  • The Fourier Spectral Analysis has been widely utilized in the analysis of linear dynamic systems. However, it may not be generaly extended to analyze nonlinear systems. In this paper, a linear underlying dynamic structure coupled with nonlinear elements is analyzed by using newly derived equations of motion after the linear dynamic structure is characterized by the Fourier spectral analysis.

  • In this paper, by rigorous calculations, we consider $L^2({\mathbb{R}})-spectrum$ of linear differential operators with periodic coefficients. These operators are usually seen in linearization of nonlinear partial differential equations about spatially periodic traveling wave solutions. Here, by using the solution operator obtained from Floquet theory, we prove rigorously that $L^2({\mathbb{R}})-spectrum$ of the linear operator is determined by the eigenvalues of Floquet matrix.

  • In this paper we are concerned with optimal control problems whose costs are quadratic and whose states are governed by linear delay differential equations and general boundary conditions. The basic new idea of this paper is to introduce a new class of linear operators in such a way that the state equation subject to a starting function can be viewed as an inhomogeneous boundary value problem in the new linear operator equation. In this way we avoid the usual semigroup theory treatment to the problem and use only linear operator theory.

  • In this study, ride sensitivity analysis of train with non-linear suspension elements is performed. Non-linear characteristics of springs and dampers for primary and secondary suspensions of a train is parameterized. Equation of motion of the train model is derived, and using the direct differentiation method, sensitivity equations are obtained. For a nominal ride quality performance index, sensitivity analysis with respect to various design parameters regarding non-linear suspension parameters is carried out.

  • The aim of this research is comparing the existing approximation models (e.g. Affine Transformation and Direct Linear Transformation) with Rational Function Model as a substitute of rigorous sensor model of linear array scanner, especially push-broom sensor. To do so, this research investigates the mathematical model of each approximation method. This is followed by the assessments of accuracy of transformation from object space to image space by using simulated data generated by collinearity equations which incorporate or depict the physical aspects of linear array sensor.

  • We construct polynomial-fitting interpolation rules to agree with a function f and its first derivative f' at equally spaced nodes on the interval of interest by introducing a linear functional with which we produce systems of linear equations. We also introduce a matrix whose determinant is not zero. Such a property makes it possible to solve the linear systems and then leads to a conclusion that the rules are uniquely determined for the nodes. An example is investigated to compare the rules with Hermite interpolating polynomials.

  • A new theory of weightless sagging planer elasto-flexible cables under point loads is developed earlier by the authors and used for predicting the nonlinear dynamic response of cable-suspended linear elastic beams. However, this theory is not valid for nonlinear elastic cracked concrete beams possessing different positive and negative flexural rigidity. In the present paper, the flexural response of simply supported cracked concrete beams suspended from cables by two hangers is presented. Following a procedure established earlier, rate-type constitutive equations and third order nonlinear differential equations of motion for the structures undergoing small elastic displacements are derived. Upon general quasi-static loading, negative nodal forces, moments and support reactions may be introduced in the cable-suspended concrete beams and linear modal frequencies may abruptly change. Subharmonic resonances are predicted under harmonic loading. Uncoupling of the nodal response is proposed as a more general criterion of crossover phenomenon. Significance of the bilinearity ratio of the concrete beam and elasto-configurational displacements of the cable for the structural response is brought out. The relevance of the proposed theory for the analysis and the design of the cable-suspended bridges is critically evaluated.

Investigation of bar parameters occurred by cross-shore sediment transport

  • Cross-shore sediment transport is very important factor in the design of coastal structures, and the beach profile is mainly affected by a number of parameters, such as wave height and period, beach slope, and the material properties of the bed. In this study cross-shore sediment movement was investigated using a physical model and various offshore bar geometric parameters were determined by the resultant erosion profile. The experiments on cross- shore sediment transport carried out in a laboratory wave channel for initial base slopes of 1/8, 1/10 and 1/15. Using the regular waves with different deep-water wave steepness generated by a pedal-type wave generator, the geometrical of sediment transport rate and considerable characteristics of beach profiles under storm conditions and bar parameters affecting on-off shore sediment transport are investigated for the beach materials with the medium diameter of $d_{50}$=0.25, 0.32, 0.45, 0.62 and 0.80 mm. Non-dimensional equations were obtained by using linear and non-linear regression methods through the experimental data and were compared with previously developed equations in the literature. The results have shown that the experimental data fitted well to the proposed equations with respect to the previously developed equations.

유도전동기용 이상 PI형 속도제어기의 구성 (The Implementation of a Discrete PI Speed Controller for an Induction Motor)

  • In this paper, non-linear state equations for a 3-phase, 220V, 0.4 KW, squirrel cage induction motor have been derived using the d-q transformation and then these equations have been linearized around an operating point by a small perturbation method. Root loci on the s-plane with repect to the changes of slip S and supply frequency f have been studied. Based on the above results, the derived linear state equations have been augmented to the 6th order, including the output velocity feedback and a discrete PI speed controller. Using the new state equations, stability regions on the Kp-Kl plane have been investigated for slip S and sampling time T. In designing a discrete PI controller, the coefficients Kp and Kl around the normal operating point (220V,1,692rpm,60Hz)have been chosen under the assumptions that each response to a perturbation input of reference speed and load torque be underdamped and dominated by a pair of complex poles. Step responses in the experimental system using an Intel SDK-86 and an optimized PWM inverter show satisfactory results that the maximum overshoots and damped frequency are well coincided with ones from the computer simulation.

Free vibration of conical shell frusta of variable thickness with fluid interaction

  • Free vibration of layered conical shell frusta of thickness filled with fluid is investigated. The shell is made up of isotropic or specially orthotropic materials. Three types of thickness variations are considered, namely linear, exponential and sinusoidal along the radial direction of the conical shell structure. The equations of motion of the conical shell frusta are formulated using Love's first approximation theory along with the fluid interaction. Velocity potential and Bernoulli's equations have been applied for the expression of the pressure of the fluid. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, inviscid and quiescent. The governing equations are modified by applying the separable form to the displacement functions and then it is obtained a system of coupled differential equations in terms of displacement functions. The displacement functions are approximated by cubic and quintics splines along with the boundary conditions to get generalized eigenvalue problem. The generalized eigenvalue problem is solved numerically for frequency parameters and then associated eigenvectors are calculated which are spline coefficients. The vibration of the shells with the effect of fluid is analyzed for finding the frequency parameters against the cone angle, length ratio, relative layer thickness, number of layers, stacking sequence, boundary conditions, linear, exponential and sinusoidal thickness variations and then results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.
