The sensorless AC motor drive is a popular topic of study due to the cost and reliability of speed and position sensors. Most sensorless algorithms are based on the mathematical modeling of motors including electrical variables such as phase current and voltage. Therefore, the accuracy of such variables largely affects the performance of the sensorless AC motor drive. However, the output voltage of the SVPWM-VSI, which is widely used in sensorless AC motor drives, has considerable errors. In particular, the SVPWM-VSI is error-prone in the low speed range because the constant DC link voltage causes poor resolution in a low output voltage command and the output voltage is distorted due to dead time and voltage drop. This paper investigates a novel high-performance strategy for overcoming these problems in a sensorless ac motor drive. In this paper, a variation of the DC link voltage and a direct compensation for dead time and voltage drop are proposed. The variable DC link voltage leads to an improved resolution of the inverter output voltage, especially in the motor's low speed range. The direct compensation for dead time and voltage drop directly calculates the duration of the switching voltage vector without the modification of the reference voltage and needs no additional circuits. In addition, the proposed strategy reduces a current ripple, which deteriorates the accuracy of a monitored current and causes torque ripple and additional loss. Simulation and experimentation have been performed to verify the proposed strategy.
This paper applies carrier phase shifted pulse-width modulation (CPS-PWM) to transformerless modular multilevel converters (MMC) to improve the output spectrum. Because the MMC topology is characterized by the double-star connection of six legs consisting of cascaded modular chopper cells with floating capacitors, the balance control of the DC-link capacitor voltage is essential for safe operation. This paper presents a leg-balancing control strategy to achieve DC-link voltage balance under all operating conditions. This strategy based on circulating current decoupling control focused on DC-link balancing between the upper and lower legs in each phase pair by considering the six legs as three independent phase-pairs. Experiments are implemented on a 100-V 3-kVA downscaled prototype. The experimental results show that the proposed leg-balancing control is both effective and practical.

This paper proposes a LVRT (Low Voltage Ride Through) control strategy which should be satisfied by grid-connected wind power system when grid faults occur. The LVRT regulation indicates rules or actions which have to be executed according to the voltage dip ratio and the fault duration. Especially the wind power system has to support the grid with specified reactive current to secure the grid stability when voltage reduction ratio is over 10%. The LVRT regulation in this paper is based on the German Grid Code and full-scale variable speed wind power conversion system is considered for LVRT control strategy. The proposed LVRT control strategy satisfies not only LVRT regulation but also makes power balance between wind turbine and power system through additional DC link voltage regulation algorithms. Because it is impossible to control grid side power when the 3-phase to ground fault occurs, the DC link voltage is controlled by a generator side inverter using the DC link voltage control strategy. Through the simulation and experiment result, the proposed LVRT control strategy is evaluated and its effectiveness is verified.

In this paper, a fault detection scheme for DC-link voltage sensor and its fault tolerant control strategy for three-phase AC/DC/AC PWM converters are proposed, where the Luenberger observer is applied to estimate the DC-link voltage. The Luenberger observer is based on a converter model, which is derived from the voltage equations of a grid-side converter and the power balance on a DC link. A fault of the voltage sensor is detected by comparing the measured value of the DC-link voltage with the estimated one. When a sensor fault is detected, a fault tolerant control strategy is performed, where the estimated DC-link voltage is used for the feedback control. The estimation error from the observer is about 1.5 V, which is sufficiently accurate for feedback control. In addition, it is shown that the observer performance is robust to parameter variations of the converter. The validity of the proposed method has been verified by simulation and experimental results.
In this paper, a three phase cycloconverter type high frequency AC link inverter is discussed. The configuration consists of a high frequency full-bridge inverter and a high frequency transformer followed by a three phase cycloconverter whose switch is composed of anti-series connected MOSFETs with a common source. A simple digital control strategy based on space vector modulation (SVM) and repetitive control for the cycloconverter is proposed although its input voltage is a high frequency AC pulse. The operation principle of the proposed control strategy is analyzed and the equivalent working modes during one interval are also presented. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified through Matlab/Simulink simulations and experiments on a 1.45kW prototype.

Variable-speed drives are being continually innovated. Recently, sensorless induction motor drives have been much studied due to several advantages. Most sensorless algorithms are based on the mathematical modeling of motors, and all the information is obtained from the monitored voltages and currents. Therefore, the accuracy of such variables largely affects the performance of a sensorless induction motor drive. However, the output voltage of the SVPWM-VSI which is widely used in a sensorless induction motor drive has a considerable error, especially in a low speed range. This paper proposes a variation of the dc link voltage as a high-performance strategy for overcoming the above problem. The proposed strategy leads to an improved resolution of the output voltage of the SVPWM-VSI in a sensorless induction motor drive. Simulation and experiment have been performed for the verification of the proposed strategy.

This paper presents DC voltage recovery time improvement method in DC link of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) with offshore wind farm. The wind farm should be satisfied Low Voltage Ride Through(LVRT) control strategy when grid faults occur. The LVRT control strategy indicates actions which have to be executed according to the voltage dip ratio and the fault duration. However, The LVRT control strategy makes between wind farm and power system through DC Link voltage when grid fault occurs. The de-loading scheme is one of the method to control the DC voltage. But de-loading scheme need to long DC voltage recovery time. Thus, this paper proposes an improved de-loading scheme and we analysis DC voltage and active power reference through a simulation.
This paper develops a coordinated control strategy of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) system based on repetitive control (RC) under generalized harmonic grid voltage conditions. The proposed RC strategy in the rotor side converter (RSC) is capable of ensuring smooth DFIG electromagnetic torque that will enable the possible safe functioning of the mechanical components, such as gear box and bearing. Moreover, the proposed RC strategy in the grid side converter (GSC) aims to achieve sinusoidal overall currents of the DFIG system injected into the network to guarantee satisfactory power quality. The dc-link voltage fluctuation under the proposed control target is theoretically analyzed. Influence of limited converter capacity on the controllable area has also been studied. A laboratory test platform has been constructed, and the experimental results validate the availability of the proposed RC strategy for the DFIG system under generalized harmonic grid voltage conditions.
A phase shift algorithm based on the closed-loop control of dc-link voltage implemented on a series active voltage quality regulator (AVQR) is proposed in this paper. To avoid pumping-up the dc-link voltage, a general phase shift compensation strategy is applied. The relationships among the operation variables are discussed in detail, which is very important for guiding the design of both the main circuit and the control system. Then on the basis of an investigation of the dc-link voltage pumping-up from viewpoint of the active power flow, a novel phase shift control method based on the closed-loop of the dc-link voltage is proposed. This method can adjust the phase of the output voltage gradually and automatically according to the dc-link voltage variation without introducing a phase jump. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through simulations of a single-phase 5kVA prototype and laboratory experiments on both a single-phase 5kVA and a three-phase 15kVA prototype.

A novel simplified pulse width modulation(PWM) strategy for neutral point clamped (NPC) three-level converter is proposed in this paper. The direct output voltage modulation is applied to reduce the calculation time. Based on this strategy, several optimized control methods are proposed. The neutral point potential balancing algorithm is discussed and a fine neutral point potential balancing scheme is introduced. Moreover, the minimum pulse width compensation and switching losses reduction can be easily achieved using this modulation strategy. This strategy also gains good results even with the unequal DC link capacitor. The modulation principle is studied in detail and the validity of this simplified PWM strategy is experimentally verified in this paper. The experiment results indicated that the proposed PWM strategy has excellent performance, and the neutral point potential can be balanced well with unequal DC link captaincies.
