조직몰입에 유의한 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 정서적 고갈은 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타나 가설 2는 부분적으로 채택되었다. 따라서 소진을 높게 지각할수록 조직몰입에 부정적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 이에 대한 효과적인 관리방안이 필요하다. 지속적이고 체계적인 교육훈련을 통하여 감성노동에 대한 관리가 필요하며, 팀별 혹은 소속 부서별로 상담 제도를 활성화하여 감성노동으로 인한 직무소진을 긍정적인 방향으로 유도할 수 있도록 제도적 절차 마련이 필요하다고 사료된다.

춘천시 청소년 노동인권 조례 현황 및 개선 연구 (A Study on the Current Status and Improvement of the Youth Labor Rights Ordinance in Chuncheon City)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the ordinances of other local governments to propose implications and improvement plans for the ordinances of Chuncheon City. To this end, cases of overseas legislation related to youth labor rights, domestic laws and major policies of the central government were reviewed. Design/methodology/approach - This study mainly utilized literature research methods. In addition, it was based on foreign laws and case analysis, domestic laws and ordinances, and preceding research and data related to government policies. Findings - Chuncheon city ordinances are superior to those of other local governments. However, the details of the establishment of the implementation plan, the actual condition survey, and the establishment of the consultation system are included in the project contents of Article 6, so it is not concrete and clear. And there were no articles related to the labor environment check. Research implications or Originality - It is proposed to make the contents of the establishment of an implementation plan, survey, and consultation system as independent provisions. It is also proposed to establish a new article related to the youth labor environment check. In addition, it is desirable to establish detailed regulations by establishing the ordinance enforcement regulations.
