  • Linear feature such as lines and curves are one of important features in image processing. In this paper, new method of linear feature detection is suggested. Also, we have studied approximation technique which transforms detected linear feature into data structure for the practical. This method is based on graph theory and principle of this method is based on minimal spanning tree concept which is widely used in edge linking process. By postprocessing, Hairs and inconsistent line segments are removed. To approximate and describe traced linear feature, piecewise linear approximation is adapted. The algorithm is demonstrated through computer simulations.

  • Transform, subband, and wavelet transform decompositions are powerful linear transformation tools in image coding because of their decorrelating effects on image pixels, the concentration of energy in a few coefficients, their multirat/multiresolution framework, and their frequency splitting, which allows for efficient coding matched to the statistics of each frequency band and to the characteristics of the human visulal system. Thus, a growingbody of research has bee performed to extend these tools in various kinds of modified formations. Hence, in this paper, an overall survey to achieve a general view on these transformation tools have been attempted. Starting from basic tools such as orthogonal transforms, lapped transforms, QMF(quadrature mirror filter) subband filter banks, and wavelet transforms, their hierarchical extensions, vector extensions, and linear time-varying extensions are investugated in detail.

  • Recently, a number of algorithms have been proposed for numerical evaluation of Hankel transforms as these transforms arise naturally in many areas of science and technology. All these algorithms depend on separating the integrand $rf(r)J_{\upsilon}(pr)$ into two components; the slowly varying component rf(r) and the rapidly oscillating component $J_{\upsilon}(pr)$. Then the slowly varying component rf(r) is expanded either into a Fourier Bessel series or various wavelet series using different orthonormal bases like Haar wavelets, rationalized Haar wavelets, linear Legendre multiwavelets, Legendre wavelets and truncating the series at an optimal level; or approximating rf(r) by a quadratic over the subinterval using the Filon quadrature philosophy. The purpose of this communication is to take a different approach and replace rapidly oscillating component $J_{\upsilon}(pr)$ in the integrand by its Bernstein series approximation, thus avoiding the complexity of evaluating integrals involving Bessel functions. This leads to a very simple efficient and stable algorithm for numerical evaluation of Hankel transform.

  • Using the theory of linear piezoelectricity, we consider the problem of piezoelectric ceramic infinite strip containing a finite crack with free surface traction and surface charge under anti-plane shear. The crack is symmetrically parallel to the edges of infinite strip. Fourier transforms are used to reduce the problem to two pairs of dual integral equations, which are then expressed in terms of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical results for PZT-5H ceramic are obtained and discussed.

  • Let K be a fan-like simplicial sphere of dimension n-1 such that its associated complete fan is strongly polytopal, and let v be a vertex of K. Let K(v) be the simplicial wedge complex obtained by applying the simplicial wedge operation to K at v, and let $v_0$ and $v_1$ denote two newly created vertices of K(v). In this paper, we show that there are infinitely many strongly polytopal fans ${\Sigma}$ over such K(v)'s, different from the canonical extensions, whose projected fans ${Proj_v}_i{\Sigma}$ (i = 0, 1) are also strongly polytopal. As a consequence, it can be also shown that there are infinitely many projective toric varieties over such K(v)'s such that toric varieties over the underlying projected complexes $K_{{Proj_v}_i{\Sigma}}$ (i = 0, 1) are also projective.

  • Laplace-Fourier transform techniques are used to investigate the interaction caused by mechanical, thermal and microstress sources in a generalized thermomicrostretch elastic medium with temperature-dependent mechanical properties. The modulus of elasticity is taken as a linear function of reference temperature. The integral transforms are inverted using a numerical technique to obtain the normal stress, tangential stress, tangential couple stress, microstress and temperature distribution. Effect of temperature dependent modulus of elasticity and thermal relaxation times have been depicted graphically on the resulting quantities. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the theories of generalized thermoelasticity. Some particular cases are also deduced from the present investigation.

  • It is difficult to implement sound field effect on real time using linear convolution in time domain because linear convolution needs much multiply operations. In this paper three ways is introduced to reduce multiplication operations. Firstly, linear convolution in time domain is replaced with circular convolution in frequency domain. It means that it operates multiplication in place of convolution. Secondly, one frame will be divided into several frames. It will reduce the multiplication operation in processing that transforms time domain into frequency domain. Finally, QFT will be used in place of FFT. Three ways result much reduction in multiplication operations. The reduction of the multiplication operation makes the real time implementation possible.

  • A method using two dimension Haar functions approximation for solving the problem of a partial differential equation and estimating the parameters of a non-linear distributed parameter system (DPS) is presented. The applications of orthogonal functions, including Haar functions, and their transforms have been given much attention in system control and communication engineering field since 1970's. The Haar functions set forms a complete set of orthogonal rectangular functions similar in several respects to the Walsh functions. The algorithm adopted in this paper is that of estimating the parameters of non-linear DPS by converting and transforming a partial differential equation into a simple algebraic equation. Two dimension Haar functions approximation method is introduced newly to represent and solve a partial differential equation. The proposed method is supported by numerical examples for demonstration the fast, convenient capabilities of the method.

  • This study suggests a trajectory tracking controller composed of an input output linearization compensator and a linear controller. The input output linearization compensator is derived from the nonlinear equations of a pneumatic control system and it algebraically transforms a nonlinear system dynamics into a linear one, so that input output characteristics of the control system is linearized regardless of the variation of the operating point and linear control techniques can be applied. The results of nonlinear simulations show that the proposed controller tracks the given trajectories more accurately than a state feedback controller does.
