  • This paper proposes a new confidence measure for utterance verification with posterior probability approximation. The proposed method approximates probabilistic likelihoods by using Viterbi search characteristics and a clustered phoneme confusion matrix. Our measure consists of the weighted linear combination of acoustic and phonetic confidence scores. The proposed algorithm shows better performance even with the reduced computational complexity than those utilizing conventional confidence measures.

  • A materials acquisition planning (MAP) problem that involves the determination of how much to order of a number of different items from a number of different suppliers is considered. This particular problem is modelled as a nonlinear mixed integer programming problem. A solution procedure based upon the partition of variables is developed to handle the MAP problem. This solution procedure utilizes a modified Hooke-Jeeves Pattern Search procedure along with a linear programming simplex algorithm. An example problem is presented and the results of applying the suggested solution procedure to this problem are reported.

  • The assembly tolerance design methods have applied linear or nonlinear programming methods and used simulation method and search algorithms to optimize the tolerance allocation of each part in an assembly. However, those methods are only considered to the relationship between tolerance and manufacturing cost, which do not consider a quality loss cost for each part tolerance. In this paper, the integrated simulation model used genetic algorithm and the Monte-Carlo simulation method was developed for the allocation of the optimal tolerance considering the manufacturing cost and quality loss cost.

  • In this paper, feedback controller is designed for ball-beam system using genetic algorithms. A genetic algorithms are implemented for optimizing gain parameters of feedback controller. We can find optimal point in multi-dimensional search space by using genetic algorithms. Performance of controller is tested by simulation of ball-beam system.

  • In this study, using linear and nonlinear deformation theories and by closed-form analysis and finite difference energy methods, respectively, various buckling load factors are obtained for stiffened laminated composite panel with trapezoidal type stiffeners and various longitudinal length to radius ratios, which are made from Carbon/Epoxy USN 125 prepreg and are simply-supported on four edges under uniaxial compression, and then for them, optimal design analyses are carried out by the nonlinear search optimizer, ADS.

  • A mixted integer non-linear programming model which has the object function as minimizing building costs, and constraints with the functions for carrying capacity and service level of queueing time is developed. By using the proposed model, the most adequate on a building and the most economical elevator's specifications could be determined by sequential search method like complex method.

  • To understand the dynamics of a drifting object, an analysis based on fluid dynamics theory is presented. A simplified analysis shows a consistency with the linear formula currently used for search and rescue mission. Also an experiment using miniatured human models has been conducted to study the drift characteristics of Person-in-Water. The tests were carried out at the water channel facility and the models were tested in different positions and styles. The measured drag coefficients for human body ranged over 0.4-1.2.

  • In this paper we consider the inverse minimum flow (ImF) problem, where lower and upper bounds for the flow must be changed as little as possible so that a given feasible flow becomes a minimum flow. A linear time and space method to decide if the problem has solution is presented. Strongly and weakly polynomial algorithms for solving the ImF problem are proposed. Some particular cases are studied and a numerical example is given.

Various buckling load factors are obtained for stiffened laminated composite cylindrical panels with rectangular type longitudinal stiffeners and various longitudinal length to radius ratio, which made from Carbon/Epoxy USN150 prepreg and are simply-supported on four edges under uniaxial compression. Buckling behavior design analyses are carried out by the nonlinear search optimizer, ADS.

  • The generalized goal decomposition model proposed by Ruefli as a single period decision model is presented for the purpose of a review and extended to make a multiple period planning model. The multiple period planning model in the three level organization is formulated with, linear goal deviations by introducing the goal programming method. Dynamic formulation using the generalized goal decomposition model for each single period problem is also presented. An iterative search algorithm is presented as an appropriate solution method of the dynamic formulation of the multiple period planning model.
